He definitely has an offensive bag, and he’s scrappy. I phucks with it.

Sounds like your rooting for the kid to fail at this point, you’ve been at it for hours; if he plays well he’s gonna shut you up.

Just venting. I hope he does.

Bam looked like a reach too, so who knows.

IF he's a much better shooter then he showed like some have suggested,
And IF they think he's tough enough to play PF (Because he's small for the position) -

Then maybe he can be a real player.

I'm rooting for him to surprise, no one mocked the kid to go top 20.

I’m sure they believe in his shooting ability. His form looks good and he was a good midrange shooter. It’s not like there’s no precedent for then turning a non-shooter into a shooter. J Rich shot 31% from three over his four year college career on two attempts per game.
Don’t let us get one. — Nikola Jovic

Dru Smith very lucky he got that 500k this year. He should invest and manage a subway after all this-MettaWorldPanda

Huh? It seemed like numerous mocks had him going to us at 18?

Jaquez should be considered a pure SF at 6’7 225-230 in the mold of Jimmy. He has the toughness to play the 4 in small ball rotations but to me we are looking at 3/2 type player.

Have to assume they believe in his stroke and see him as a versatile offensive player, capable of initiating a PnR, Iso, and cutting off ball. Hopefully he can improve his catch and shoot game, as it’ll be necessary for him at the next level.

Does look a polished offensive player though. Lots of pivots, hesitations and patience in his moves. The fadeaway is nice.

Only saw one, and only last minute once our intentions to reach for him got out there. No other team has ever been mocked to pick him in the first round.

It doesn't mean he's not deserving, but just a couple of weeks ago no one gave him a chance to be top 20 or even top 30.

Apparently he jumped up because he looked very good in the pre-draft workout, and I'd bet he gave great interviews, he sounds like a likeable smart hard working kid.

We'll find out soon enough if the jump was justifiable.

I really hope he can be a legit PF because the opportunities there will be much bigger then the one behind Jimmy and Martin. (And Cain). We need a scoring PF real bad

He can clearly bang and score averaging 18 and 8 last year. Regardless big versatile upgrade in size over having to use the wiry 200 pound 6’5 Martin.

So he wasn’t projected as a 1st round pick… but was invited to the green room?

Watching the combine it stood out to me how much shorter Jett was than his dad. They’re def playing height games to list Jett at 6’8. Coincidentally he didn’t measure at the draft combine. Hmm…

OG Anunoby 6"7 230 - 5.4 rbs at Indiana
PJ Washington 6'7 228 - 7.5 rbs at Kentucky
Jaime Jaquez 6'7 228 - 8.2 rbs at UCLA

Much smaller wingspan and standing reach than both.

I swear I’m not trying to be a downer. I’m slightly disappointed for the reach due to 3-4 of the other players on board.

But I’m looking forward to rooting for Jaquez and seeing what he’ll contribute.

Now I’m in deep dive mode to critically assess him. One thing that stands out is his relatively short standing reach for someone with a 6’9 wingspan. Seems like he may have tanked his standing reach to juice up his vertical number.

Just checked—at 8’3.5, he has the shortest standing reach of any forward+ from this years draft combine.

IMO he shorted the measurement (so he’s actually longer than listed) so he can juice up his vertical jump number.

He had about zero appearances in round 1 of any mocks up until about a week ago. Him getting invited to the draft after Heat showing clear interest telegraphed that the Heat would be picking him. MWP nailed that one
