Erik Spoelstra reminds me of Randy Shannon. Good at a certain thing (Shannon= Recruiter, Erik=Defense) but neither are good at many things. Both can't win big games and lacks the respect of there players. Both coaches’ can't motivate their players. Both have the trust of the higher ups.

Spo first year; Rookie HC who needs time, learning on the job. Bad Rotation, horrible game manager, good defense.
Spo Second year; Still learning, lack of talent, still needs to improve. Bad Rotation, horrible game manager, good defense.
Spo 3rd year; Still learning, lack of chemistry, still needs to improve.. Bad rotation, horrible game manager, good defense.

So at what point do we say “This guy doesn't have it". What has he improved on since his rookie year?

That's fair. Another similarity is that they are both hilariously bad speaker/motivators. Shannon spoke at my UM orientation a few years back and it was so bizarrely incoherent that at that point I had no doubt things would not go well for UM football while he was HC. It was so bad that I thought back on it when I transferred out a semester later. It's not easy to lead people at the very top of their profession. Not everyone can do it. I've seen nothing to believe either Shannon or Spo are capable of it.

Like Flashpoint said, it's all about Spo's ability to be a motivator. Spo isn't a motivator. He's a championship assistant coach (as he already proved), but he's not a champion coach. He can coach the Denver Nuggets to 50 win seasons all day, but he won't win a championship. Mark my word, HIF I would like you to document this: "Spoelstra will not win a championship as a head coach within the next 10 years." Save it as your profile quote. I don't even think he'll win a championship 20 years down the line but that's too soon to speak.

The Heat players have already lost faith in Spoelstra. It's only a matter of time before Riley steps down as head coach to seize the reigns once again.

So to all the Spo supporters, what's the reason Wade got 8 points again? Is it because he was having an offgame? The last time Wade shot this bad was a year ago against Orlando when he had 24 points since he was fouled every 2 seconds. Spoelstra is not capable of coaching this squad. I don't care how you try to spin it, 8 points for one of the best players in the game on 2-12 shooting is unacceptable.

I'm wondering though, if Spoelstra is fired then who is going to take the blame if the team loses or is sub fan expectations?

Scrap Paul Pierce crap and boring comments

I Wish KG is the one that commented and said "Spo is cancerous to your team and our league "

They will lose, but not to some of the losses like the Heat had thus far.

This team had a target on their back. Given the competitive nature of these guys, that should have been enough impetus to show a tenacity in their game. The loss to the Celtics was understandable. The loss to the Hornets was due to our horrific and zombie-like playing in the first half. This may be attributed to the coach. I, in the end, wasn't too bummed at that loss because we got our stuff together towards the end.

The loss against the Jazz should not have happened. We gave up a 22 point lead. Idk wtf happened. Actually, we weren't good in that game at all. The Jazz deserved to win it. Some people here attribute that loss to Millsap's great game, but that loss was due [ironically] to our defense. We shouldn't have been up by that much. Even in the first half, we were giving up open looks to people like Bell, for who, the ball went in and out. We got lucky, that was the reason we were up so high. Now this loss, WTF was going on. Our team just got beam in OT @ Home to a team which is loads less talented. That and, we are up against our supposed rival, at home. These guys embarrassed us in our last matchup. So, WTF were we like zombies out there? It was like OCT 26 all over again.

So, the point is, even with a great coach, it isn't like teams won't lose. But all the games which the Heat have lost thus far they shouldn't have lost, except for the 1st Boston game. Our offense looks like total crap. And we have the best, or second best, offensive talent in the league. This shouldn't be happening.

Here's a fun game we can play...

What happens first?

A) Mike Miller debuts for the Miami Heat
B) Eric Spoelstra is fired as Miami Heat Head Coach
C) One of LeBron/Wade calls out the other

After its all said and done and my blood pressure is a little lower, I am still not on the fire Spoelstra bandwagon. This is only because I have been watching the Heat for some years and this system is the same system we've always run. I know that it was passed down to Spo by Riley, and I know it will take Riley's approval to change it. So even if Spo had wanted to implement something else (which I doubt but still), I don't think its entirely his call. Even if we bring in another coach, but they are not allowed to implement a new offensive system, what good does it really do??

People talk about the lack of intensity they saw from us this game, but think about it. With or without intensity, how many easy looks did we actually get at the basket tonight? Especially in comparison to the Celtics? Everything was a mid range jumper, mostly contested, or a hard drive into traffic.

LOL at Spo asking for other people's suggestion
WTF was he doing being a student of Riley for more than a decade... I think he hasn't learn much.
What a waste of time and potential

Didnt RILEY said something bout Spo

"This game is now about younger coaches who are technologically skilled, innovative and bring fresh new ideas. That's what we feel we are getting with Erik Spoelstra. He's a man that was born to coach"

If you old Heat fans said that it's still the same crap from decades earlier, then Spo needs to get booted since it seems 80's coaching was far superior than this crap I'm seeing

Well let me ask you. Say we fired Spoelstra, and got maybe Byron Scott as coach. If he ran the same offensive system, how much better do you think we'd be?
