The change at this time is because ownership changed in the middle of the offseason, so the new ownership waited until the offseason was basically over before making the change. Hopefully for Timberwolves fans this next POBO is there long term for stability, the last owner who was just horrible kept making changes every few years which kept the team from really moving forward to being a good team.

Hopefully for the rest of the league its not. KAT is a season away from asking for a trade if they miss playoffs again. If him and Butler could mend fences I'd do anyone on the roster for him, Bam included.

That fence isn't getting mended, Towns tried and and in the end probably got Thibodeau fired who Butler loves, it's actually the reason I believe Butler forced his way out. If you remember, the next year when Butler got to Miami he had Thibodeau as a guest in Miami.

Towns wants to win on HIS terms, he'd never fit in Miami.

Yes Towns is a great talent and if he'd listen he'd be a winner, but he wants to do it his way and would rather argue about a call vs get back and play defense, it's a little different a wing not getting back vs your rim protector.

True. But at some point he has to realize that it's not working. And the one season he was with Butler they almost made playoffs till Butler got hurt. We know there's back channelling in the NBA. If KATs people got word to Riley and was like I want to win and I will go all in on Heat culture. Then Riley could talk to Butler and make it work.
Now there were rumors that split involved a girl, if that was the case then 0 % chance

He actually may figure it out when he's past his prime much like Melo did.

Thibodeau's first year in Minnesota he tried making a statement to Wiggins and Towns, he let them score to their heart's content and they lost a lot of games. He brings in Butler, added a defensive PF and while they were healthy they got up to 3rd in the West before Butler missed the last 6 of 7 weeks of the season.

A couple of other things... Towns wanted a guarantee from the owner if he signed his extension that Butler would be gone and as you probably know, Thibodeau did everything he could to not trade Butler including vetoing a trade that he basically agreed to with Miami. A year later he pushed to have Minnesota do whatever it took to trade for D-LO which lost them a huge asset that could have been utilized to add more talent around him. Sometimes when you have great talent you want to be catered to, and that's what Towns wants.

Miami just needs to keep looking for players who want to maximize their talents and are willing to sacrifice to win, it's a good formula and talent will end up coming to be a part of that. Miami's a good franchise under Riley even if I think he's made a bunch of mistakes in recent years, he has kept the culture pretty consistent and with that this team hasn't really been horrible and just 1 big signing could make the Heat contenders again, last time it was LeBron and Bosh, this time it got Miami Butler and Oladipo to force their way to Miami and if this team keeps on being consistent in it's culture(even when Riley is gone), others will follow.

Maybe some of us have followed teams/players closer then others? Towns went from the young player the GMs voted as their #1 young player to build around to being nearly an afterthought, BTW... he's turning 26 in a few days, basically 2 years younger then what Butler was when they traded for him yet only have 1 playoff appearance with Towns... the year Butler was with them. Winning to me is better then great stats.

To really summarize the whole situation with Butler, Towns didn't like Thibodeau which is why he didn't like Butler either, he didn't like how hard Thibodeau was on him and didn't like the language Thibodeau used(cussing), both things that Miami/Spoelstra/Butler and of course most players are good with because it's all about winning, it's not personal(which Butler has mentioned a few times in the last few years), it's about pushing to be better.
“I just don’t think there have been many people that have understood how important winning is to me, man,’’ Butler told the Sun-Times in late April. “I just had a conversation about that very thing with somebody — not important who — but I put so much into this game, and I only play to win.”

It’s possible Butler could change his mind if the Timberwolves were to trade Towns — a move ownership is said to be highly against — or if Towns proved to Butler he isn’t “Amish-like,’’ as Towns described himself during a losing first-round playoff series against the Rockets.

Butler knew if he stayed in Minnesota he was going to be tied to Towns and Wiggins(the owner vetoed Thibodeau from trading Wiggins for Butler).

Coach Tom Thibodeau has a strong relationship with Butler, but Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor didn’t help things in April, telling a Minneapolis radio show that Butler would be a key in recruiting players this summer. That led to Butler’s agent, Bernie Lee, firing back, “That’s not Jimmy’s role.”

The summer of 2018, Towns was up for an extension and it was being reported that he was waiting for the Butler situation to be "handled" before signing which Shams brought up talking about Butler's situation.

Once Towns signed that extension the owner really started pushing for Butler to be moved while Thibodeau wanted to keep Butler at all costs. At one point Miami thought they had a Butler trade yet Thibodeau just asked for more to get Riley to say no.
There actually came a point where the owner told other teams to come to him directly to discuss trading for Butler.

More hearsay prosed as facts; I can't say it enough, sports culture is weird.

I don't care how closely you've followed them on the internet, you don't know Jimmy or Towns

So Rosas gave new ownership a reason to fire him.

If it was consensual why are they bringing it up. Just fire the dude no reason to try to insinuate he did something wrong. Personally if I was in upper management I wouldn't date any of the employees. It's a grey area but these relationship happens. I don't mind if he was fired for that but that putting that out in the media is wrong. These days your brand and reputation matter, especially financially.

You're right, I don't know Butler or Towns, but I can go with what they say in interviews, I can also make a leap of faith that reporters' who have credibility also give out valid information, but of course, throw out all the info from reporters who's job it is to give out info if it's info that leads to a player you like being an issue because you can stamp "hearsay" on it without giving any consideration to the validity of the information.

Me following players/teams as much as I do is also why I've been a Butler for years. Even before, during and after all the stories of Butler being a toxic teammate, digging deeper, even on the internet, can give you more information on the subject.

Oh hey there Goph

Hearing you guys up there are having a superb offseason with great stability and uncanny communication with your franchise player in Anthony "the promise" Towns.

Even hearing some ramblings about you guys trading young Edwards for the GSW emerging star Andrew "the last promise" Wiggins.

Great to hear you guys are heading for better days, surly will see you in the playoffs!
