Hopefully they've taken in account that Butler is probably done with basketball after this current contract and with that, loosing a key piece of the team for nothing and having no real wiggle room to replace him(Bam max, Robinson paid, Herro getting paid, whoever they spend money on in 2021).

The clock is ticking with a very good player, and half his 4 year contract the FO has decided to limit the roster's talent by only offering 1-2 year contracts.

Here's an interview when early on in Philly, he's also mentioned this in other interviews...
Asked during Tuesday’s shootaround how he plans to perform in his mid-30s, when presumably he would be playing out the final years of his next deal, Butler instead set a deadline for his retirement.

“I don’t plan on playing this game when I’m 35 years old,” Butler said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey. “So I’m not even worried about that. I’ll be done with this game before I’m 35.”

Wait, so how much before he turns 35 on Sept. 14, 2024? “That’s between me and whatever I tell myself later on,” added Butler. “But, I’m telling you right now, 35, I’m trying to be done before then.”

He’s a 6’7 athletic wing with a 7’3.5” wingspan who plays great defense but doesn’t shoot, ball handle or pass well.

His player comparison is PJ Tucker. Hopefully he can work on that corner 3 point shot.

So is this going to be the new narrative, that the front office has decided to "limit" the roster's talent? Dude, literally everybody knew the game plan was going to be maximizing cap space for 2021. This is not a new development, all year we knew. If anybody thought they were going into this FA by signing guys to multi year deals or trading for players that jeopardized 2021 cap space, they just weren't paying attention.

This is nothing new tho, we gave up two years of Wade's prime to build the big 3 and we got 2 titles out of it and four finals trips. Wade was a top 3 player in the league at the time and by waiting for 2010 FA he really only had one season left at that level.

If you're going to make win now moves you have to be sure that you're actually gonna win now. What moves did you want the Heat to make this off season? Let's say we threw caution to the wind and offered long term contacts, what is that really netting us?

Goran back plus maybe Gallo while giving Bam his max extension? Is that a championship team? Is that team beating the Lakers? It's definitely a better team than what we have right now but at what cost? The Heat have maximum flexibility now to both try and win now, to sign a max FA next off season whether it be Giannis or Kawhi, and we also have the assets and perfect contracts to trade for any star that may come available. We're on the right track as always. We're already a contending team and Jimmy has only been here for one season. That's way more than those 08-09 and 09-10 Heat teams ever were.
Don’t let us get one. — Nikola Jovic

Dru Smith very lucky he got that 500k this year. He should invest and manage a subway after all this-MettaWorldPanda

Paul Eboua is a great athlete with length and good motor, who has the tools to become a game changer with his defensive ability … At the same time though he is raw, with question marks on his feel for the game, basketball I.Q and offensive potential … There are many intriguing aspects and some red flags … At the end of the day, whether he will become a valuable role player or just a journeyman is up to him and how he develops a work ethic …
