The picks he got from Houston are better than what he would have to give us. They are only 1-4 protected, and come when harden and Westbrook are 35-37 years old (2024 and 2026). On top of that they got 2 pick swaps (2021 and 2025), which can be incredibly valuable.

If he just has to give us our own picks back to take CP3, then he comes out ahead. He’s doing the same thing he did with Paul George, extracting maximum value at each moment, and then figure out the rest later. It’s a rebuild anyway.

Not saying this means we are getting CP3, but from Presti’s end it makes sense.

Exactly! I don't know why people were focused on paying the remaining $170M~ to Westbrook. The Heat are already paying that to a combination of lesser players now lol. In 2021 they'll do it again for some FA only the numbers will be even bigger.

I cant wait to see Dragic and Butler in the fullcourt. Finally have a player who can run with Dragic. Hopefully that influence Winslow to get into the fullcourt as well.

If Miami can figure out a way to get Chris Paul without giving up too much they should be a 7 or 8 seed in the East I would think!

That is true, give up our expiring's for CP3. It would have benefited OKC better than to take on Paul.

We are a 7 or 8 seed as we stand today. Why would I want 34 year Chris Paul with that contract to climb just a couple of spots? I would like to keep rolling with WInslow and Bam and accelerate Herro's development. Let's see what a healthy Waiters and JJ can contribute as well.

It could be that we want make the Paul trade a part of a three team trade with Washington with Beal because of our hard cap situation?

Obviously I have no idea really but it could've been that WE wanted Russ so were unwilling to help Houston get him, however once Houston and Oklahoma sorted something out and we could no longer hold out hope of Westbrook we saw that we could come away with some useful picks whilst getting CP3.

Just another alternative idea.

Funny to see how wrong Pie in the sky and some others were. Yet I'm sure those same frauds will be quoted here in the next possible trade scenario. At least it keeps the off-season busy.

OKC going to trade CP3 for Wiggins (getting picks in the process), then will trade Wiggins to Washington for Wall (getting picks in the process), then will trade Wall to Houston for Russ (getting picks in the process).

I would support that if our team didnt manage to be a borderline playoff team no matter how terrible our squad is. Pretty hard to build a contender through the draft if you never get a pick lower than 10 and when we do we select Michael Beasley.

it doesnt happen overnight

The trade doesn't make sense from an OKC standpoint. You are just saving on 1 year of Westbrooks contract, got a couple of picks and a couple of more swaps but now you have an older player with equally big contract to trade and you might have to use some of those picks just to move him. I guess they were really trying to do right by Russell.

If CP3 doesn't want OKC, then have him change his player option in 2022 into a team option.

That's a lot of money to leave on the table though...

Oh yeah. 40 million bucks is no joke. Depends on whether he thinks he can recoup that through endorsements in a bigger market, and how long he plans on playing.

Its not an issue if he doesn't mind playing in OKC.

Is that allowed?
If so, and he wants Miami, if I’m Riley, I tell him that I’ll trade for you but I need that changed.
That’s the only way plus picks that I’d do the deal.

I believe so. I feel as if I've read that somewhere happening before. I'd defer to one of the contract guys on the board to clarify. Not an easy thing to Google apparently.

If that was possible and Paul was willing to do it, we would not even need picks back for it

Becomes a 2 year contract, which honestly lines up with our window, and is not terrible

Huge difference between him on a 3 year deal and him on a 2 year deal

Part of me thinks Paul may stay put on OKC and give up the ring chasing life for good. He did play there long ago, and actually delivered basketball to OKC when those fans showed up to support him and the Hornets after Katrina

Kinda full circle for Paul
