Dude. He wasn't a top 3 pick. He was the 10th pick, and Winslow is what you expected out of the 10th pick. If you re draft his draft he is 9 - 10 pick. This is not a Michael Bealsy situation. He didn't fail he just didn't overperform as some had hoped he would.
Based on expectations set by fans he definitely fell way short of that. I remember fans turning down trades of Blake Griffin or Jimmy butler for Winslow as the centerpiece on our side.
Winslow pre draft was getting top 5 hype. He "fell" to 10 and was considered the steal of the draft. I always had him in that 10-15 range but he didnt hold expectations of a guy picked in that range he had higher expectations. Tho I cant talk I wanted Stanley Johnson in that draft lol
Remember that Caron Butler also had similar pre draft hype. He was supposed to go top 3. Then the Warriors took Mike Dunleavy, and he fell all the way to us at 10.
Winslow was considered a steal, but his stock was dropping closer to the draft. His workouts weren’t as impressive as other guys, which makes sense when you watch him in game. He hasn’t got the pure stroke. He doesn’t have the vert. What he does have is a great feel for the game, passing instincts, defensive intensity and blue collar work ethic. Those things don’t shop up in individual workouts.
While it would be nice if he blew up, bottom line is at pick 10 you are hoping for a long term rotation player with starter potential. He is that. He didn’t get to deliver on it fully here for a multitude of reasons, hoping chapter 2 works out for him. I’ll always be in his corner.
