Between Smart, Garrett, and Knight you gotta wonder how long until 1 is deemed ready to replace Gabe Vincent

DVR'd the game and watching it right now. 1st quarter about to end and my takeaway is... how tf is Gabe Vincent employed as a professional basketball player

Riley had to have been partying hard when he decided to sign Gabe to a 2 year deal :banghead:

People love to hate.

Gabe has been disappointing, but realistically he's a backup making minimum money. Most of these guys aren't lighting it up.

Gabe plays hard and smart, can defend, doesn't turn it over. In theory he's a good shooter, which we need, but for some reason he can't hit shots in the NBA level. So at this stage we should probably give other young guys a chance, not because they'll definitely play much better, but because they have a chance to be an offensive upgrade.

Garret is a lot bigger and longer, can drive and finish better and might be more disruptive defensively. His 3 point shot might be worst then Gabe's.

Javonte Smart is up and down, but showing a versatile offensive game. Can drive and finish, shoot the 3, pass. Defense is suspect.

I'd give both a chance because Gabe couldn't break out despite getting multipole chances. If one of them can become a legit 2 way player that can bring some consistent scoring it could REALLY help this team, we often need another guard that can create and defend.

The 2nd year is non-guaranteed, with a guarantee date of 29th June 2022. It's essentially a 1yr deal, while giving us the opportunity to keep him into the 2nd year if he showed he was going to be worth overs.

If the current trajectory stands, I'd expect us to waive him prior to the 2022 offseason.

After 13 games being 8-5, a quick look at ORTG-DRTG for Miami's players to see how big of an impact the players are having on the team. Just a simple way I look at a player's overall impact on the team so far.

Lowry +3
Butler +27
Robinson -2 (was a -1 last year)
Tucker +9
Bam +12

Herro +1 (up from -9 each of his first 2 years)
Morris -4
Dedmon +23 (+30 last year, exceptional production in his 13 minutes a game, maybe up his minutes?)
Strus -6
Martin -1
Vincent -14

Only 4 more games to go past the first 20% of the season being done.

I’m counting this part of my season prediction confirmed:

12) Predict the weirdest moment of the season.

DWade caught cheering for the Heat during Heat @ Jazz game.

https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-heat/fl-sp-miami-heat-notebook-friday-20211112-iywepfwtybeejajc6pxynlrnam-story.html

Wade wants both teams to win. And if that doesn’t make sense, he said he will leave that for others to sort out.

“I don’t have mixed emotions,” Wade told the South Florida Sun Sentinel ahead of the Heat’s game Saturday at Vivint Arena against the Jazz. “I love the Heat. I love Jimmy Butler. I love Bam [Adebayo]. I got to root for those guys no matter what. So it’s not mixed emotions.”

Kyle Lowry said Duncan Robinson was the Heat player who selected the game ball today, said he might now let him do it again. Robinson was 6 of 11 on 3s

Field Goal Attempts a Game
Tyler Herro - 18.2 (21.5 ptg)
Jimmy Butler - 15.2 (23.6 ptg)
Bam Adebayo - 13.9 (19.7 ptg)
Kyle Lowry - 10.7
Duncan Robinson - 10.5

Adebayo is still shooting well below the FGA needed to be the impact player the Heat needs him to be if they are going to be contenders. He has been very irratic with his FGA. His FGA in the fourth quarter are piss poor (2.6 fga in the fourth quarter outside of the Nets game). Herro attempts are still way too high, needs to come down a bit and given to Bam and Lowry. I know that is an unpopular opinion but just laying it out there to be digested.

Last few games Lowry has picked up the his fga averaging around 15. I expect Lowry to take some more of the shots as the season goes. Backup point guard is the biggest issue right now with Gabe looking like Gabe. Need a better point guard to help Herro get better quality shots.

Will return to give a more indepth analysis at the 20 game mark.

Both Jimmy and Bam are way more efficient in their shot attempts but that's a product of being in the starting unit. Being part of the starting unit will limit the FGA but make the efficiency better, except for Robinson whos just been atrocious. I think in our case there is a blended rate here since Herro is first off the bench and inserted early with the other starters so I do agree he should see a reduced attempts especially if he is with Kyle. However Herro's high attempts also are due to our bench unit not having too many scorers either. What should help the efficiency there is a true back up point guard. You can see the difference when Kyle sits we go away from our sets and fall into ISO ball.

I’ve seen DJ Augustine rumored as a potential target for our backup PG.

DJ
Dipo
Herro
Morris
Dedmon/Yurt

Not bad at all, good depth and versatility with veteran leadership focused on the main goal. This may be an unpopular opinion but depending on how Struss continues to play I may rather see him getting Morris spot when we’re finally at full strength

Also a lot of Wall speculation put out by Barry a month or so ago. That would obviously be great. Buyout market might show some good opportunities this year. Gotta get rid of some of these failed project in Gabe and KZ at the deadline and fill with veterans imo.

I like the addition of DJ. Was way overhyped coming out of college but he has been a solid professional backup in this league. I think the Heat will give Gabe another month, and likely will be time for Oladipo to return. It appears they really want a defensive pressing point guard next to Tyler and I think Spo wants Herro handling the ball a lot. So I really doubt they pick up DJ.

Yea you could definitely be right. I want to get rid of some of these young guys for some vets so we’ll see who comes available. Just feel like we’re wasting a couple roster spots. Caleb will have to be converted to a standard contract if he keeps playing in this many games too I believe

I doubt it, I would expect C.Martin to be converted to a regular contract once Miami can do that while being under the tax.

Return to Miami Heat
