Herro also lacks significant upper body strength to keep bigger guards and forwards from barreling through him. On a positive note Herro like Reddick will have a long career in this league cause he can get off his own shoot and his shooting will continue to get better.
Another comparison i hear alot is Herro turning into Booker. I doubt that happens. Herro also lacks athletic explosion to the basket though he does have creative floaters and nifty moves. I can see Herro as a starter but needing to be surrounded with dogs on defense.
Many times last year our defense was exposed with Herro playing with Robinson and Nunn. Herro will carve his niche and the kid does have swag though i saw that missing a lot last year. Let’s not confuse star talent with his star personality.
Be realistic when accessing Herro’s true value in some of these trades. Any rebuttals to my breakdown of Herro are gladly welcome.
I'd say Herro at this age is somewhere in between what a young/healthy Mike Miller could have been and Devin Booker (at the same age). Hornacek came into the league much older, Herro is two years younger now than Hornacek was as a rookie so he certainly had a bit more polish.
There are some legitimate questions with his physical strength. If he really committed himself to the gym he could add a bit of muscle, we've seen Steph Curry do it. All in all I'm not opposed to moving anybody but it has to be the right move, I like THJ but I don't think he's the guy I'd move Herro for.

I don't know what to make of Herro yet, sample size isn't really definite. The bball IQ and lack of ability to get to the line scare me a little-- his scoring potential hinges on those things.
For Sexton or any other potential number 1 option I'm with it, but I don't believe in our ability to compete enough to trade Herro for good role players, not even Lowry-- as crazy as that might sound

After careful thought. I agree. Dragic and Okpala would seem more sensible.

Replace a bench player?
I listen to 5 reasons talk about not trading Herro when his value is currently low, the issue is that it could get lower, they still can sell him based on potential. If Miami is looking to bring in a starting PG(Lowry, Ball, Lillard, Sexton...) and bring back Duncan, there is NO ROOM for Herro in the starting lineup which is a problem for Miami because he only has 2 years left on his rookie contract and possibly would have to give him a lot with no real idea what he'd be as a starter in the near future(at that time).
BTW... Miami has options, they probably will have the option to still resign Oladipo and/or Nunn, maybe they go into the tax with the idea of making other moves to get back under the tax.
lol, 17/6/4 as a starter for a 1/4 of the season
You can't deflate a player's value for "team reasons" then circle back and say "oh he's a bench player".
If I'm watching everybody standing while Robinson runs around in circles next year I'm gonna choke somebody

Herro is a good role player so i get not making a redundant move. Especially a costly one. Herro for Sexton makes the most sense out of many of the other offers I have seen. We need to get young and exciting at the PG spot and sign a veteran backup maybe Rose with the MLE.

I would go for the Sexton move if it's available, it is what it is.

I'm not really deflating his value because I don't consider Herro a good player and am trying to explaine that with the probable current plan there looks to be no future plan for Herro to become a starter and with that, his value to Miami will be a lot less when it comes to deciding what to pay him for his 2nd contract. I would absolutely look to move him in a package for a proven good player.
BTW, Herro had an ORTG of 103 as a starter, only 9 points under the league average. I personally think Herro should shoot more to score to offset how bad he is on defense, to me, if he's not shooting/scoring while on the court he's probably being a huge negative for the team overall. You'll see me in game threads being happy about Herro shooting or complaining about him not shooting and being a negative on the court.
I'm with you on D.Robinson, he's a great 3pt shooter but he's only dropped about 13 points a game each of the last 2 years, sorry but that doesn't cut it when you're horrible on defense, can't create yours or someone else's shot.
I think Miami's FO is once again fell in love with players on hot streaks vs evaluating what they really were. It's why Miami has ended up handing out bad contracts to Waiters, J.Johnson, T.Johnson and Whiteside in somewhat recent years.

Herro's BB IQ changes depending on the situation.
As a ball handler, his IQ is poop. He over dribbles, routinely fails to identify if the defense is steering him into a trapping situation, commits unforced errors/ turnovers, and doesn't possess the dribbling skills or quickness to handle pressure.
Off the ball his IQ is much better. He has a good feel for the game in that he understands spacing and angles to help the primary handlers to create passing lanes. He's also good with the hockey assists and can quickly identify where the ball needs to be moved without the need to dribble.

Sexton and Love is an excellent combo then I would go after a trade for Ball.

Hearing that Ball might end up with the Knicks. Lavar wants him in a big market and the Knicks have the assets to pull it off. Also Love and Sexton will cost us our biggest trade pieces. The next step would be to sign Duncan and give Oladipo a value deal to rehab and come back as Duncan’s backup/6th man.

This team isnt very good.
Let me amend that, I don't think a Ball-Sexton backcourt can be very good.

Duncan Robinson,Victor Oladipo, and Max Strus
He's not a "Heat player," but Lou Williams will be a free agent.
Other MLE-or-less options would be Kent Bazemore, JJ Redick, Josh Hart (RFA), Patty Mills, Doug McDermott (potentially), or Wayne Ellington.

If Pels have that type of money to spend they are better off just keeping Ball.

Would be cool to get a look at a Bam/Love tandem in the Olympics. Maybe they become the new Harry and Larry best buds duo
