Miami has players that can and will play above defensive roles. Marion, Haslem, Zo (if he comes back), Wright, maybe Banks to cover PGs. That solves their defensive problems
Backup PF? Marion? When Wright is getting his time at SF, Marion is more then capable of playing backup PF.
Starting PG and C I'd agree with. The good thing is this draft class is loaded with PGs and C's too. Bayless, Mayo, Rose would be more then capable of being a starting PG in this league, especially if we can snag Rose, or bayless. Thabeet, Lopez, Love, Hibbert are all starting caliber C's in the future.
Say they draft Rose, I'd be happy with the way this team looks
Rose, Banks
Wade, Cook
Marion, Wright
Haslem, Marion, Johnson
?, Zo, Blount
Our lineup would look like that, along with a 2nd round pick and the MLE. Not too bad of a core, considering some teams go through 5+ years of rebuilding, and this team could possibly do it in less then 1 if everything goes right.

its obvious this team needs three things to get back into contention, outside shooting, shot blocking and a new PG. I think we will be ok defensively with Haslem around to cover the good bigs, Marion covers the good wings. Banks covers the good quick PGs.
Zo will take care of the shotblocking but only in limited minutes, we probably still need to add someone like Diop.
it would be great if we could add a PG that is also a good outside shooter, filling a couple needs with one guy.
Bayless, Diop (LLE), Childress (MLE), bring back Chris Quinn and Alexander Johnson.
Bayless (08 Lottery Pick)
Wade
Marion
Haslem
Diop (LLE)
Blount
Childress (MLE)
Banks
Wright
Zo
Cook
Johnson
Quinn
to me that team should be able to be be successful.
something tells me that Riley is going to use the lottery pick and a player like Udonis Haslem and/or Mark Blount to fill our holes with veteran players though.

I don't think Diop wil sign for the LLE and I guess Childress might command more than the MLE although that's debatable.
Anyway, we should have done something with one of our expirings because we will have too many holes to fill through draft or exceptions. Another deal we should have agressively pursued was trading Blount for a shorter contract. I mean, some team must be in need of a big man and be stuck with a heavy salary guy who's not contributing (Marshall comes to mind).
Maybe something like Curry and Rose for J-Will and Blount.
If we examine the list of players we could possible get with our exceptions I don't see how were going to improve dramatically. Maybe a good deal in the offseason and some nice signings might get us back on track.

we have to bank on this lottery pick yielding our next Caron Butler, DWade type of pick.
Beasley, Rose or Bayless seem to be the 3 guys that have the potential to dramatically change the complexion of our squad
split our MLE on two player and spend our LLE. + our draft pick and we can reshape this roster more then you think. even if we spent our MLE on one player we could potentially add 3 rotation players with our exceptions and draft pick. we cant afford to miss on this pick.
more likely scenario if we know Riley is to deal the pick for a package of veterans to get us back to winning immediately.

Some times you just have to laugh.
Let Marion go and bring in Artest
that'll be an improvement lol
send blount to a team that needs a big - lol there aren't many teams who need a big more than us.
and then there are the multitude get rid of 75% of the team and bring in the same level player with a different name.
Just sit back and think a little more before you post some of these scenarios.

FWIW, Hollinger ranked us as making the best trade
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/ ... des-080221
Feb. 6: Phoenix acquires Shaquille O'Neal from Miami in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks
For Miami: Are you kidding me? This was like having a bag of money drop in your lap, except that the bag contained $40 million. Effectively, that's how much Miami saves in this deal, by dropping its obligation to the dead-weight last final two seasons on O'Neal's contract.
Marion can opt out of his contract after the season, but he will help them whether he stays or goes. He either gives them beaucoup cap space or one of the best two-way forwards in the game.
And don't sleep on Banks. Although he didn't fit in Phoenix, his ability to pressure the ball and attack off the dribble could make a Banks-Wade-Marion perimeter trio a true terror with ball pressure and transition offense. Grade: A+
For Phoenix: As I've written, I hated this trade and nothing that happened Wednesday night changed my mind. Shaq was supposed to improve Phoenix's defense; in his first game the Suns gave up 130 points.
I'll admit O'Neal looked better than I thought he would; on the other hand, Pau Gasol beat him down court by 30 feet twice in the final five minutes, which is pretty discouraging considering the court is only 94 feet long. Grade: D-
For Seattle: And now, for the big winner ... everyone remember that Kurt Thomas trade back in the fall? Phoenix sent Seattle two first-rounders in that deal.
What you might not remember is that the 2010 pick is completely unprotected. Didn't seem like a big deal with Phoenix's roster at the time, but now look at the Suns. In the 2009-10 season, Shaq will be 37, Steve Nash will be 35, Grant Hill will be 37, and Raja Bell will be 33. With this trade, the value of that pick just went through the roof. Grade: A

IF marion does opt out OR if we land beasley in the draft, would you consider trading haslem to a team for their 1st rd pick in 08 like say, milwaukee or some team picking between 8 and 14? Would they do it?
say we get the 1st pick and draft beasley...we could trade haslem to hou for their pick at 14 if a guy like hibbbert is there
hibbert/blount
beasley
marion/wright
wade/cook
FA (navarro, duhon, west, etc)/banks

Jamal Magloire waived. What are you waiting for Riley?
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

If they would do that, I'd rather take a PG. Augistin, Collison, Lawson and even possibly Mayo (I doubt but NBAdraft.net has him at 12 right now). All 3 or 4 PG's would be a good fit in a transition offense being able to push the ball up, plus all 4 play pretty strong defense.
I feel Hibbert is just a wasted draft pick. Especially if they were somehow able to get a midround draft pick.

Why trading Haslem IMO is a bad idea. Riley on UD being a C in the East:

which pg would you prefer to get with the MLE..my list
1. navarro
2. daniel gibson
3. Beno Udrih
4. Delonte West
5. Chris Duhon
Navarro, gibson and west are RFA's but i think we can nab at least one since mem is cheap and has a bunch of pg's and gibson and west are both RFA's and i doubt cle will have $ to keep both,
Udrih is unrestricted as well as duhon and Udrih is putting up big numbers
