Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
If Greg Oden is in good shape already, like his agent always emphasizes, why we haven't invited him yet to play for us in summer league???

Because hes not about to risk his health playing in summer league, hes alrdy worked out for Riles, but not yet cleared for contact yet. If he physically checks out, u will see the heat and other team make offers. Whether he wants that mini MLE or not, has yet to be seen. But my guess is that he does. Are we willing to give it to him? prob not.

i dont think that should be assumed at all, other teams will try to offer him more money than us. Whether we get him, will depend on his physical but also whether we're willing to take a chance on him with the mini MLE

Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
...Other than being able to offer Oden a minimum deal, the Heat have their taxpayer mid-level exception available that starts at $3.183 million. Conley wouldn't speculate on whether that is what would be required to sign Oden, but he did say it's good the Andersen deal clears up what the Heat could pay.
"I think it obviously makes it easier because they know how much money they have available," Conley said of Andersen having signed a deal essentially for the minimum next year of $1.68 million while the Heat didn't use the taxpayer mid-level exception on him. “We haven't been down that road yet but I anticipate we will be shortly."...

If we can get both Oden and Dalembert, we'd be set and be in a greater position to repeat if everyone stays healthy.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

highly unlikely, not just because of the cap situation, but i dont think either oden or dalembert wants to just cheerlead.

Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
Oden on a 2 yr deal would be my dream signing. All we need is a BIG to give us 10-12 mins in the regular season. Oden would be given most of the season to come back slow and work on his game in practice. Once playoffs come we bring him out vs. BKN, Chicago and Pacers. Add in that this team is in need of some young talent, Oden would fill a huge void in our team. If he gets hurt, well we took our chance but if he gives us 75% of the player he was, he would be the biggest off-season signing outside of Dwight. I truly feel that he is our missing piece short term and long term.
and we amnesty Joel! hahahahha

I hope somebody signs Dalembert for the reminder of his life. I am so tired of seeing Heat fans get excited for that bum, who represents none of the things this team is about: heart, passion, sacrifice, desire to win, friendship/family.

Win.

Just as I was saying above.
Win ... too bad that with Dalembert you can only lose. Just like with Dampier.
The gods of basketball might have allowed Didier Mbenga to get 2 rings, but they won't allow someone like Dampier or Dalembert get one. Even they must set some limits and draw the line somewhere.

Oden's agent, Mike Conley Sr., told FOX Sports Florida on Friday he plans soon to resume talks with Heat president Pat Riley, who has been taking care of other business. He said Oden, who hasn't played in an NBA game since December 2009 because of knee injuries, remains very interested in signing with Miami this summer and he believes the Heat want Oden.
"Obviously, they've got a need there," Conley said of a center. "It's a situation where they probably can't go out and get a top player (with the money they have), but they can take chance on somebody like Greg and his upside. The exposure (of playing for the Heat) would be good for Greg. He could work his way back into his game.I think Miami is a good situation."
Last part is pretty interesting imo. It seems it's not about money at all for Oden...
It actually is, if they bet Oden can come back and stay relatively healthy - let's say similar to Big Z after the injury plagued start of his career.
If they think Oden can last as much as Big Z did, a couple of years (and a couple of rings) with the Heat on the cheap might set him up beautifully for being paid a big salary at 27-28, when he's about to reach his prime. He could have 2 big pay days before he retires (or starts accepting lower salaries again): 27-31 and 31-35. If he manages to play really well for the Heat, he could even get a max after 2 years, that's how rare 7 footers with skills are in the NBA. Especially more likely now, when the max is not what it used to be.
So yeah, if they think long term and bet on a long career (from now on) and they're right, Miami could benefit a lot for at least 2 years. Who knows, after 2 years he might love playing for the Heat so much he might accept a little less to continue rolling with Lebron (and an aging Wade + Bosh).
If, on the other hand, they wanted a last big payday (betting on Oden's health not holding up), they'd probably look for as much as possible, which for sure would take Miami out of contention - unless somehow all the NBA teams suddenly became wise and stopped drooling like idiots at the sight of a 7 footer that can tie his own shoes without falling over.
I would say that this would be a win-win for the Heat: if they're used as bait, whatever, probably not losing anything. If Oden really wants to play for the Heat, it'd be a relatively cheap gamble that could pay off in spades.

Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
I think Riley big concern is how much of basketball shape is Oden in. Its a question of if he can contribute this year or is he a year away? Oden has to be able to play in our system. We are not going to run plays or change the system to suit him. So conditioning a big concern.

If Riley tried to resurrect Eddy Curry, I'm definitely inclined to believe that the Heat's brass will gamble on Oden. It's all up to Oden if we wants it or not..

Why? We had Howard sitting at the end of the bench, and he really can't give anything at this point, yet he was there. If Oden can't, so be it, but if he can, then it helps us immensely.
This position isn't make or break for us. We're the best team in the league regardless. It would simply be nice to have such commodities sitting around.
Some people are over-analyzing the situation too much.
