Speaking of, I really think Ball is an incredible prospect. Feel for the game is obvious but people don't talk enough about how well he measures out. Seems like he could slide to the 2 in certain situations because he's proving to be a knockdown shooter. I also appreciate the fact that he's a known gym rat. My main concern is his lack of creating off the first step in the half court. Would also like to see him probe more in tight quarters, although I know that's harder to do with a shorter 3 point line and against the quicker, college sized guards. As of now my top 10 rankings:

Fultz
Ball
Jackson
Tatum
Ntilikina
DSJ
Fox
Isaac
Monk
Bridges

taking into consideration guys that typify a Heat type player. High motor, good length, versatile, and defensive upside. We are also not in a position to take a risk on a guy like Giles unless it's in the high teens or 20s

We are at number two. Only Brooklyn is ahead of us.

Isn't Pat Riley fond of tall PGs?

I'd love to get Ball. I know a few people don't think he'll be that good, but i think he'll be a top 10 PG.

If we can somehow get a late lotto to mid first. Ivan Rabb would be a very interesting pick for me imo. Feel like he gets a little slept on.

The game Pat Riley was at. One thing that I looked up that may be concerning, Ball is a 65% FT shooter. Isn't that something to be worried about? FT shooting seems to be a good indicator of somebodies shooting ability and with so much of Ball's offense coming from his long range 3's it might be reason to pause no?

Yes QUIZ. Good 3pt shooters with bad FT% are usually very streaky. All shooters are somewhat streaky, but I don't usually trust guys who can't make free throws to make 3 pointers consistently. They miss wide-open 3s and/or they miss wide-open 3s badly (indications of some major mechanical flaws). Also bad FT shooters seem rather unclutch because they can't rise to the occasion (get nervous easy?). Below 70% is a little concerning depending on the sample size.

I'm not a draft guy, but I feel like Ball would be great in the fast pace system with good offensive players. The problem is Spo doesn't know how to use pace, we are playing super slow even without high usage players. I'm not sure Ball would fit well.

Im fine with Ball if we keep pick and somehow fall out of the top 5 and all the good prospects on the want list are taken

Makes me wonder, with all the hype on him now how early does Monk go? Still 5-7, probably

Haven't been watching college ball so far so I breezed through this thread to see what you guys think about this draft class. It is just me or does this draft class seem overrated? I'm refering to the fact that some GMs called it the strongest draft class in the last decade or smth like that. You guys have been watching the games so I'm curious to know what you think.

That Jackson kid for example. Just saw the highlights from his last game and he got blocked 4 times. We're talking about highlights here so that certainly doesn't sound good. It doesn't look like he has a great first step, his handle seems basic and his shooting motion looks awful. His shooting %s as well. Judging by the highlights it looks like he's a role player on his college team. That doesn't bode well too.

The only thing he seems to do well on offense moving off the ball but it also looks like he's being guarded by mentally challenged people at times. And he's still somehow a top 3-5 prospect.

What am I missing?

maybe someone could explain to me why Ball is "all hype"? if anything, Monk is more of the classic hype prospect, with all his gaudy scoring numbers distracting from the fact thats he offers little to nothing else besides scoring. You know who else got just buckets in college? Adam Morrison, Marshawn Brooks, Jordan Crawford. Guys like Fultz and Ball are getting consensus top 3 consideration because they have great overall feel for the game, have amazing IQ, and have the kind of size that assures them advantages and overall versatility at the next level.

I can assure you that with a top 4 pick we are not going to go with the undersized streaky shooting 2 guard.

I have convinced myself Ball is the guy.
1. Ball
2. Fultz

I think this is like the 94 draft - Fultz is Glenn Robinson, Lonzo Ball is Jason Kidd. Fultz has the numbers and can fill it up, and will be a very good pro, but Ball is potentially revolutionary as a player. His numbers are better than Kidds in college, his style is similar, but he is 2 inches taller and with a 3 point shot. I also wonder a little if that doesn't make Tatum Grant Hill :)

I think most would agree ball's best attribute = BBALL IQ / PASSING

ok

ok

ok

now.......

you agree?

right.....

so lets think for a second how many top tier nba players in the league RIGHT NOW best attribute is BALL IQ / PASSING ?

NONE!

people tossing around jason kidd comparisons but what would jason kidd do in todays NBA? Would he be better than Curry? Kyrie? Westbrook? Isiah Thomas? Kemba Walker? John Wall? CP3? Kyle Lowry?

I'll be cool accepting being wrong but I can't think of too many guys who's best attribute is ONLY BBALL IQ or Passing.... CP3 is an elite defender, elite scorer, elite mid range shooter, elite clutch and he's the only guy who has really highly respected BBALL IQ out of the bunch. Ball very well could be solid and I expect him to be solid, but at #1 I'd rather try to hit a grand slam then try to hit a double play.
