Would suggest not touching the general board since no one is going to rationally talk about these signings at this point.

Salary cap = 63.5

Wade = 13
Bosh = 17
Lebron = 17
Haslem = 2 (strech contract to 3 years)
Cole = 2
Napier = 1
Full MLE cap hold - renounced
Mcbob = 5
Granger (bi-annual exception )
Cap holds = 2.5

total = 59.5

Free cap space = 4 Mil.

Could net us another decent player. If we move Cole or get Haslem to take the vet min, or big 3 take bigger discount, could go up to 6-7 Mil for another player.

The problem with this plan/idea is that we cant use cap space AND exceptions. Cant have both. We either operate with cap space on all deals (including McRoberts and Granger) or we operate as a team ABOVE the cap and use those exceptions. So if you are eluding to the Big 3 taking less and McBob and DG taking deals that start at those salaries but aren't techinically "exceptions" then yes it could work but that is the only way.

Question becomes, does Lebron Wade and Bosh take considerably less for McRoberts, Granger and a 4-6 million dollar player. As much as I would love to say yes, I think it is unlikely.

As you can see by my numbers, I went with the free cap space rout. We'll have the bi-annual exception regardless, and Mcbob money fits into the free cap space.

Will the big 3 take this discount if it means we can get Gasol for 6 Mil? I think yes.

Never to the Lakers. Wade's Heat for life. He can get a shot at the title in Miami.

Wouldn't we have to renounce the bi-annual as well to get the cap space?

I'm asking not questioning.

That cuts it down low enough that I feel its more likely that Mcbob is the MLE guy and we are just capping out with everyone else's Bird rights than huge paycuts.

I'm hoping for the latter though

If LBJ and Bosh both abandon Miami (they won't), then Pat should give Wade a Kobe contract, full max out with all the trimmings and then try to compete with Wade at the helm as he rides out his career here.

Wade retires here.

Can you clarify this? All these journalists talking about two roads the Heat could take - either using cap space or exceptions. But why are they mutually exclusive?

Ira today was tweeting that this signing means Bosh won't be asked to take a pay cut, but if the Big 3 do come back at a discount, couldn't we still have space to add another guy under the cap (in addition to the 2 mil trade exception & re-signing Allen/Bird using early bird rights?)

Gasol will most likely go to the Lakers or Knicks. I don't think Heat will get him, he is considering the Thunder I think. He doesn't seem like a guy who would go to the heat.

Could Riley have had them agree to the dollar figures telling them that it's not for sure if it will be capspace or exceptions? In other words, Riley could still ask the Big 3 to take $3M discount to bring a Gasol like player?

Too lazy and tired to check but preaty sure the answer to the bi-annual is - no. We'll have it anyway.

I don't see the need to give any of Allen, Mario, Lewis, Oden anything more then the vet minimum. If they walk, that's fine.
Birdman it worth more, but if losing his bird rights (no pun intended) means we can land Gasol/Hill, well....

LOL that would be the stupidest thing on the planet. Wade gets a Kobe contract and we go back to the lottery. Wade will retire here but not giving him that type of money. That'd crazy and (Please Use More Appropriate Word) to even propose

let me preface this by saying I fully admit I am ignorant when it comes to our cap issues. I lucked out on guessing we'd get McRoberts because my expectations were way lower than most people's.

My question is can Riley sign Bosh and Lebron to an extended contract, but offer Wade the 2 year 40 million plus he was owed? I'm asking because I think they all opted out assuming they thought could get a bigger name. Now that it seems that isn't going to happen, It would almost seem better to pay Wade his 40 million over 2 years instead of owing him something like 13 million in his fourth year.

Rockets rushed trading Asif. They could have traded Asif, Lin and picks to Heat for (signed) Bosh. It would have been a win-win situation.

I'm not saying you are wrong but I thought to use that cap space the bi-annual needed to be renounced as well.

If that is the case and then we can pay our own guys whatever after using the exceptions I could see Allen and Chalmers getting more than the minimum since it wouldn't matter to us cap wise anyway. Same with Birdman.

I think Gasol/Hill are a pipe dream after signing Mcroberts. Hope you're right though.

Old guys closing in on late 30s. LOL

Gasol seems like a loyal guy, the type to remain with Kobe or go with Phil Jackson. The main point is he is likely to stick with what he knows and make the money. Riley is batting 0 right now. There is a reason why he cannot get impact players here. I also think Gasol will not sign unless he knows Lebron is there and it appears that Riley doesn't even know himself.
