So now Bam gets the super-max extension instead of just a max extension.

Now, Adebayo waits to see if he’ll also make an All-NBA Team for the first time in his career. Those three teams made up of five players regardless of position will be announced Wednesday at 8 p.m. on TNT.

Wednesday’s All-NBA reveal is especially important to Adebayo because it will likely determine the value of his next contract.

The only remaining way that Adebayo, who is currently under contract through the 2025-26 season, can become eligible for the supermax extension is by being named to an All-NBA team (first, second or third) this season.

If Adebayo does make the All-NBA cut, he would become eligible to sign a four-year, $245 million extension this offseason.

But if Adebayo doesn’t qualify for the supermax, he will instead be eligible for a three-year contract worth $165 million that would begin with a $51.2 million salary for the 2026-27 season.

The Pat Riley and Miami Heat way has always been to retool not reboot with youth from the ground up. I think he reiterated it in the press conference.

You make it sound like Bam controls voting for analysts media. About 20 podcasters and media folks out of the 100 that vote, already stated how they'd vote. Bam wasn't mentioned even once. Not even in the conversation when they talk about 2-3 dudes that could've should've but won't. So he won't make it. And he's eligible for an extension. Players always want the security of a max extension. So he very likely signs the 3-165M extension which means he'd be locked up for next season plus four more. However, if he makes an all nba team twice during the last 3 years before extension or once before the extension (the NEXT one in 3-4 years), he will get a supermax offer.
If he makes an all nba team after signing this extension, his salary doesn't trigger an escalation or anything. He doesn't get bonuses. You have to make it the year before you sign or two of three years before you sign. If he makes it next year, his contract doesn't jump to that automatically.

I think this person is talking about luck, instead of just keeping Bam on the max Miami would have to spend even more to retain the same player. About 10 or so years ago this screwed OKC (they thought Westbrook's contract would stay at just the max) by automatically (not sure how the wording in the contract was) moving Westbrook from a max to a supermax and they decided they could only keep Ibaka and Harden at a certain number and in the end... OKC traded Harden because he didn't accept their extension at that number (the team hadn't built up enough money to handle going into the tax yet as a small market team).

I'd have to guess the wording of the contract means everything, if it just mentions the max instead of % of the cap, the supermax would be the new max for someone who is eligible for it.
