While someone like Jorts fits a more immediate need, and doesn't come with the baggage, I can see Riley bringing Blatche in as a late signing. The kid might be a bone-head, and have issues, but he's not much different to Walker when we got him, and Riley's gamble paid off. I can see Blatche coming in here and being the go-to guy for the bench mob (Cole/Ray-Ray/Battier/Shard/Blatche), running the PnR with Cole & being surrounded by shooters.

IMO if Blatche is serious about getting back on-court at all costs then give him a 2-year vet min that only gets guaranteed if he makes it through training camp. As Ira points out: we can take up to 20 into camp!

I would sign Birdman, because he plays at a high energy level. We all know what happens when someone gets a big block, which leads to a 10+ run by the heat/ :droop: :droop: :droop:

I'd be happy with Martin/Andersen and Fesenko. Fesenko is a big strong guy that can body up on Howard.

We already got 3 stretch big men with Bosh, Lewis, Battier, Lebron. We can get another energetic shot blocker able to catch the ball and finish with Martin/Anderson and another big post defender with Fesenko.

C : Bosh - Fesenko - Anthony - Pittman

PF : Haslem - Lewis - Andersen

SF : Lebron - Battier - Jones

SG : Wade - Allen - Miller

PG : Chalmers - Cole

It's been two weeks since the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic, which at least has given Chris Bosh time to collect his thoughts.

And now that he has collected his thoughts, where does he view the Lakers in terms of his own championship team? His candid answer caught hosts Steve Goldstein and Adam Kuperstein a bit off guard.

"The Lakers, I think, right now, I mean on paper, they probably have the best team in the West and probably the league right now," he said. "On paper. I'm saying on paper. But it's a lot, a lot, it's a long season. And the best team always isn't the one who starts out the season as the best team.

"We know we're the champs, but we have to start off from scratch. We have a lot of chemistry building to do. And we have to come out there and we have to start over. We know favorites and all that stuff really doesn't matter."

"It's all about who's standing at the top in June, after the season is over, and that's all we care about," he said. "So we have to build toward that again."

Even with the Lakers' height, Bosh said it doesn't necessarily mean the Heat abandoning the approach that had Bosh at center and LeBron James and Shane Batter at power forward during the playoffs.

"Well, we won a title doing it. It's all about chemistry," he said. "It's all about how you can work together. They're going to have strengths and weaknesses, we're going to have strengths and weaknesses, too. And over the course of a season, I believe we make great adjustments and we can do a lot of different things.

"We're one of the most versatile teams in the NBA. So, I mean, we can play small, but as long as we win that rebounding battle, that's all that's important. With that said, they're a very big team, but we're very fast, so something's got to give."

Say what you want about Bosh, but he does know how to talk to the media and give a very intelligent answer. I agree with his answer and that he believes that we gotta start over. LETS NOT FORGET 06-07 year!!

I love Bosh's candidness and aversion to the machismo persona. I'm happy he's being honest about how he feels. You can look at it as not having enough self-confidence, while I choose to see him approaching it as a pragmatist and being aware there's a ton of work to do to repeat.

Its great that this team finally has a carrot to chase. They play much better being anything less than the favorite. Its going to make next season that much more enjoyable for all of us.

I dig the fact that he's essentially saying championships aren't won on paper; which the team learned the hard way in 2010-11.

Just after posting that I read cbssports.com article about his comments, ending with this:

There's the huge issue of pressure and national attention at play here, though, and the Heat, now with monkey off their collective back thanks to their victory in the 2012 Finals over the Oklahoma City Thunder, are surely looking forward to a season in which they won't be the league's most scrutinized team. The Lakers, rarely far from the NBA's center stage, are now back firmly under every possible spotlight. As we all learned during the 2010-11 season, that can impact wins and losses, as the Heat fell apart under the pressure of the 2011 Finals.

Intentional or not, there just might be a method to Bosh's madness here. Why not pile on the expectations of their likely 2013 Finals opponent? If we've learned anything over the last two years, it's that Howard is at his absolute worst and most self-destructive when he's the center of attention. Not to mention, the Heat have thrived on an "us against the world" mentality over the last two seasons and that's not too much different from playing the "underdog" card, as ridiculous as that might seem during a title defense that will be led by the world's best player operating at his peak level.

Pretty spot on if you ask me. People might make a big deal out of Dwyane saying something pretty different, but that's expected. They have very different mental approaches to competition.

Also feels like a Pat Riley-influenced Jedi Mind Trick.

I love Bosh's attitude. It means this team isn't going to be taking the Lakers lightly or any team lightly and are going to work hard. They know they're likely not the favorites and that there's a bigger challenge this year.

Please no Birdman, we have Haslem to do exactly what he does and Haslem doesnt have a coloring book tatted on his neck. At least Haslem looks like a real Miami goon, not some crazy crack head.
