Glad to see more folk on the Patton train but you should know the boy is plenty soft, even as skilled as he is. If I didn't believe in drafting in the lotto based on upside, wouldn't consider him. Doesn't have that Miami dog, dude gets bullied too often. There's hope that he builds into his frame as he ages and learns to compete but if you've seen em', it's a bit concerning.

You could see some flashes of it in his weaknesses vid, also he's not gonna be fit to play the 4

I respect your opinion Bish but i just cant come to grips with being sold on Leaf. It's not because i think he's a goofy white boy either. I'm actively rooting for Zach Collins and wouldn't even mind Luke Kennard. I just don't see anything special with Leaf. Comes off as an NBA journeyman type in the mold of David Lee but worse. Patton on the other hand I see plenty of potential. I think we can make that kid into something special. I also wound't mind John Collins. I think if you team him up with fellow Deacon JJ we can develop him into a similar type player.

Only a week left before Markkanen falls to us. On the edge of my seat.

radikalBaller wrote:Collins would be a backup C for us. In college he was known as a good straight jumping shot blocker but his lenght is very average so he won't be able to replicate Hassan interior defense in the NBA. He cannot pass the ball, contest jumpshooters, nor read the floor very well. Jason smith is a good comparison or a better version of Justin Hamilton, pretty underwelming for a 14th pick.

If anything Justin Patton is the better prospect as a traditional backup center.

The league is moving from those traditional centers in favor of point centers that can read the floor, pass the rock, shoot a little, defend and switch 1 through 5.

Traditional 7 footers can't play in the playoffs and get run out of the floor by team like warriors and cavs unless they are defensive stallwarts like Whiteside and Gobert.

We got to be super smart with this pick, we have no pick in the next 2 years.

We'll have at least one pick, most likely 2019.

TJ for a second rounder and Reed is most likely leaving. Still want Thomas Bryant as our 2nd rounder.

Ask yourself those questions:

1) How many bigs can defend the perimiter + the paint (to some degree), pass, & shoot a little in the nba and who are they?

Maybe 6: Durant, Draymond, Giannis, Lebron, A.Davis, James Johnson

2) How valuable could those type of players be for the Heat ?

Extremely valuable

3) How many non perimeter defending bigs had an impact in the playoffs & who are they ?

Maybe 6:

Love, Gassol, Millsap, Griffin

Jordan, Gobert

4) What are their skills ?

Either Elite Shooting/scoring, Rebounding & Passing

or Elite size/lenght, athletism & defense

5) Is there any non perimeter defending big with the skills level of the aforementioned actually available in this draft at 14th ?

Nope

6) Who would you draft with the 14th pick knowing that you do not have any picks for the next 2 years and why ?

Jordan Bell because we need a big and if he develops his jumpshot he would be the steal of the draft with the possibility to fall in the selective group defined in Question 1

Lauri
Z.Collins
Kennard
O.G.
Justin Jackson

Give me any of those names and I'll be happy.

Anybody else at this point is whatever.

Lauri over DSJ for me. Trust TJ more than DSJ for consistency.

This is the first Draft that I'm following so closely.

Can anyone with more experience tell me if he also feels like the 1 to 10 are already known?

Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Taytum, Isaac, Fox, Smith, Ntilikina, Markannen, Monk will be top 10 for sure right? You could argue that Zach Collins has closed the gap so we can say we know the Top 11.

The gap is bigger with the rest afterwards, can't see some of the Top 11 falling out of it?

We would have Mitchell, John Collins, Kennard or Allen available at the 14 then.

Do you agree or is it because I'm new to analysing Drafts?

Sounds about right, I don't think Z.Collins last to 14th, the suns are targeting him even if it mean trading down for them

An NBA Journeyman worse than David Lee seems a bit specific and premature. There are very good (and broad) reasons why David Lee doesn't stack well against Forwards in the new NBA, in a way that he's not similar to Leaf. Lee doesn't shoot the 3 at all (Unlike Leaf), he doesn't compete on defense (Unlike sir Leafsquad) and although he has some vision, he is not a true passing big man. His TO:AST thru his career to college barely supports that

I would love Zach Collins but the depth between the top 7-14 isn't deep enough to assume he'll be there for us, I would pick him if he was.

I don't believe anyone's wild enough to use a lotto pick on Kennard, so he's out of the convo for me. If some team is bold enough to go for him in the lotto and Mitchell is still there, then based on upside, I would go

OG
Leaf
Mitchell
Patton
Long Live Winnie. Mamba siempre

Rest in Power Chadwick

How many fours shoot better than 29% from 3 and can facilitate like a guard in the NBA? Think I can tell you all of them. Draymond, Millsap, Saric, James Johnson, Parker and Love. Only 6 players and besides Saric, all of them are well known.
