He referred to Slovenia as Yugoslavia to parody you calling Muhammad Ali "Cassius".

R.I.P. Ali. Not a boxing fan but the guy's worth transcended the sport. Glad we celebrated him in a way during the Playoffs.

Muhammad Ali's story about how he converted to Islam is both heart-wrenching and uplifting.

His opposition to the war in Vietnam is also remarkable. He was very articulate and his sense of humor was as indomitable as his presence in the ring. He died with his real name.

How is that not the same thing ?

Were the Slovenians pick the Name of Yugoslavia ? Then why did they fight for their freedom (even if it was a 10 days war) ?
Are you ok if people call you "Yugo" ?
Muhammad Ali fought for his own freedom and he didnt want to be called by Cassius Klay, a name his family didnt chose.

Keep direspecting him, it's ok for you to be called Slovenian but not for Ali

GOTCHA !

Wow. Education time, I guess.

The Ten-Day-War in Slovenia was hardly about the idea of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia itself. Independece was declared because Slobodan Milosevic, who came to power in Serbia, was leading the country nowhere. To keep it simple, think democracy vs. communism.

Most older people in Slovenia would be more than okay being called a "Yugo" (which is actually a car, but let's assume you meant a "Yugoslavian"). In times of Josip Broz Tito, Yugoslavia was a country of prosperity and economical success. Everybody loved it. But if people called me a "Yugoslavian" I would feel indifferent. It would be the same as you being called Gallo-Roman instead of French. It's not offensive, it's just ... Weird that somebody is that wrong/uninformed.

Clay chose his new alias Mohammad Ali because he changed his religion and because his old name was a reminder of all the horrors of racial segregation. Although racism might not be completely gone, it's certainly been supressed from civilized world and thus there is no need to avoid his real name anymore. In fact, it should be used just to show how far a person with that name and skin color has come despite adversity.

Wow, ignorance at his best !

Do you consider Slovenia as a civilized world ? How do you explain there are so much neo-nazi groups there ?

Do the Gipsy have the same right as a Slovenian even if they are born there ? Are they well considered ?
About America :

We Are Not Cured': Obama Discusses Racism In America With Marc Maron

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/06/22/416476377/we-are-not-cured-obama-discusses-racism-in-america-with-marc-maron

Obama: I always tell young people in particular: 'Do not say that nothing's changed when it comes to race in America — unless you've lived through being a black man in the 1950s, or '60s, or '70s. It is incontrovertible that race relations have improved significantly during my lifetime and yours, and that opportunities have opened up, and that attitudes have changed. That is a fact.
What is also true is that the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in almost every institution of our lives — you know, that casts a long shadow. And that's still part of our DNA that's passed on. We're not cured of it.
Maron: Racism.
Obama: Racism. We are not cured of it. And it's not just a matter of it not being polite to say '****' in public. That's not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It's not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don't overnight completely erase everything that happened 200-300 years prior.
So what I tried to describe in the Selma speech that I gave, commemorating the march there, was, again, a notion that progress is real, and we have to take hope from that progress. But what is also real is that the march isn't over, and the work is not yet completed. And then our job is to try in very concrete ways to figure out, what more can we do?"

It's funny when you said it was Democracy vs communism and then you praised the Yugoslavia from Tito as it was a Communist republic (even if it was not the same system as in USSR).
I wrote "Yugo" as a short name of Yugoslavia - "Jap" for Japanese, there are many example...
If you ask the old people who lived in USSR, they will tell you, they prefer the old time too even if they have more freedom now in Russia, yes even with Poutine as their President.

As i said, he hated to be called by the name you are using, but you keep using trying to be smart, you are not ! He would have changed his name anyway not just because of Islam.

“My conscience won’t let me go shoot my brother, or some darker people, or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America,” he said at the time. “And shoot them for what? They never called me ****, they never lynched me, they didn’t put no dogs on me, they didn’t rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father. … Shoot them for what? How can I shoot them poor people? Just take me to jail.”

Keep direspecting a dead man, you are a smart boy

Later, Ali announced: “Cassius Clay is a slave name. I didn’t choose it and I don’t want it. I am Muhammad Ali, a free name – it means beloved of God, and I insist people use it when people speak to me.”
