CP is a far greater negative asset than Westbrook due to age and injuries. No way should our offer be the same as what we were willing to do for Westbrook. Cap relief comes with a price, and OKC needs to pay up to get that relief. They no longer are offering this shiny player, they are offering a rusty, over the hill player with the same albatross of a contract. That’s gonna cost them to get rid of.

Well that is between the Heat and OKC. Heat did not want to give up any young players for Westbrook. OKC wanted two young prospects, they got them in the Westbrook trade in forms of draft picks. It would be pointless for them to now turn around and give that to the Heat. I do not believe any of our young players on on the table for Paul. All they are gonna get is cap fillers on shorter deals from the Heat.

Then we walk away. What is the incentive here to get them from out of that deal? It’s not like CP is a positive asset at this point in his career with that contract. We just got off of giving Wade the minimum 2 years in a row at that age. Wade is the Miami HEAT and we gave him the min during these years. Why should we give Paul nearly 40 for the same age years and do it without incentive from the team being saved from that?

What do you mean positive asset? He would be the second best player on the team? Why would the Heat trade for him if he isnt making the Heat better? For a few late round draft picks??

PG: Chris Paul - ??

SF: Justise Winslow - Duncan Robinson - ??
PF: Kelly Olynyk - ??
Ce: Bam Adebayo - Yante Maten

Butler and Winslow can play backup PG but yes another PG is needed, also need to add a vet backup defensive center.

It won’t. But it heightens our chances IF Bam or Winslow makes a leap. At least as far as potentially making it out of the East IMO which is better than 26 other teams. If both Winslow and Bam make a leap not only are we a ECF level team but we also have the assets for a Beal type addition. Also who knows what we have in KZ? seeems to be some hype there as far as having another solid asset. So in a vacuum na CP doesn't do it but definitely heightens our chances if the younger players show significant growth. We also would be one hell of a scrappy team which im here for.

CP isn’t giving us much more than what Wade did these last two seasons. That is not 40 million worth of production, and if it is, then if it were possible, I would rather call Wade up and offer him a big pay day than gift OKC a free get out of jail card.

The Heat would definitely be a title contender. Butler would have a better supporting cast than Leonard had in Toronto.

If you think this is bad, how do you think FOs and coaches feel, a single significant trades has huge implications that they have to plan for (possibly looking at future trades to shape the roster) before finding out if a trade happens or doesn't. As fans, we hear a fraction of what's going on.

Chris Paul is a better player than you guys are making him out to be

He's a ball dominant facilitator who's shared the floor with another ball dominant guard....

If we can get him to a team option, that deal is worth every penny, I have always admired Paul and his game, he's a great PG

Also, CP's IQ is about ten levels higher than WBs.

Now you are selling CP3 wayyyyyyyyyy short. He would be the second best point in the east.

CP3 gets you really really close in the East I feel

If we can swing picks and Winslow/DJJ and a filler for Beal, then we bake

I'm really talking myself into a Chris Paul for a Dragic/JJ/Waiters swap. Goddamit.

There are possibly less risky(fewer years on contract) options than CP3, a certain buddy of Butler's is only signed for 1 more big year and if he works out, sign possibly a team friendly contract for another year or 2.

I just learned that Winslow is only 3 months older than Simmons. If Winslow can get his TS% to 56% and increases his PPG to 18, he's a star.

I said he is “not” a positive asset. Be objective and Look at the whole equation here.... CP is a good player, that’s for sure, but he should be making half of what he is at this point in his career, considering his current production, age, and consistent injuries. Yes, he would be our second best player, but since all those other factors are a big problem moving forward, as a whole, CP3 is a negative asset.

At the least, expiring contracts and cap relief are neutral assets. Why would we trade our neutral assets for a negative asset and not be incentivized? With that said, Dragic and KO are better than neutral assets, thus caking for 2 incentives. Simple integer arithmetic. If we can’t break a deal that has us at least breaking even, walk away.

Breaking even to me is combining their negative asset with two positive assets to equal our positive assets in the transaction.

Friendly reminder that Clint Capela averaged 17 PPG on 65% shooting last year with Paul throwing him lobs, and creating opportunities for him

Bam could be a 15-20 PPG guy with Paul and Butler, getting easy looks inside

If he can improve his scoring a little he could have a real nice statistical season, but if not I still think with Paul he's giving us 15-20 a night off easy ones

Personally I think Bam is the far superior offensive talent to Capela could be a really nice piece

If we do this deal (which I think we will), I think we should not give them any expirings and make sure we get our unprotected pick back and keep the protection on the 2023 pick.

Is it possible to keep Dragic and Leonard in this deal? I feel like they could be key in another trade down the line
