Sorry but Gabe is not a NBA player and we are putting Herro in a bad position if we expect him to play in that role. He's just not a pg or playmaker. Herro should focus on scoring and not being a defensive liability.

Management remains committed to a position-less team. It’s a system that appeared to be successful during the Lebron years and has been something Spo has tried to replicate ever since. His logic is the team does not need a backup pg because every player can play point. Let’s see what happens in the 20-25 games Lowry misses this season.

Norris Cole and Chalmers played the pg position in college and high school. You could trust them with 20 mins of handling the ball and running some sets. Plus back then we had a prime Bron and Wade who could both playmake. And Bron could play huge minutes as well.
It made sense then but not now. Maybe it works out but we are taking a risk for no reason. Lowry being old could easily miss a month of injuries and if it doesn't work that could cost wins.
The Heat path to ECF finals is very narrow and seeding matters for us. Nets will be 1st seed and Bucks likely 2nd. Heat need to get 3rd otherwise forget about getting past round 2.

I have been very vocal that the position-less style of basketball does not work without a superstar like Lebron (and Lebron can win in almost any system). But Spo is gonna Spo and there isn’t much we can do :dontknow:

No offense "works" without a superstar

“I see myself as a guy that I can get back to my old self, just playing the game the right way, not having to look over my shoulder,” said Morris to the Sun Sentinel . “I feel like we have nobody on the team like just, ‘give him the ball, and then everybody just watch and let them make the play.’ It’s a collective.

“We’re going to need everybody to score and rebound and defend every night. And that’s the best team to be on, when you don’t have to run to the corner every play and wait for a guy to make a play for you.”

Not a Lebron fan i gather

We really need this guy to hit shots and be decent defensively, I have no faith in 47 YO PJ Tucker.

If PJ, KZ, Vincent or/and Morris are taking a ton of shots that would mean Bam is not. For the success of this team, Bam needs to be taking 15 or more shots a game. Herro needs to be taking the same amount but making them. And Dip needs to be taking 13 fga.

It was annoying amd a detriment to see Olynyk jack up so many shots.

3. LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks
1. Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets

14. Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat
(Previous rank: 11)
Spoiler:
Butler is a blunt force who hammers opposing defenses over the head with effectiveness. The Heat’s ornery stare makes up for his unreliable jumper by consistently fighting his way to the free-throw stripe. Butler averaged eight freebies a night in 2021 after 9.1 attempts in 2020. He’s also excelled as a playmaker since joining Miami two seasons ago. Jimmy posted a career-best 7.1 assists per game last year, and he’s become one of the best table setters in the league. Whether he is operating out of the post or the pick-and-roll, Butler is fully committed to the Heat’s egalitarian offensive system. He leverages the attention defenses give to stop him from getting to the rim to spray the ball to shooters or run handoffs with quick-moving wings.

And defensively, Butler is still one of the best on the perimeter. He’s good for two steals a game and can credibly slow down any wing in the league on any given possession. Butler is an on-ball menace who rarely freelances lest he mess up a team effort. Ultimately, though Butler’s inconsistent shot prevents him from being placed higher on the Top 100, he’s still one of the strongest two-way forces in the world. — RN

22. Bam Adebayo, Miami Heat
(Previous rank: 20)
Spoiler:
No ceiling. That’s how Erik Spoelstra likes to describe Adebayo, who is arguably the most versatile and effective defensive big man in the NBA. Adebayo’s absurd defensive skills alone make him top-25 worthy. When you add in his growing offensive repertoire as both an initiator and scorer, he becomes someone that every single coach in the league covets. If Bam develops into a more confident and consistent scorer, he will take another leap up this list. — RN

40. Kyle Lowry, Miami Heat
(Previous rank: 28)
Spoiler:
Intentional or not, the Toronto favorite saved his best for last as a Raptor, dropping a 37-piece in his final performance for the Canadian club against the Lakers. Whether the 35-year-old has more like that left in his tank remains to be seen. He consistently plays hard, and led the NBA in charges taken this past year. If he can remain impactful on both ends in Miami, the Heat should be solidly in contention for the East. — CH

85. Duncan Robinson, Miami Heat
(Previous year rank: 99)
Spoiler:
Robinson’s mark from three dipped to 40.8% last season from a 44.6% mark in 2019-20, but the undrafted forward remains a key cog in Miami’s attack. Robinson is a technician as he curls into wing triples or fades into the corner. He’s becoming increasingly crafty when crowded by defenders, creating space with a single hard dribble. Robinson is a perfect complement to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo’s work inside the arc. —MS

Overall I think it's a pretty reasonable list. Assuming some wiggle room of one or two spots +/- for everyone; I think Yimmy is ranked about right, Bam seems too high, Lowry a little low, and Duncan's value is almost entirely dependent on specific team build/need so it's hard to rank him league-wide (can say the same for most guys at that tier). It's funny because iirc Herro was in the 70s at this time last year lol

I def agree on needing Herro and Bam taking 15+ shots.

That also means we need to quicken the pace, hopefully Lowry helps with that.

I definitely expect our pace to pick up with Lowry. The major reason we played so depressingly slow last season is because outside of Gogi off the bench, Yimmy was the only primary ballhandler capable of running the offense without turning it over every other possession. He did a fine job taking care of the ball and making the right passes, but in reality he went from being a scoring wing capable of secondary playmaking to suddenly being asked to become a full-time PG running the offense. So while he made the right plays, it took him longer to do so each possession because he had to be more deliberate and methodical than a naturally quick read/react prototypical pure PG like Lowry

So I had an Idea, bare with me.
I said if I do an excel sheet, and give players points broken out like this.
Baseline, Top 1 player gets 100 points (Durant), then as it descends to the top 100 (Jordan Clarkson) it would be down to 1 point.
Additionally, star power matters, so I gave players 100-75 (+2 points), 75-51 (+5 points), 50-26 (+10 points), 25-11 (+25 points), Top 10 (+50).
Due to the list having up to 6 players on some teams on the top 100, it was only fair to add for proper average (+1 player) for every player missing from the 6 to achieve a proper team average and total points.
I then sorted by team total points assigned NBA total rank and a conference rank.
I did this because I want to know if player status based on ranking has an actual correlation with team performance.
Low and behold it is pretty clear how close to the truth this ranking based on team overall performance can be.
