Re: 2019 Heat Offseason thread 4.0- Yimmy and the Kids!
Here's another way to look at the deal. Maybe it was true that Houston and Miami were the only two options with Houston being Westbrook's preferred out of the two. Houston only wanted to get off of CP3 for Westbrook and Miami only wanted to do expiring deals for Westbrook no young guys and no picks.
OKC know they will need to give up picks to move CP3 for cap relief. So they now send Miami CP3 and our own 2021 pick and our 1-15 protected 2023 pick back to us.
Essentially OKC end up getting our expirings and upgrade our 2021 and 2023 1-15 protected picks to Houston's 2024 1-4 protected and 2026 1-4 protected picks plus add pick swaps in 2021 and 2025, Westbrook goes to his preferred destination and Miami get the assets they need to now pursue Beal to add to Paul and Butler.

This is exactly what I think has happened tbh, but Miami won’t get the protected pick back imo.

If the deal for Beal was Winslow, Waiters, DJJr and 2 unprotected FRP's would you make that deal?

I am one of the few that would rather have Goran instead of CP3 lol.
Let’s face it, the ones rooting for a Dragic trade are Winslow for PG advocates, when the reality is CP3 would take Winslow’s minutes as a PG.
Heck Winslow is NOT a PG lol

In this league cap money is of more value than draft picks if you are a desired destination such as South Beach with assets. IMO

How in Gods Earth is Washington going to do this unless we take Wall in a deal?
You mean go after Beal in FA?
Just keep the players we have as some will come off the books by then I think. No need to trade for CP3 period, unless Washington already accepted lol

It would be but that Paul contract factored in with his age makes me sad.

Sometimes a change of scenery is what's needed. He'd also be playing in an easier conference.
Willing to take the chance on the league MVP/ triple double monster. I don't see the downside. Miami didn't even make the playoffs last year and is likely a 6-8 seed this upcoming season. Take the chance and if it pays off we'll all be giddy.
We aren’t saying to not take the chance... we are saying that a certain price is too expensive of a price to take that chance.
My suggestion for Chris Paul and picks coming back seems better than sending out picks for Russell Westbrook, when you consider both players are good starting point guards, have about the same chance of playing well until the end of their contracts (despite the difference in age), Chris Paul being a better team leader (plus as HEATlanta mentions, president of the player's union, which is an organization the players and all good fans support and respect)... plus he'll take us to the ECF.
If these are the options:
(a) Trade Goran/Waiters/JJ for Chris Paul and a pick.
(b) Trade Goran/Winslow/JJ for Chris Paul and two picks.
(c) Trade Goran/Winslow/filler/picks for Westbrook
(d) Do nothing.
I'm not taking C.
So you're saying that Winslow is only worth a lottery protected FRP. Is that how lowly you rate him?

CP3 had definitely fallen off this past season but sheesh people are acting like he is a bona fide scrub and cannot impact on a contending team when healthy. It was literally 2 seasons ago when the Rockets was a CP3 injury away from beating the NBA champs. Dragic > CP3?! Are some of you high?
Look, CP3 & Harden was never going to work. CP3's game allows him to age gracefully but the injuries held him back. I don't put too much stock in his performance last season; you can tell the writing was on the wall between him and Harden.
CP3 can still play at a relatively high level in this league IMO, hell he can be an All-Star in the East. On this team, if it wasn't for that contract, yall would salivate to get him on this team with Butler.
But alas, its because of the contract why I am against him coming here. UNLESS OKC gives us a boatload of picks, it just doesn't make sense to us.

Boggles my mind HIF. So much Winnie slander and for what? He was our best player for a decent portion of last season.
Still young at 23yrs old and about to come into a bigger role this year. A playmaking 3&D wing. For a guy who has got considerably better at his shortcomings (finishing and the 3 ball) and has shown flashes of a really unique skill set (Point Winnie), I don’t get why he isn’t looked at favourably by a large portion of fans.
People wanna use this kid as cap filler, tchiurps.

Paul?! Look I was against Westbrook trade but I could stomach it as Westbrook is easy to cheer for. Plays hard, gives 100% effort every game.
But CP3? I will not cheer for this flopping diva. Absolutely cannot stand this clown. I’m not one of those guys that hates a player, then when he is on your team you cheer. No, I refuse to be a fan of Chris Paul. Riley does this and he is easily the worst GM in the league. So tired of Riley and his no patience having ass. Just sit tight and wait til 2021 old man

I’d argue that Paul’s fit next to Butler is better than Westbrook’s just his age that’s the biggest concern. I’m not saying Paul is better than Westbrook but he is the better fit for Jimmy.
I’m not against him coming but it’s all on the circumstances of the trade, if we can get our 2021 pick along with our 2023 pick but I’d be more than happy to take Paul.
If we can somehow keep Dragic in this deal I’d also love it because his expiring would give us flexibility going forward via trade or free agency and he’s still a very good player. I don’t understand how some people think Dragic is better than Paul though, take away their contracts and it’s not even close. Never has been, never will be.
Another thing, Paul played with the guy with the second highest usage in the league. That would’ve impacted his game greatly imo, Paul can still ball in this league and if he is healthy will be an All-Star next to Jimmy in the East imo.
I hope Presti gives us a great deal here, we can compete now and build on that for the future with our young players and assets moving forward.

I know we aren't getting Beal but some people were saying to take on Wall if it lands us Beal. My math might be wrong but let's imagine Wizards give us Beal if we take wall. We would have to ship out Dragic, Waiters, Johnson, Winslow, and Olynyk. The team would be completely gutted

Beal/Herro
Butler/DJJ

Fans are going to be so pissed if and when this trade happens. They are setting their expectations way too high. People think that OKC traded Westbrook to Houston for CP3 + picks just so they can trade CP3 + picks to us for our trash.
Presti isn't playing games. He is demanding assets with every trade, and getting them.
Backed himself into s hole with the CP3 thing tho. Can’t think of many teams that will even want him on their team, let alone trade good assets for him.
That's likely so, but the assets don't have to be so good, they just need to beat our offer. But I expect this to maybe drag out until December.
