I think we're better off letting Marion and expire and not signing anyone long term this summer. I know people hate "wasting" a season, but a 19 year old Beasley or Rose isnt going to make us a contender with Wade, the MLE, and the team we have now. If the cap goes up by the same amount the next 2 seasons we're looking at over 15 mil in cap space to make a run at a free agent in the summer of 09.
Specifically i'm looking at Brand. If he's willing to take a small pay cut (we're still talking 90 millionish over 5 years) we could definitely make a run at him.

As I posted on the random trade thread, money is going to be hard to come by if we plan on making space for a big name free agent. Getting Hinrich and Nocioni back for Marion's contract would make it incredibly difficult to do that.

Joakim Noah was arrested for possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol. Will this situation influence Chicago's pick?
I really think it does. One of the big questions about Beasley is his character...How would Paxson look if he were to take another guy with character issues after what just happened with Noah. I've thought all along that Chicago was going to go Rose, but I think after this little situation, it's almost 90% going to be Rose. A leadership guy with no character issues who will be running the team in 2-3 years is exactly what they need.

he will be a nice player for us next year next to Wade and #2 pick
The only problem is that we arent going to improve THAT much next year.
We should let him go next year as he will be 31 and will want a long contract with big numbers. We shall be able to sign a better free agent with that sort of money next year

I agree, he's exactly the kind of player the Heat needs. Problem is, its a conflict to what Riley wants regarding the cap space in 2010.BBallFreak wrote:SmushedPennies wrote: We don't want Nocioni. He's not liked here.
Speak for yourself. He's exactly the kind of player I love on this team...
Back to the original question or topic in this board, looks like the Bulls will draft Rose because a report says they're for trading Hinrich.

How do you figure?
Both Nocioni and Hinrich are on declining contracts. All we have to do is let Haslem and Blount expire and we've got our 2010 cap space.

Wade 18 mil (Either way through cap hold or resigning based on a 60 mil cap in 2010).
Hinrich 9 million
Nocioni 8 million? (Can't find any info, seems to be around that figure
#2 pick 2008 5 million
Banks 4.7
Cook 2.1
2009 pick+2010 pick (one of these wont be given to Minnesota, potentially both if we're awful) 3.5 million
So we have...
Wade 18.0
Hinrich 8.0
Noc 9.0
#2 pick 5.0
Banks 4.7
Cook 2.1
2009+2010 pick 3.5 (estimate)
4 cap holds 1.7 million
That would leave us with roughly 8million in cap space based on a 60 million cap. Wade, Hinrich, Noc, and the #2 pick this year would take up rougly 40 million right there no matter how you slice it. We wouldn't come close to having space for a max player.

^^If we have 8 million dollars in cap space with:
Beasley, Noc, Wade, and Hinrich on the roster, we won't need a max player.
All we will need is a center similar to Diop and some depth which would not be hard to come by because we will be a DOMINATING team.
You know how the Pistons have been in the ECF's for the past 6 years? That would be the Heat, only they probably would squeeze out 2 or 3 championships at least too.

Sorry to come late to the party:
Here is Chicago's production by position (PER)
PG 14.7 Worst
SG 15.5
SF 15.9
PF 18.3 Best
C 15.3

Paxson actually called out PG play during the season on the radio, saying that it needed to be improved.
I would be shocked if it wasn't Rose.

I believe Nocioni and Deng played a lot of PF last season which is why PF had the best production on the team. It had little to do with inefficient Tyrus Thomas or Drew Gooden who only played 18 games with the Bulls.
I do recall Paxson calling out the PG play of Hinrich and Duhon. In my opinion, going by Paxson's conservative and timid approach over the last few years when making (or not) transactions, I believe he'll go with the fan favorite Derrick Rose who just happens to be the safer pick with the highest reward.

Deng didn't play a lot of PF but Nocioni has always played a bit of PF for us. Although, Nocioni had a bad year going by PER (13.81).
Compare Hinrich and Duhon's PERs (13.25 and 11.28 respectively) to Drew Gooden and Tyrus Thomas'(17.61 and 14.78) and it's pretty clear how PG play was considerably worse last year... going by PER only of course.
Agreed that the Bulls would and should pick Rose.

Agree - especially after hyper Doug Collins becomes Head Coach! Those 2 will be like soul mates.
As Ben Gordon once said of Noc: Dont give him any Red Bull. He'll run right through that wall over there
Nocioni is also insurance in case Deng's salary demands become too outrageous. In that case. they would sign & trade Deng & keep Noc
