Leverage for what? Knicks have cleared the space. Mavs want him back. He already has his bidding war. What would a team with no cap space add to the proceedings? Does he want a piece of the team? His dad gets a raise from the Knicks?

This is about avoiding tampering or he wants to know if the Heat would trade Lowry and make him the starting PG. Jimmy let the Heat know he wanted to be in Miami when the Rockets were the perceived favorites and then the Heat moved heaven and earth to get it to happen. Brunson would have to give the Heat the word and they would make it happen again.

Jimmy Butler should never be a GM, I see why they compare him to Michael Jordan

I wasn't talking about Jimmy getting Kyle here. I was talking about the Rockets being the perceived favorites to get Jimmy. They had Paul and Harden and they looked at Jimmy as the final piece. Had a trade worked out with Philly. He chose Miami and the Heat worked out the details.

That’s still jimmy’s buddy at the end of the day, terrible decision.

Leak Heat interest then sign Knicks day 1 to make it seems the rumors were spread out

Then you have to ask yourself why Riley and Spo would allow it? You're pissing off your current PG all to be used by Jalen Brunson of all people. Not like he's a superstar where you take the meeting no matter what.

Cultivate a relationship with Brunson's agent. Not sure who else he reps but it's always good to develop amicable relationships with agents. We clearly have a contentious relationship with Klutch and that's only been limiting for us

Cultivating a relationship with an agent isn't worth the fallout of pissing Lowry off after apparently telling him you wouldn't trade him for Kyrie and then along with that helping the Knicks avoid tampering. Specifically just one offseason after the NBA took a 2nd rounder away from you.

This heavily contradicts what Ice leaked to us today. Said they were hoping to settle on Lowry and Dipo or some package of Lowry basically today.

Would feel better about our big man offense if we got Collins. Instead of the Bam bizarro blackhole offense we have down low now.

Regarding Bamba, a Mavs fan started a thread on the Magic board asking "What does Mo Bamba play like?"

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2191791

Some responses from Magic fans:

He plays like 7 feet tall shooting guard who has no post game on offense, and can block shots but is a pushover on defense. Overall he is not very agile and has awful spacial awareness.

Like a dumb Channing Frye.

Anthony Randolph

He plays like a guy who doesn't care.

He plays like a person who only plays basketball because he's tall.

decent backup C for second half teams of the league.

low motor and low basketball i.q.are his insurmountable flaws.

What does Bamba play like? He plays like he would rather be taking a nap.

Not exactly the most raving of reviews

"Dumb Channing Frye" lmao

Or maybe they discussed this with Lowry and explained their intentions. I feel like it should be obvious to everyone (including Lowry) that this is a sham meeting taking place solely to avoid tampering charges

Miami was waiting for Brooklyn to remove the need for a Pick, they want to give up no assets outside of players currently signed. They need those assets for the big trade. Brooklyn is not gonna swap kirie for Lowry and a filler only.

If we are being fair to Bamba though he has been part of one of the more disfunctional franchises for the last 4 years. And the first year he is given a chance to start he shows skills that would compliment next to Adebayo well with the outside shot and blocking. He has the physical tools to improve defensively especially under the great developmental staff the Heat have. A lot of Magic fans already formed their opinion of Bamba prior to this year and once people have a concept of a player in mind they will cherry pick plays that highlight the already assumed traits be they positive or negative.

It’s possible the Brunson team spoke with Dallas management and they straight up said if you want to leave we’ll take Lowry back in a S&T if he chooses us. Just a hypothetical to make sense of it all.

No doubt Pat set up the meeting to convince Brunson to sign a short term deal so he'd be available in a couple of years when we have money available.

Yeah one Magic fan did say this in response to the Mavs fan and I do believe the same would apply to us:

He has some upside in offenses where all the thinking is done by someone else (like your team), and there is good perimeter defense to channel players into him. (you have some upside there).
For us he is basically useless imo.

This correlates to Item#4 I posted last night as an update.

***Update

Just got of the phone with my boy, lots of new tidbits of information.

1. PJ is not pushing any agenda to get the full midlevel right off the bat, opening in free agency if it hurts the teams ability to get better, however if Miami cannot show any promising trades or scenarios he will hope to get it. Everything is still looking at him resigning, the twitter gossipers are pushing an agenda. Philly was involved in some packets with his name and as a third team which they were trying to get in on Miami off loading some dollars during the Irvin storm.

2. Nets still keeping options open with Miami as a line of communication, however the senior staff want nothing of the sort. Too much of a liability for expiring and Brooklyn is still asking for Herro & Lowry + Picks tentatively. He said that it smells like Durant has not enjoyed how this whole process was handled with too much being leaked by Brooklyn for leverage and could still potentially ask out mid season if they don't turn the ship around. (which Miami wants to have the ability to get in on this later but giving PJ that contract will hurt us with that possibility).

3. The player Miami is targeting with the big trade is still in play however another team is now in the mix and has one up their previous offer which may force us to give up more in this trade. Miami is all in however as they feel this is the way and are waiting until tomorrow afternoon to see what else shakes free. The player also has this team as one of their top destinations so is gonna be a betting war.

4. There was an additional packet from a West team sent in this afternoon but it went to a different team however it was high caliber, as they have Andy involved on making something work. Gonna try and get more scoop on this tomorrow if he can.

5. There are now 2 possibilities of offloading Duncan for another player of similar value, and another for picks and a expiring which could be bought out. Depending on where the trades are heading Miami has the ability to gain some assets to sweetened one of our bigger deals.

6. He now knows the number Dipo's camp is looking for its a shorter deal and a lot less than Lowry's deal as he originally heard. 2 year deal at 12 Mil per, They want a prove it deal somewhere as they are confident Dipo can regain form and go for a long multi year deal a bigger dollars later. Miami feels they can get that down to 8 or 9, as Dipo likes it here and feels confidant he can earn the starting spot with a full offseason.

If we were to get Bamba, he'd have to develop a lot. Magic fans are fine letting him go. He's not the perfect answer, but he could be better with us than he ever could be with Orlando.
