Anthony Randolph LSU

Post#241 » by vincent » Sun Apr 20, 2008 7:32 pm

Stock is on the rise ....

The guys was a freshman Phenom last season but was over shadow
by his team 13 win season ( not his fault).

In a interview on wqam IRA W said the HEAT could look in his direction
http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profile ... dolph.html
NBA Comparison: Lamar Odom/Tayshaun Prince
Strengths: Long, lanky forward with a great deal of upside ... His length and agility makes him very unique playing on the wing ... Highly versatile. He has a vast array of offensive abilities, especially impressive considering his age: Randolph has a tremendous handle and gets to the basket extremely well off the bounce ... A smooth athlete with great foot speed ... Runs the floor like a deer and has amazing fluidity ... Really makes a difficult match up as he's able to use his great length on both ends of the floor ... His offensive skill set is developing quickly ... Scores very well around the basket with a wide array of hooks and finger rolls. Being left handed enhances his effectiveness ... Has really developed as the season has gone on, and is beginning to dominate on a regular basis ... Causes mayhem crashing the glass, often following teammates shots with highlight one handed finishes ... Also shows solid vision and playmaking ability for teammates ... Has a lot of defensive potential. Blocks a ton of shots (2.3 pg) for a wing player due to his length, timing and explosiveness ... Shows good promise as a free throw shooter (70%), hard work and repetition should help him increase it ...

so if the HEAT doesn't land the 1 or 2 pick
look like AR stock is rise ,maybe as high 3 pick in the draft

He'd be a great candidate if Riley trades the pick for multiple of 1st rounders (top 10 + mid-late 1st).

This is where I have a problem with people not wanting Rose. If you want Beasley because he's better fine, but not because both he and Wade are playmakers. Wade has never had a player to create for him, and to tell you the truth that could take ALOT of pressure off him. He has always played with an average PG, and nobody knows how he could play with a stud PG. I'm honestly quietly hoping for the 2nd pick because I feel Rose will be the better player in the end, and because he plays the most important position in the NBA.

the thing is that i dont think beasley is neccesarily better...i think hes more nba ready and is a better fit for our team

yes, rose would take some of the burden off of wade but that is really not our most pressing need, we need scoring...w/ rose, the bulk of our scoring will depend on wade...and to boot we become a fastbreaking team and that style never wins in the postseason...beasley and wade would play off each other and give us more balance, scoring and rebounding...all w/ one pick

yes i love anthony randolph and think hes a big time prospect...only problem is that he will take time to develop...but i think he can be a star in this league

if we managed to trade down in the draft while getting a piece like elton brand and the # 6 pick, provided bayless and lopez are off the board...this is the guy i want because he has the heighest ceiling of anyone in the draft not named beasley or rose

and for the record, my big board is

1. Beasley
2. Rose
3. Brook Lopez
4. Jerryd Bayless
5. Anthony Randolph
6. Russell Westbrook
7. OJ mayo

i know ppl are gonna say that westbrook is too high, mayo is too low and lopez it too high...this is based on my opinion of who fits best on our team and w/ our style of play

I've adjusted my big board a little too.

Beasley
Rose
Randolph
Thabeet

Rose showed a lot in the tournament. Beasley has bad games of 20 points and ten rebounds. Randolph is smooth, athletic, and basketball savvy. Thabeet is a mobile, defensive monster whose offense is not as Mutombo-like as is his defense.

Also, I like Westbrook as well, Lopez not so much and Mayo ahead of Bayless.

I think PG and Center are the most important, So I do agree with you. But let me think of all the SF/PF combo foward tweeners. Antwan Jamison, Shawn Marion, Rashard Lewis, Lamar Odom, Al Harington. Most of this guys are very talented, but they are usually not the most important piece on their team.

If their was a real legit big man center, that was the second coming of Shaq, Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan., Hakeem Olajuwon This would be an easy choice, but I think some are really trying to undermine us, by acting like Beasley is one the next great big men. He is the next prototype of SF/PF combo Foward tweener.

We already have one of those combo fowards in Marion. I don't know how we seem to overlook this fact.

KG was also a sf/pf tweener and played both positions coming into the league..the difference b/w beasley and those players is that he actually can create his own offense and score in the post...the fact that he can take his man off the dribble and shoot from outside is what makes him scary....no hes not KG or TD but there arent that many in the league to begin with...with wade and beasley we would have a dynamic duo to rival any in the league...remember beasley is 1/4 inch away from 6'10 and can easily be 6'10 by the time training camp starts...he has a big frame and can prob go to 250 if needbe

1.) Rose
2.) Beasley
3.) Mayo
4.) Bayless
5.) Randolph

Always go with upside. The whole point is to get a difference maker in the first round, the one who will hopefully lead your team to a title.

Even in the worst case scenario we get Bayless, it's not that bad, we'll still get some decent help either way

EDIT: If Beasley is 6-9 and 3/4 without shoes I would definitely put him over Rose. If he also has a good wingspan measurement that will help also

If you don't think guards can make plays for each other you don't watch enough basketball. Wade played off the ball a lot during the championship season. The only reason we've seen him handle so much the past couple seasons is J-Will's been either injured or inept, and there's never been any real depth beyond that. Wade has been the sole playmaker out of necessity. Why do you think HE wants Rose? His game improved dramatically when he was moved off the ball his second season. You guys are imagining Rose being plugged right into J-Will's role instead of realizing having a player like Rose will change the offense. That doesn't mean Wade is just going to sit in the corner every possession and wait for spot up jumpers. It is definitely possible to incorporate two main playmakers in an offense. I think some would be surprised to see how much Wade's production would increase.

Wade and Rose can both score, we've all seen both of them take over games. Rose and Wade pushing the ball in transition would build up easy baskets. I'm not saying Rose should definitely be picked over Beasley, or that the Heat would be close to a finished product with him, I'm just pointing out the other side. I believe if you're going after the best future player, its Rose.

Ive been pretty high on A.R for a while now. I even told acouple friends the other day that i would take him 3 overall and they went off on me. I think the guy has Lamar odom/Chris Bosh type potential. 6"11 220 is thin but you get this guy to be 6"11 240 and you have a very nice PF for the future.

I couldn't imagine the matchup nightmares teams would face with a Rose-Wade combo. They would be incredible together IMO. Another reason I'm liking Rose now moreso then Beasley is because Beasley isn't neccesarily a Shaq-Howard-Duncan-Brand type player, he is more a jump shooting Boozer type player. I think Beasley can have success on the block, but I don't think his athleticism or lack of heigh will allow him to dominate on the block like many think he will. If he was two inches taller he would be an obvious pick IMO.

Rose can come in from day 1 and physically match up with any PG in the league. He could immediately take pressure off Wade because of the way he can penetrate and handle, and would give the team a playmaker they havent seen since Wade himself. To anyone that doesn't think this team needs another playmaker they're kidding themselves.

That's just my opinion though, I'm sure Riley and the Heat organization would make the right pick if put in that situation.

Let be honest here we need alot of things. A playmaker would be nice but we have no post presence at all, ZERO. Beasley from day one would be head and shoulders the best post player on this team and he can create his own shot at will. A Wade/Rose backcourt would be entertaining but one just needs to look at all the success the Warriors/Nets are having/had to see thats not the way to go unless you care more about the regular season instead of the playoffs. But if we miss out on Beasley, Rose would be the next choice.

I think I put one of the SF/PF combo Foward tweeners plays infact for Golden State. That is the problem with your arguement, Yeah I concede Beasley might be somewhat more talented than Al Harrington. But look at their height, and also their weight.

Beasley is 6 9, Al Harrington is 6 9.

Weight Beasley is 235, Al Harrington is 250.

Even by some that think Beasley will gain some pounds, he is still weights 15 pounds less, than Al Harrington and LeBron James a SF, that is relative huge for a SF, but wouldn't be much of a PF.

Am sure Sam Bowie probably had a little bit more post presence than Michael Jordan, that is why he was drafted ahead of Jordan. By your logic you still take Sam Bowie over Jordan.

hes chiseled at 19

and hes strong as hell all ready. He has a lot of core strength. weak guys dont grab 12 rebounds like he does.

and you take the 235 way too seriously. he could easily weight 225, 245, etc

you just have no clue

First of all, Brand doesn't really belong in that category, I'm not sure Duncan really does either. All those guys are pretty different actually.

Anyway, Beasley is not just an outside shooting "big." He loves to play inside and take care of dirty work/work out of the post. I'm not saying he's a Jr. Duncan, but he could have that kind of effect next to a great guard like Dwyane. Also, do you realize Brand is 6-8 and almost definitely less athletic than Beasley? I'm pretty sure Beasley would out jump a prime Duncan as well.

First Durant grab 11 rebounds per game in college. Know he grabs 4.4 in the NBA. Am not saying Beasley will be nearly as bad as Durant when it comes to rebounding, but you are putting to much stock in those super inflated stats, Beasley had vs College duds.

When I see Beasley, he doesn't look that big to me, specially when he makes the change to the NBA, were guys are bigger and more athletic.

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic. ... 4&start=12

In this thread I put some pictures of Beasley against a 270

6 11 guy in college. For some reason Beasley looks small next to this guy. I do believe he is somewhere close to 235 by looking at this pics.

Durant plays SG, where he is expected to defend the perimeter and protect the backcourt offensively, not bang underneath for rebounds.

Hard to expect a 19-year-old to grab more than 5 rebounds/game from 20 feet out.

Or are you saying that Beasley, like Durant, will also move to SG in the NBA, thus bringing him down to 5 reb/game?

I'm happy someone actually looks beyond the stats. It's a little easier in college to grab 11 boards when you're taller and faster than anyone else at SF then it is to grab double digit boards as a SG in the NBA. 5 boards a game at SG is pretty good actually.

Also, it's kind of comical to put a player down by comparing him to Carlos Boozer. Boozer is a darn good player and one of only four 20 and 10 guys this year.
