His career average in the playoffs is nearly 22 ppg but took nearly 19 shots.
Right now, at SG, Herro has a career playoffs average of 14.3 ppg on 12.7 shots.
DeRozan isn't a good defender, but he's better than Herro is and can play the 2-4, he played PF in San Antonio.
It's a short term move to get DeRozan for an upgrade on the roster, this isn't a long-term option, maybe Miami can time the older player's contracts to be expiring all at the same time to have a chance to make some big moves in free agency also S&Ts for a soft rebuild around Bam.
Why do we need to compare everyone to Herro?
DeRozan is not a fit on this team, he operates in the mid range and is only effective when he can draw fouls, it's absolute anti chemistry with Jimmy on the court. What are they going to take turns trying to shoot 20+ FTs between the two each game?
Come man 35y old DeRozan is just non sense, at this point trading Jimmy and developing the young talent is the right move.
It's hilarious to me that ppl think 35y DeRozan is going to make this team competetive against the stacked Boston/NY/76ers team.
One of our problems has been offense and he helps with that. Last post season we were in most games until we gave up 1 bad run to Boston in those games and that was without Jimmy and Rozier. Adding Jimmy, Rozier, and Derozan would he a major help
Having Derozan also helps take attention away from Jimmy. Boston and NY are loaded with wing defenders. Having that additional scorer allows for more single coverage than doubles.
Cool story but where is the defense?

I don't think Derozan fits well with our team. Him and Jimmy have approximately the same shot profile, and Bam has also historically done most of his work from mid-range as well. Not to mention, by acquiring Derozan we'll essentially be playing large chunks of small-ball basketball yet again with DD at the 4 spot most likely.
I am a fan, but I highly question the fit and I don't think it's the right move, especially if we have to dedicate 3 additional years to it via S&T.
I don't want the Raptors old junk. Ex-Raptors I would have been interested in are Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby. They would have fit extraordinarily well with our team, imo.

We are 7 million deep into the 1st apron with 3.8 million worth of wiggle room to the second apron. We have no chance at a S&T here. We need to dump salary

All we have right now is enough to sign one vet minimum in order to stay under the second apron and that one signing actually cost double because of the tax. If we don't find a way to get rid of Herro or Duncan's salary or take much less back in trade we are absolutely destined to run this back

Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby both got MAX CONTRACTS lol.
I see the argument for Derozan, he will be our Jimmy for the regular season. If he shows anything in the playoffs it just gravy, that way we keep Jimmy fresh for the playoffs. For the millionth time we have been a play-in team twice in a row, we need regular season help desperately. The fact that they have the same shot profile makes it easy for the team to transition to the playoffs just replace him with Jimmy and having him take Jimmy place when he gets a breather.
Now is that a good argument? Thats a good question. What's the cost to get him? How many years does he want. Remember if we dont make the playoffs and become a lottery team this year, not only does the OKC pick become unprotected but so does the Hornets pick from the Terry trade, so we do have strong incentive to make a move and make sure we are in the playoffs.

Trading Duncan and a 2nd rd pick for let's say Schroder get's them at or near the first apron again. Then they could release Orlando Robinson and drop completely under to execute a S&T using Herro's contract.

Re: Miami Heat Offseason Thread Vol. 3: Fraudfather Snoozin
We were high on Derozan a few years back if I remember correctly hoping he would take the MLE. He didnt.
It would have to be a sign and trade- and given salaries, it would have to be Terry, Herro or Duncan. Really is no other option.
Terry is the only PG on the roster. For how much we have held out for Herro, Demar would be a disappointing end. And with Duncan we would need to attach at least 1 pick.
So yea, Im pumped for him to go to LAL.

I think Riley is going to stand pat. There is no move we can make that will get us on the same level as top teams in the East and he’s going to avoid desperate moves. All we can do is run it back and compete, probably make the playoffs, and hope for a miracle. I really hope we come out looking strong during first half of year so Riley and Jimmy can get on same page and hurry up with extension.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

Not to burst your little bubble, but the Bulls have only traded with the Heat twice, and the last time was 23 years ago.

Standing Pat feels like the front office is playing Russian roulette. We are one injury from being a lottery team. If we become a lottery team this upcoming season, we have to give up two unprotected picks to OKC and the Hornets. Fun times.

Better than offering Haywood this money I guess. Once again not sure how we offer this without getting rid of one of Herro or Duncan's salary. 12 million is certainly a bargain compared to those two.

Yeah the 12 mil is a good deal but what would that mean for us from a cap standpoint? Wouldn't that push us to the 2nd apron?

Derozan deal sounds complicated.
A shuffle of the chairs move that I would be interested in is Duncan for Marcus smart's expiring. We get a little more cap flexibility getting out of Duncan's deal a year early, and in a reserve capacity Smart could have a PJ Tucker esque impact, He's just 30, Tucker was 36 here. For roughly the same dollar amt that may be a better use of the cap than Duncan, especially if Swider can be as good as they think
