It was falsely reported at first. They actually received a 2014 pick from Pelicans.

They would have been able to trade it anyway however, with the right protections. For example, we might've been able to grab it from 15-30 while New Orleans might've gotten it if it fell from 3-14.

To be fair, there was no one else to really take by the time Wade came around. And Pat wasn't sold on wade either

Yeah the fact that we really were focusing on a PG (Kirk) or a C (Kaman) and ended up taking Wade to me says more about Heat staff giving the proper due diligence and working together openly to seek out the better potential talent. No team bats 100% because there's so many variables involved, the biggest one being the player's ability to adapt mentally to a professional level. You always hope you can feel out a kid's mental state and approach through prior interviews but it's a whole different ballpark when the obstacles and distractions are actually there. The same could even be said about what actually happens on the court. With the stakes higher than ever and us being strapped for cash, I have confidence in our staff that they're making well-researched smart moves given our few resources & reluctance of the rest of the league to ever help us out via trades, etc.

Actually, it's not mine either, but I'm sure if you credited Nobymoby, he would be fine with other people rocking it.

I'm actually excited about Kabongo too, he's shown a lot that I like.

I'm talking about the Heat in general on the draft, not just the last 9-10 years;

Since the franchise was created we got Wade, Butler, Rio, Cole, Glen Rice, Steve Smith, Rony Seikaly and Kurt Thomas.

That's it. For a 25 year old franchise to get 8 players that were decent enough to be true contributors in their career, not being all stars, that's incredibly low!

You're welcome LeBron.

Tyler Herro is a TURD.
Bam is NOT elite but is getting better.
Fire Spoelstra!
Josh Heupel is coming for you.

I’m a proud admirer and lover of BBWs!

myck kabongo is really talented. He could be our back up PG if Rio decides to leave after this year while Cole takes over the starting role.

I'm a diehard Texas Longhorns fan so I hope Kabongo can make the team. I'm quite surprised he didn't get drafted. He's talented enough to play in the NBA.

He could be a steal for you guys.

Ahh, the seduction by the "possibilities of potential". The excitement some of you display on your posts about all these developmental players could be quite comical sometimes.

I guess is healthier than trying to trade Chris Bosh for anything heavier and/or longer than him.

i'd really like us to have 3 point guards on the roster like normal nba teams lol. you can save that positionless stuff for the playoffs when you go down to an 8-man rotation. i'd like guys in their natural position as much as possible during the regular season. (assuming we pick up dalembert and amnesty miller)

1- rio/cole/kabongo
2- wade/ray/ennis
3- bron/battier/jj
4- bosh/haslem/lewis
5- dalembert/andersen/joel

I saw a WT that said Heat aren't expect to amnesty Miller. It's not happening.

I'd be happy to start the new season with a depth chart like this :

C - Chris Bosh, Greg Oden, Chris Andersen
F - Udonis Haslem, Shane Battier, Rashard Lewis
F - LeBron James, James Ennis, James Jones
G - Dwyane Wade, Ray Allen, Mike Miller
G - Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole, Myck Kabongo

You're talking in circles here. You were the one who brought "What if you have to rebuild?" not me.

You're point about players taking longer to develop actually points to drafting players earlier not later. If we need a rotation guy in the future it would be better if he is a third year guy and not a rookie.

Again go back to the original post you quoted:

We are way past the luxury tax line, there is no flexibility with a pick or not.

I was speaking from a win-now position. As long as we are in that mode we are going to be way past the luxury tax without any cap flexibility and one late draft pick wouldn't change that. We will be way over the cap even while the big 3 opt out with the cap holds for Lebron/Wade/Bosh unless we renounce their rights. If you see that happening then we have much bigger problems.

I think you are understanding in circles just for the sake of arguing. Really? A late first round pick in a weak draft (2012)?

You have yet to name a player that is was worth paying luxury tax money with a guaranteed contract and/or risk our cap flexibility in 2014 IF any one, two or all three of the big three bolt.

Here is a list of the players drafted from #27 (Heat slot) and on in 2012 NBA Draft:

Arnett Moultrie
Perry Jones III
Marquis Teague
Festus Ezeli
Jeffery Taylor
Tomáš Satoranský
Bernard James
Jae Crowder
Draymond Green
Orlando Johnson
Quincy Acy
Quincy Miller
Khris Middleton
Will Barton
Tyshawn Taylor
Doron Lamb
Mike Scott
Kim English
Justin Hamilton
Darius Miller
Kevin Murphy
Kostas Papanikolaou
Kyle O'Quinn
İzzet Türkyılmaz
Kris Joseph
Ognjen Kuzmić
Furkan Aldemir
Tornike Shengelia
Darius Johnson-Odom
Tomislav Zubčić
İlkan Karaman
Robbie Hummel
Marcus Denmon
Robert Sacre

Do you see the name of player that would've have played this season? A player that would've played this upcoming season?

If you are going to have any of those players ride the bench a la Varnado, why do it on a guaranteed contract, eliminate roster flexibility, pay a higher tax bill and complicate your cap flexibility in 2014? Don't you think that future first round pick from Philly - or two high 2nd rounder as it looks like now - are more valuable as assets when evaluating the whole situation we are in now and in 2014?

He wants money because he does a lot of charity work for Haiti out of his own pocket. The more money he gets, the more he helps his country.
