Boogie might not make that much now but he will ask for the max when his contract is up. & that max will be higher then Whitesides .

Another thing those who do not like Pat & the HEAT franchise can easily find another franchise to like. Or follow their man crush player to another team.

Ive been a fan since 88, & every player i have liked has retired already & im still a fan of my HEAT franchise & always will be.

May Pat Riley live for ever.

Thank goodness you can dislike Pat Riley's moves and even Riley himself and still be a fan of the HEAT franchise. You'll find that many Heat fans outside of Realgm, which is basically a Riley fan site, do so every single day. Fortunately having a man crush on people in your team's front office is not a requirement of Heat fandom.

When Pat Riley retires, may you go on to support him in whatever retirement activities he chooses because he's certainly not going to be in the front office for much longer, let alone live for ever.

I dont know how old you are little lady, but for those of us that have been around since the 70s have seen the game evolve over the years, & Pat Riley has been the best thing that has happened to Miami sports since Don Shula.

Yeah I was definitely around 20 years away from even existing in 1970  . But I was just offering a counter to your post. I don't think the idea that you have to worship Riley or even be a Riley fan in order to be a Heat fan is remotely true, yet I see it said so much on here.

And, for what its worth, my daddy was around in the 70s, and he agrees with me :)

Considering that your daddy IS Dwyane Wade, that's to be expected.

We are all just human & no one bats 100%. But Shula did what no one else has ever done. Him & Riley will be known threw out south florida sports for ever.

But Riley is the HEAT. He has been pulling the strings since he's been here. Now you tell me you were a fan of the HEAT when the starting line up was Rony Seikaly, Billy Thompson, Roy Sparrow, Kevin Edwards, & Jon Sundvold ( before Pat came aboard ) then you can definitely say you were a HEAT fan, while not being a fan of Pat.

I my self started watching Basketball because Kareem Abdul Jubal was a disciple of Bruce Lee (huge Bruce Lee fan at the time) so i started watching Laker games, till 1988 when Miami finally got an NBA franchise.

This season should be fun, & i expect Pat to pull off a solid trade before the seasons up. At least i hope so.

I just don't agree with your "Pat Riley is the Heat" claim and I know plenty of people that don't either. I respect your opinion though, and that you've been respectful in expressing it. Not too pleased with the way this off season has gone (I don't think that's a surprise to anyone anymore  ) but I'm excited to see what we look like next year too. Good or bad it'll be different, and that's always interesting.

What i mean by that is that every thing you like about the HEAT, Pat had his hands in it. The good, & even the bad. Thats all. But of course we are all entitled to our own opinions, so its perfectly fine what you think. :)

If you were to envision a time when Pat leaves the Heat franchise, I'm sure you'll agree that the franchise will feel different after. The Heat will lose a part of its identity. That's the impact he has and may be when the other poster meant. Not putting words in this mouth, per se, but that's how I feel about it at least. The team we all root for has an iconic figure in the sport running our team. Hit or miss I root for the team. And this team in the past 20 years hasn't seen dark days like teams my other friends root for. I'm cool with what comes next....

They were right. Would you be OK with Spo coaching the Heat another 20 years if he never won another championship? I don't think so.

I'm not sure about that.

People think that just because Riley like Spo it means Spo will replace him the front office?

1. Spo will still be very young in his coaching career when Pat walks away. You don't even know if he'll want to stop coaching.

2. I'm not sure Spo has that cut throat personality needed to head a front office.

3. We're a winning organization, we're not wasting time on learning curves for the GM. I can see us luring in someone like Sam Presti, a successful GM that wants to make the jump to a big time org. Imagine his drafting with our city and tradition. :o

Le Batard mentioned at the start of free agency, when word of Spo's contract extension leaked, that Riley's already begun grooming Spo as his successor. That Spo's transition into eventually assuming Riley's front office duties has been gradually taking place for some time. Said the makeup of the organization is clearly being shaped in Spo's image from coaching staff, scouting, player development, style of play, etc.

He said anyone hoping Spo might be gone from the HEAT in the near future will be sorely disappointed. That not only is Spo staying on as head coach... he'll continue getting increased responsibility within the organization and will ultimately be running basketball operations whenever Riley finally decides to retire.

Spo is still young and has tasted success under Riley.

He will eventually develop a chip on his shoulder to "win rings on his own" when Riley is gone. Spo has a competitive personality and will learn to be more cutthroat.

If you think about it, it's a very similar storyline between Riley and Spo. First coaching gig, win multiple championships while coaching Hall of Famers....... then eventually assume more responsibility and build your own team. Able to recruit players with the credibility of several championship rings, and can tell stories of how he coached HOF'ers...... James, Wade, Ray Allen, to championships etc..... or how he was part of the assistant coaching staff of Shaq, Payton, 06 team. Just like how Riley does now with stories of the Showtime Lakers.

It can work. I'm optimistic. In 2026, 10 years from now, Spo will be giving a recruiting pitch to some 25 year old superstar who was a little kid watching the Heat teams win rings and idolized the Big 3, and Spo will have stories for em, and he'll throw his 3 championship rings on the table.

Weber should spend every waken moment this summer working on his outside shot (3's) and finishing (floaters).

Already great defender,
very good ball handle
good mid range jumper
good passing.

If he improves his weakness he's a starting NBA PG.

the first part is not surprising. taking over for riley in a front office capacity? not sure how i feel about that. Spo doesnt have 10 rings to throw on a table. i hope riley lands one last star player before he retires.

Return to Miami Heat
