Re: 2025 Offseason Season Thread Vol. 1
Lauri Markkanen scares me. Another player that has never played meaningful minutes of basketball but has put up great stat lines. He is basically the power-forward version of Terry Rozier (remember; Rozier averaged 23ppg on the Charlotte Hornets the season he was traded to Miami).
I think we need to avoid going for players like this, especially since it will likely cost a lot of assets.

$50M a year offense only player who has 75%+ of his field goals assisted on joining a team that severely lacks playmaking. Very sketchy.

Yup. I've been saying - we need a play starter, an advantage creator - not a play finisher.
That's why a trey young fits better (on offense) then a Durant.
This roster needs an engine that will help the others.

We need to try and get Keon Ellis when the Kings blow it up and send us Derozan, he gives off Nesmith vibes albeit not as thick.

Zero interest in him now that Jimmy is gone.

Re: 2025 Offseason Season Thread Vol. 1
I dont want a small point guard that cant defend, especially next to herro (aka Garland trae sexton) and I dont want an overpaid forward that scores but doesnt rebound or play defense or make their team better (MPJ lauri ingram).
Another thing, Utah is consistently one of the worst teams in the west and way too many of you in the past have been way too horny to trade for half their team. If sexton lauri Collins are so good why did they finish last in the west. Idgi.

Good players could be put in bad spots. Utah wasn’t really worried about competing. They would purposely sit players and over play their younger players over vets and quietly tank throughout the year. They even got fined for sitting Lauri too much at the end of the year. A good scouting front office identifies good players on bad teams and sees how they could fit within there system and become quality contributors. These guys are considered buy low players. Meaning realistic gets unlike some of the pipe dream scenarios that routinely get tossed around.

I understand the hesitancy on players like Sexton, Lauri and Collins. They are not KD, Giannis, etc.
The thing is, the most important aspect of acquiring any player is what the cost is.
If you can add Sexton, Lauri and or Collins while keeping Herro, Bam, and Ware, for example, then that’s a damn good base to build around.
Personally, I try to be careful in assessing what a player can potentially become in different situations. Lauri hasn’t played with Bam, or been coached by Spo.
Who am I to say what he’d become here? I certainly didn’t foresee him improving as much as he did in Utah.

Re: 2025 Offseason Season Thread Vol. 1
Colin Sexton would be a great addition. Miami cannot have Davion Mitchell as a starter.
I like Markkanen, but not at ~$45M/season.
Miami will do its due diligence with Giannis, Durant, and Zion. I could absolutely see Miami checking in on FVV if somehow he doesn't extend with Houston. Of all those options, I think Durant is the most realistic with the Nets likely involved as a 3rd team.
If Miami manages to acquire Durant, I think Miami will put the full-court press on Chris Paul to play in Miami on a friendly deal to re-sign Davion Mitchell.

I think that’s a fair assessment.
A 37 year old KD at 57 million is still worlds better than Markkanen in terms of talent and fit.
