Re: Random Be Safe Papis Thoughts; XVIIII
Had a dream that I just had two kids- about two days ago. Chit got me laggin'. It was so real, can't shake the feeling that I phucked up
I think I named them but I can't remember their names. Feel like I'm abandoning them; It's real after they're named. Never felt as much conviction from a dream
Maybe it's because I watched summer camp island with my nephew and actually liked it. New Christopher Robin commercials had me feeling some type of way too
Looks ill man

He’s really my favorite late night guy. Kimmel is great, Fallon is unbearable, and Corden is a one trick pony.

So, I'm sending all the Miami/Florida people on this forum because me and my girl chosed our vacation for next year and it will be... Miami !
So my fiancée is an ex travel agent so she already her own benchmark and gave a 10 pages document about stuff todo there etc...Then I was like hey I'm a RealGMer for 8 years so it's time to have a return on investment and ask my dear fellow Miami forum fans what's good to do at their home
So some random thoughts/questions (It already would be gold if I could have some answer):
- It will be our first time in the US !!! During 2 weeks
- Our idea is to reside in Miami, rent a car then do all the rest by ourself.
- We absolutely hate All Incluse resort stuff or guided tour.
- We're used to Airbnb when we travel (so any idea for an ideal location ?)
- We are roughly around 30 yo me and her. So we're open on any night stuff to do (even tho we aren't into clubbing that much anymore) ?
- We would like to go to Key West (is it really an interesting place in itself ?)
- Also Orlando for Universal/Disney one day or two as my girl is really really into that type of stuff.
- I want to do a ride of your guys typical boat that I forget the name ! Just like in movies![]()
- Sorry for the cliché, but I will not go out of the state of Florida as long as I didn't smoke a cigar with a random old ass cuban.
- We would like to go during any month of March/April/May (on a weather level which one is the better)
- How much for decent NBA tickets for going to see the Heat ?
- At the end of those 2 weeks I want to feel like "Damn, really I saw the real South Florida/Miami"
I'm open on any tip, anything to do, anything to avoid etc...
I know I sound like a guy who talk to a travel agent but hey... I rather ask the people
Since it is your first time in the US then I warn you not to underestimate how big this place is and how far apart places are. Don't get any ideas of driving to Los Angeles "in a couple days" from the east coast. I say that because I know of some Europeans and Australians that have made that mistake. But you only mentioned Florida so you should be good.
In the Miami area I'd say definitely go to South Beach. You wanna see the place everyone talks about right? See the people, visit the shops. Just don't tell anyone back home how small it is
Honestly, I'm from here and I've only been there a few times
In downtown Miami is Bayside which is like a touristy shops area. You can take a boat tour and see where all the rich people live. Next to Bayside is American Airlines Arena. You're going to want to a picture of the place where Lebron got punked by JJ Barea.
If you want to go shopping then Aventura Mall is a place to go. Its one of the country's biggest malls. In an upscale area. I always see tourists in the Apple Store buying up stuff to take back home. The Dolphin Mall is another place I see tourists at. It is an outlet mall so things are supposed to be cheaper...but I doubt it lol.
If you ask me you need to go to the Everglades National Park. The main entrance is down near the beginning of the Florida Keys (but don't expect to see it all and go to the keys on the same day). There is another entrance further north called Shark Valley (I think about 30 miles west of where the Dolphin Mall is). There you can rent a bike and ride the 15 mile trail. Or take a tram tour.
Yes you want to go to Key West. Enjoy the drive down there. See the scenery. The Atlantic Ocean on one side of the road and the Gulf of Mexico on the other side. The Seven Mile Bridge. Lots of little places to stop and take pictures or eat along the way. Lots of people go down to Key West to see the sunset then drive back. In the Keys there is a place called John Pennekamp state park where you can take tour in a glass bottom boat. http://pennekamppark.com/glassbottom%2Dboat/
Orlando is about a 3 hour drive north. I assume you'll have a hotel there (there are a billion hotels there to choose from) and not expect to drive back to Miami after your theme parks. You can. I've done it, but it sucks driving back at night when you're tired. Maybe spend a few days there at Disney World and Universal.
Near Orlando is Kennedy Space Center. You can see some of the space ships and take a tour there. I used to drive up to see Space Shuttle Launches. People would line up on the roads and get a clear view.
If you still have time you can drive up to St Augustine. Its the oldest city in the US. It has a cool 500 year old Spanish fort and about a 5 hour drive back to Miami
There are museum type things to see in the Miami area like Vizcaya and the Planetarium too.
I'm sure other people have ideas. I hope you enjoy your stay here
As far as where to stay for your Airbnb. Maybe someone else can give advice. Just don't go to the cheapest place that might be in a bad or unsafe area.

France is a large country too:
Universal is at least 2 days and they have specials on a 2-day pass. Anyone with a year pass can buy you discounted tickets too. PM me offline if you are interested, and I'll find out how much they cost and you can compare with buying in advance through your wife's agency. I might charge you a beer (probably a Duff's Dry at the park
It's crazy to try to cram three parks into one day.
Also, if you come in September/October (I know you are thinking Spring, but I add this in case your plans change), Halloween Horror Nights is a must. Pure craziness and party time with insanity.
Key West is a tiny town at the end of a long series of bridges that end when the chain of islands almost runs out. It's a cool place to party and hang out but you should time it to hit an event. There is a Key West celebration usually the first week of March where you can find the cigar and Cuban in Gato Village Pocket Park. The beaches there are less than spectacular especially compared to Miami and the area north of St. Augustine or (incredibly good) Clearwater or other Gulf beaches (unless you are surfing--there is no surfing on the Gulf.) If you decide to go to Key West, however, I have two recommendations:
(1) I went there for Carnaval once and was pleasantly surprised with the community enthusiasm for costumes, dancing, and music (almost all salsa or old hippie bands--the worst you can imagine.) Try to time your trip there with an event. Fantasy Fest is fun, but (again) it's in October (see Halloween Horror Nights above
(2) There is an abandoned prison island off the coast where you can snorkel/dive away from the tourist trap industry. It's a National Park:
https://floridakeystreasures.com/the-tropical-island-prison-older-than-alcatraz-fort-jefferson/
https://www.drytortugas.com/
(3) Weather: March-April and October-November are warm and pleasant. May is fine too, but Europeans are not going to generally enjoy June-September. It's hot and humid and there are hurricanes (the season actually ends in November but they get less common as the year winds down.) December through February can be warm some days or not depending... If you are around on New Year's or January, check for live bands playing small clubs, because sometimes you strike gold.
(4) You can get decent tickets for the Heat in the 100s (we were 12 rows behind the bench) for less than $100 each. You can get much cheaper tickets in the upper bowl though and still have a great time and good (not great) view. Those are about $65. Playoff tickets are MUCH more expensive. Preseason tickets are sometimes free (my son has gotten a bunch of students from an English school in for free--I don't know how though.) Seeing the Heat in AAA is going to be HUGE fun for you. The Heat are a decent basketball team but the act is pure class and even if we are a crap team, they are going to all bust their asses for you.
(5) If you go to Everglades National Park, go to Shark Valley. You can rent a bicycle and ride on a road that they built for exploring petroleum (there wasn't enough to be profitable --- REJOICE!). It's now the best way to interact with alligators who are actually on the trail as you ride past. Don't drive over their tales please.

Great luck on your travels!

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^
