I guess for 5.5 mil a year i’m not gonna harp too much about resigning Highsmith. Maybe playing with a true shotblocker like Ware helps things out when we go small.

Jesus Christ we pushed up right against the second apron for this dude. Why couldn't another team save us from ourselves like the 76'ers? Now we're going to see this guy jagging it up with Dru Smith, while the rooks rot on the bench

Glad Jagsmith is back. We'll need him in order to matchup effectively against elite perimeter oriented teams (i.e. Boston).

5.2 million a year in the grand scheme is nothing of a perimeter defensive specialist. Just have to make sure Spo doesn’t overplay his hand or resorts to Love at Center and HH at the 4. Ware with JJ and Highsmith should be ok for small ball variations.

I still see the door open for a trade to be made for a backup PG.

Totally agree.
Same for guys like Pelle, Duncan, and Herro. These guys should be guarding opposing guards, not forwards. And their time on the floor together (specifically Herro and Duncan) should be non-existent.

You want Jagsmith on your team if you're going up against the Celtics. We can matchup pretty well with them on the perimeter (defensively):
Rozier
JJJ
Butler
Highsmith
Bam
Weakest link is Rozier but he'll be needed for the offense. Everyone else can switch and guard multiple positions.

Eh, Dru Smith is a two way right? He could be gone at any point. If he's picked over all the promising pgs we have in summer league this year I'd start getting pissed. Plus with Caleb gone, Highsmith is NEEDED with the team as it currently is built. Our perimeter defense is hanging by a thread. And for 5.5 mill a year? That's not even a lot.

If Lillard is calling Highsmith to lobby him to the Bucks he’s not getting traded any time soon.

Also, I think it's a year too soon to bring in Keshad in the Highsmith role. By the time Highsmith is done, he'll probably be ready.

We can’t sign anyone else. Not even Cole Swider for 2.1. Have to make a trade at this point that takes us away from the apron in order to make any more moves.

Re: Miami Heat Offseason Thread Vol. 4: Fraudfather Snoozin 2.0
If this FO now makes a sizable trade, it'll may be a great summer maneuver by the FO.
Why?
Miami probably figured Martin was gone for months (just like a lot on this board thought). They figured they wanted Highsmith back but wanted to give him around the taxpayer MLE to do that. With Miami setting themselves up to have just about the MLE left under the 2nd Apron, they could tell Highsmith and his agent that they'd like to give him more but can't/won't go into the 2nd apron (which is why they may have signed Braynt kinda early to box in the 14th contract to around the MLE.
Now, if Miami wanted to do a trade, which would have sent out more than they bring back, that savings could have been held over them by Highsmith and his agent, saying we want 8-9 mil of what you have left under the 2nd apron. Why does it matter? Miami is in the tax so any money they eventually save with a trade doubles/triples the money they save overall.
I'm now waiting for the FO to finish this 4d chess move.

They’ll develop him slowly in Sioux Falls

I agree. Give Keshad time to learn the game at Sioux falls. He’s going to be a real good one
