I don't understand why people are celebrating the Heat tanking when they won't benefit from it unless they get lucky with the ping pong balls.

Wont benefit....? If the Heat continue their current pace then they could end up with the 8th pick in the draft. Would you rather they make the playoffs, get the 15th pick and lose in the 1st round?

I just meant thinking tanking is gonna be a savior for the Heat when they might not be in the top 10 and any pick outside of the top 5 is a crapshoot. The Heat got lucky with Herro.

But they have nothing to lose by tanking and I've never understood how the existence of a draft lottery discourages tanking. Even if the team with the worst record isn't guaranteed the #1 pick, they still have an 85% chance of getting it. And probably a 99% chance of getting a top 3 pick.
