I read somewhere that the lakers can offer a max salary of 22 mil to Carmelo but only a max salary of 20 to Lebron. Why is Melos Max salary higher then Lebron if both were drafted in the same year?

In short, because Anthony had a higher salary last year.

LeBron James is seeking a maximum salary next season to stay in Miami. Based on his $19.1 million salary last season, James' max for '14-'15 is approximately $20.7 million.

Anthony, who made more than James last season, is thus eligible for a higher max -- $22.5 million -- in the first year of his new contract.

It's because of the pay cut LeBron took in 2010. Max is last year's salary + 5%, LeBron taking that cut reduced his salary in each coming year.

And so far, we only have the contracts of Josh McRoberts ($5.3 million), Danny Granger ($2.1 million), Justin Hamilton ($98,036), Shabazz Napier ($1,032,200), and Norris Cole ($2,038,206) who might not be with the team for too long.
