Wait was Paul and Heat issue about his contract not the actually trade right? Were is Contract he better than me on these contract issues.

Adrian Wojnarowski: “When Oklahoma City got him this summer, their plan was to try to flip him somewhere else. They hoped Miami would be willing to talk about a deal and that never got anywhere. But maybe the Heat get off to a bad start… Maybe they look at this again. And other teams.”

Miami not expecting to land Chris Paul
Barry Jackson: Big difference in how OKC&Heat view Paul trade, and why Heat isn’t expecting it to materialize,at this point.OKC thinks it’s giving Heat great asset& shouldn’t need to entice Miami. Miami greatly respects Paul but feels like it’s doing OKC favor(taking big $)&should be compensated

Barry Jackson: As we reported in mid July, Heat interest is lukewarm. Heat would need to get draft picks back and have comfort level that Paul would opt out of 44 M in summer of 21 so Miami can pursue top free agent.

Was it possible for the Heat if they were to give in on some of their demands to have both Paul, Iggy and Gallinari?

PG: Paul - Nunn
SG: Butler - Herro
SF: Robinson - Iggy
PF: Gallinari
Ce: Adebayo

Before the season, maybe. Halfway through season no, CP3 was in the MVP race that season and the next 2 seasons. I kept posting about how well CP3 played.

OKC was just looking to offload CP3 since they got 2 1st in that Westbrook trade, for whatever reason Miami thought they should have gotten assets at first, later it seems they got past that and the sticking point was CP3s player option which ate up the cap space that Miami's FO thought they were going to use on Giannis.

I'm not able to find the right tweet yet, I did at least find this which shows Miami having some issues with that player option of CP3s. It advanced far enough were the 3rd year of CP3s contract was being discuessed.

Yes, the Rockets traded 2 1st and CP3 for Westbrook who just averaged a triple double for the season. The reason Westbrook was available was because George asked out and was traded to the Clippers.

He signed here to be the lead guy. If he didn’t want that he could have signed with a more ready made team. They’ve had a few cracks at a title and just havent gotten it done, but its been a mutually beneficial partnership despite the narratives people are pushing. Jimmy has gotten to compete at levels he’s never been on the professional level (and has been well compensated in doing so) and as an organization we have gotten to enjoy being relevant and competing at the highest level. We have got to stop painting this situation as one extreme or the other and acknowledge/appreciate that grey area.

I get all that and appreciate the ride...but can you honestly say you think the team went all in to try and win with Jimmy while that window was there. I can't. Now it's too late he knows it and so do we. He wants the money and we don't want to give it, all parties know a title isn't realistically at the end of this negotiation.

This is all I can find back in 2019 at this point, some tweets have been removed since then. What's funny is that he played so well (which he did in Houston when not playing with Harden) he declined his player option that Miami wanted him to decline to sign another big contract.

Paul contract was massive but it would have been worth it. Can you find what the possible trade would have been player wise?

Signing Duncan to a 5 yr 90 million dollar deal has also been a nasty crutch. Nobody likes the mention the down stream effect of how many players making a lot less that we had to let go or could not sign cause that close to 20 million per contract weighed down the cap and tax for so many years. Could not even give him away without having to pay a team to take that on.

The bubble team was a championship caliber team off the strength of the Iggy/Crowder trade. Is that an all-in move? Maybe not in Heat twitter terms but they had enough to win if they were healthy. Hindsight being 20/20, the player or move (that we had the assets for and probably could have gotten) that got away wasnt KD, Dame, or CP3. It was Kyrie, again in hindsight his value was so low that was the worthy gamble that might alter the trajectory of this group.

Not attacking you but I see this phrase a lot lately. What do you mean by all-in? The Heat trade most of their assest when they traded for Lowry and Oladipo? Only other assest that wasn’t dealt was Herro. What would a all-in trade look like

Heat were over the cap when they resigned Duncan? They used his bird rights. Who did the Heat miss out on? That’s the summer they signed Tucker and Morris.

For a lot of the players that got away. Our “All in” offer was never going to be beat real all in offers. We also got screwed handing out a really bad contract to Duncan. Now we have another one in Rozier.

Yes they were over the cap and most likely bidding against themselves. It’s been a garbage contract for every year it’s been on the cap. Nobody in the NBA has wanted to touch it.

So if the Heat didn’t resign Duncan they could have gotten DeRozan? How?

It’s a down stream effect throughout the years that his 20 million has held them from making a lot of moves. They tried to dump his contract this offseason but teams wanted to be paid and Miami was the one asking for the asset like the pompous front office they are still not admitting the mistake.

You are making no sense. Either you resign Duncan or you don’t. They could not utilize Duncan cap space in free agency because they were over the cap. The only thing they could do is either resign Duncan or nobody. They were not losing anything. They used their cap space to sign Tucker and Morris.

Through out the years effected MLE opps, kept us into the tax, had to allow players to walk cause of cap issues like Tucker. I’m making plenty of sense. We would have been in a much better place if we let him walk. It was a desperate move cause we had his bird rights and thought we had a great trade contract in our back pocket. WRONG!
