People seem to be jumping down Riley's throat for putting his priorities into making the team into a contender again. What a monster. Call it an unrealistic signing, he still got a meeting with Durant when his hometown team didn't.

Congratulations on the meeting! And a nice distraction from the facts. This had nothing to do with Durant anymore than it had to do with Deng 2 years back. The fact is that Pat Riley repeatedly and intentionally spent our cap to force Wade into taking pay cuts and/or playing on below market contracts. Pat found himself a sucker and he milked him for every single dime he could.

Durant signed elsewhere. Nothing prevented Pat from paying Wade, except for Pat not wanting to.

Everything else is bull.

The last few years Pat's attitude towards Wade was ...

1. No long term contract.
2. No high salary.

We didn't lose Wade because of Durant or Westbrook or Griffin or Whiteside or Bosh or Dragic or McBob.

Tell yourself whatever you want. Wade wanted to be top priority and Pat Riley was focused elsewhere. Did the Bulls offer 50 mil like he wanted here? Their offer was not much higher.

Oh and it's easy to mock the meeting now. Did u say the same thing back then? The hell with Wade. In the end, he got offered 2 years/40 mil. At 34, who's to say how many games he will be able to play. That was more than a generous offer. Heat lifer...yeah right.

Heard too many times that Wade wasn't interested in recruiting and that he didn't want KD to get his money that he felt he was owed.

At 34, he should know better than to think Riles was gonna focus on him first. Let's face it, as fans, we all wanted KD here. We want a contender. As much as I love Wade, the team will always come first over any player.

If Riles would have stuck with his original offer to Wade, I would have backed Wade, but for him to think 2 yrs/40 mil was not enough, than whatever.

Why people are hoping bosh can't play I don't understand.

Firstly if he can't he has a bad health problem.

secondly if he can't we're looking at a year of Derrick and babbit getting minutes on our team.

We are going through and having a handful of posters grading the offseasons on the trade board, and started this year with Miami. If anyone is interested feel free to check out the thread and give your own take here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1467870

Grades ranged from C- to a straight A.
Expected wins next season from 35 to 43.

Despite being the low end on wins next year, I personally liked how Miami handled their offseason very much, and have it ranked higher than the rest of their division (which will be posted through this week).

Then perhaps you should stick to whoever your team is. We had a **** off-season.

Hopefully, he comes back and has a strong season. Then, he may become tradeable. I just don't like his long term health.

NBADraft2003 wrote:2) That doesn't make any sense when we had Wade's bird rights until this offseason. How did Pat force him into anything? Takes two to tango. What was Wade's market value in 2014? 2015? Practically nothing but minimum to mid level exceptions to other teams in 2014. He was worth $12+ million to us that offseason and notice how is only other suitor was the Bulls too. They wasn't going to sign Wade until their other top options signed and then see if Wade wanted to hop on that for low salary. Don't blame Riley for Wade's market value when Dwyane has to actually build that himself.

I'm sorry, you think Wade's market value increased from age 32 to age 34?

As was proven this offseason, it was always a myth that there was no market for Wade. The only thing restricting his market was his unwillingness to move. If you paid attention right up until the end, most GMs simply didn't believe that he was serious about leaving.

The Bulls came up every time he became a free agent for obvious reasons. That's where he's from, and that's the only place he'd actually consider leaving here for. As you can see, there was more money available elsewhere, and he chose to go to Chicago anyway.

I'm not sure why you're bringing up Wade's market value. His market value was $50 mil/2 years, and the Heat wouldn't get anywhere near it.

3) Miami's final offer was for $21.5 million, that's all they COULD offer after no longer having Dwyane's bird rights. They definitely wasn't going to attach anymore picks, Justise, or Josh to anybody to move a contract and I wouldn't have either.

I'm amazed how that "final offer" keeps growing the more time passes. The Heat offered ~ $40 mil/2 years ($19.6 mil + $20.4 mil).

People need to quit acting like Pat Riley was blindsided by the 2016 offseason. He knew it was coming. It was on his calendar. He planned for it. He had plans to pay who he wanted to pay, and he did. He had no intentions of paying Wade. That is why there wasn't even $20 mil in cap space available to keep Wade at the same salary as last season. The money wasn't there because Pat made sure it wasn't there ... even signing Briante Weber in April.

http://heathoops.com/2016/04/miami-heat-signs-guard-briante-weber-to-three-year-deal/

In order to offer Wade $19.6 mil, he would have had to cut Weber. WTF sense did it make to offer Weber any amount of guaranteed money while trying to force Wade into a pay cut?

After paying Whiteside, there was only $18.9 mil available for Wade. Every dime above that meant letting players go. That is what Pat Riley budgeted for. That was not a mistake. That was not due to unforeseen circumstances. That is the way he wanted it. He was going to force Wade into another pay cut just like he did last season, and the season before that.

Quit making excuses for Pat Riley's behavior.

Simple exercise:

1. Wade made $20 mil last season ... after pitching a fit.
2. The Heat only had $18.9 mil budgeted to pay Wade this season ... assuming Durant didn't sign here.
3. Explain.

How is it that Pat didn't budget (at minimum) $20 mil to pay Wade this offseason?

What??? That's horrible! I bet you recruit people to your company to take your salary ALL the time. You know Pat has this fan base mind screwed when they expect a player without a contract, who the team is trying to force into another pay cut, to recruit on their behalf.

That's the funniest part to me, go recruit for us, then go find yourself another team to pay you.

If Wade approached the off season like Whiteside he would have gotten several 50mil+ offers

The name alone means you have an Allstar starter.

Who exactly are we selling?

Hassan and Wade both had a fixed amount they wanted to make, FO chose Hassan. Depressing enough to lose a franchise player, why are we still talking about this?

We started Festivus early this year. We needed the extra time for the airing of grievances. We also omitted the aluminum pole for safety reasons.

Mostly because we don't agree on what happened and why.

btw this Wade hate is not new. These same discussions were had in 2014 after Lebron left and before Wade signed. Fans were sure that Wade would demand a max contract and he was bashed for being greedy and selfish. To this day he STILL gets criticized for opting out in 2014 even though he did it to take a pay cut to help the team improve the roster.

This "debate" won't ever end until all the Wade fans are gone from here ... one way or another.
