Must be a tough weekend for Splitter with his heart dancing in Sapucaí.

I have no idea what you're talking about Gom but I'm getting hungry.

I love seeing random teams fans come in here hoping we can't keep the great White

 I wasn't interested. I was serious asking can you afford him. I know in Atlanta, because of rights of DMC, we couldn't afford both him and Sap and had to lose one of them.

Hate to say I told you so but ya I told you so. Anywho we didnt get Myles Turner but he is starting to turn it on as predicted. I posted this specifically in this thread because we are lucky enough to have Whiteside we might as well maximize his capabilities. He doesnt have the offensive polish and experience than young Myles has but he can definitely learn. Look at the setups for Turner and his off the ball rotations as well as his box outs on defense to maximize his length vs opponents for rebounds.

There is no reason we can get these same looks and effort out of Whiteside which is what is so frustrating with watching him now compared to what more we can still get out of him. Simple fixes hope Spo can figure this out.

Im not sure what your point is.

Whiteside isn't maximizing his rebounds? his length?

He's a MUCH better rebounder and shotblocker then Turner. by ALOT. How is that frustrating?

Turner is scoring more for a simple reason - he's a more versatile and talented shooter/scorer. It has nothing to do with Spo. Whiteside is bigger and less BB savvy despite being older. That's why their games are different. They bring different skillset.

I never want to see Whiteside taking turnaround long jumpers like Turner does. That's not who is, not who he is capable of being, not who he should aspire to be, and not what we want or need him to be.

Im not comparing Whiteside to Turner, im using Turners plays as X/O of positioning and plays that we should be working in for Whiteside. these are subtle fixes that can make Whiteside even more of a force. Not fixing things he can improve on would be a waste.

Small sample size but encouraging.

The biggest factor I see is simply effort and energy. I'm starting to think we made him bulk too much to the point where he gets gassed in extended minutes and starts playing in a lower gear, which is bad for his type of player. Carrying a lot of mussel can do that.

I wasn't teasing you. Brazilians have their hearts in Rio this weekend. Even our dogs can samba.

You will find many different opinions on our group, and we are far from reaching a consensus. Some do not want Whiteside at all for any price. Others want to pay him the least we can and do not expect other teams to compete.

There are a lot of biases about him from the press. Even yesterday I heard Stephanie Ready sharing her views that the reason Whiteside wasn't successful before was that he may not be able to remember plays or work well with his teammates. I can't understand why people assume that he isn't smart, but she must have access as a former coach and current sportscaster, right? My guess is they assume from his accent and his history (six high schools) that he must be dim-witted.

In any case, he is a polarizing figure. I'm a fan.

My expectation is that Riley will figure it out. Wade is on 20M this year, but the word was that he preferred a long-term contract last year. If we can sign him for 3/45 or 4/48, there is plenty of room for Whiteside (even at his max), and even a little left over. Like all teams we'll benefit from the cap going up from 89 to 108 in 2017, so we can add another free agent too. We'll also have a draft pick that year.

From Barry Jackon's latest article in regards to Hassan:

Regardless of whether he stays or not, this much is abundantly clear: The Heat's defense is better with him, despite often-cited early-season metrics that suggest otherwise.

Overall, the Heat had allowed 99.9 points in eight games he missed, compared with 95 when he plays. In January, as ESPN noted, the Heat allowed 96.8 points per 100 possessions with Whiteside on the court, compared with 102.7 without him.

“What he can give us is awesome, but we’re not dumping it down to him, like, ‘Hey, here you go,” Bosh said. “Those days are over in this league. If he’s going to roll to the basket, we’re going to hit him. But I don’t agree at all [with Barkley] that Hassan is the key [to the Heat season]. In the playoffs, you have to rely on your guys who have been there before.”

From Bosh in that article. IM not sure what others get from it but my fears seem to be right about the problems on this team going forward. They are not really trying to help him develop offensively. He gets scraps where and there but will that be enough?

Bosh is saying that, that isn't what we need from Hassan. You don't think Goran wants to average 20pts and not 12? Wade gets the most shots followed by Bosh. They're one and two.

Dumping the ball down to Hassan and moving out of the way would be the equivalent of passing is out to Goran and clearing out to allow him to iso. We aren't planning on doing that either.

A bad team would post him up because they wouldn't have as many mouths to feed but that isn't the case on our team. It's just the reality of our situation, we have too many talented guys for that.
