I hope our g league team will be active next season. Disabling it was a mistake.

Re: MIAMI HEAT Offseason Thread 2021 Vol.2
Operating as a capped team means Oladipo is coming back under his bird rights. My question is what about the glut at the two guard spot. If Herro is kept he undoubtedly needs to be made the starter at the two sink or swim. You sign Oladipo to be his backup when he comes back. In the mean time you have Strus as a place holder until Dipo comes back. If you resign Nunn he can also help out at the two spot. One thing that needs to happen is the Herro and Duncan pairing needs to be broken up. We can’t handle that type of defensive liability when they are on the floor together. Either you trade Herro for Sexton or S&T Duncan for a PG.

He's staying with us. Good. Keep him cheap, hope for a full-ish recovery from surgery.
Low risk highish reward.

Nothing about K.Love says Heat player. He'd be worse than DRob defensively, too slow, too old, and no longer puts up good enough numbers to justify his questionable work ethic.

We don't have a lot of viable options at PF.
Bam needs a shooter next to him, Jimmy needs a shooter too. We have very limited resources to spend on a PF and the market is very limited in that position too.
Love is grossly overpaid but if he gets bought out - he's the best stretch PF we can get. He's a legit rebounder and 3 point shooter with a lot of experience, and he's not even old..he's just always hurt. You take him for small money after the buyout and pray he stays healthy. His skillset would be perfect between Bam and Jimmy.
It's either him or yo'ure starting KZ/old man Milsap/Rook Omer/random journeyman PF.
I'll take Love.

If the choice is between Love & KP, who do you take?
Both have horrible contracts, and Love’s is 1 year shorter. But how does availability, fit and culture fit play into?

I think this is a little overblown. Here is Love's quote.
“Come on man. It’s a long season,” Love answered when asked if he also wakes up at 3:30 a.m. “I think Jimmy is an amazing player, but I think there are some things that are for show. We’ve been putting in long hours so us getting up at 3:30 and getting in there is not going to do anything for us but make us mad.”
I don't think Love saying this about Jimmy's workouts means much of anything and he does preface what he's saying praising Jimmy as a player. I imagine a lot of guys don't work the way Jimmy works let alone big guys like Love. Also important to remember Jimmy is talking about doing this in the offseason. Not even every hard working player puts those type of hours into the offseason.
Not every Heat player has to live, sleep and breathe Heat culture.

I think a lot of this would have to come down to the cost. On paper Porzingis would probably be the better option but I think between the two Porzingis would come with a more expensive price tag being the younger player and having to deal with Dallas to get him. but if it comes down to Love on a buyout or a Porzingis trade I'll take Love at the minimum any day.
I think Love is a far more realistic scenario for us than Porzingis is. Love to me would be an upgraded Olynyk who will actually be able to get us a rebound. I'm also optimistic that Love's poor production in Cleveland is more so him not wanting to be in Cleveland than him seriously declining as a player. I still think Love can be close to a 17ppg/10rpg/3apg player in a better situation.

I think is more important for him to play with a Unit that complement his game more so than starting. Let's see how the roster shakes out.MettaWorldPanda wrote:Operating as a capped team means Oladipo is coming back under his bird rights. My question is what about the glut at the two guard spot. Both are a big injury risk = draw
Love's contract is a year shorter - big Love advantage
Love is more experienced, less likely to cry about role - small Love advantage
Love deal might net us Sexton as well, Cavs not trying to contend right now while Mavs are - huge Love advantage
Skillset wise - Healthy Porzingis is a C while Love is a PF, I think we'll be better with a huge shot blocking C next to Bam since both Love and Porzingis are legit 3 point shooters- small Advantage Porzingis.

I get interested when Kristaps is brought up. Not at all with Love.
Truthfully though, we probably are better off without both. If they play less than 50% of games, especially come playoff time....

Porzingis is MUCH more athletic, 7 years younger, and was a better shooter last year.
Personally, I trust the 26 year old to recover and become himself again if not better as he matures. It's hard for me to trust the 33 year old, especially defensively.
I don't get tempted to move Herro in a Sexton/Love deal, however if it is a 3 team deal involving Kristaps, I reconsider. I wonder if we can get Kristaps for the expirings of Goran and Iggy (Luka def wants Goran).
That balances out our roster a TON
Sexton/Nunn?
Duncan/Oladipo/Strus (He will take a big step forward next year)
Jimmy/We need a backup 3&D that's younger than Ariza
Bam/Precious
KP/Dedmon

Word from Dallas fans is that KP lost a bunch of mobility last year. If he could regain that and play the entire playoffs, then he's a pretty easy yes for me. Have to be available for the playoffs...
