He's younger and would be less expensive than Beal with perhaps even a higher upside.

restricted FA, he only leaves if they don't want him

Waiters fan since birth, Doc?
If Dion embraced that 6th man role, in this kind of shape, he’d be terrific and well worth his $12m.
Hopefully he can stay healthy and show some of that explosion again next year. He’s gonna be important, one of the best shot makers on the squad and should be one of our better three point shooters.
Anything less than Yimmy/Waiters/Winslow ain't it
I'm good with Winslow/Waiters/Butler as our starting guard/wing rotation Bish. If Dragic is still on the roster, he can also fill that same 6th man role I wa stalking about above.
I just need to see Winnie reps man. I really feel he could really break out this year if given the rock. No Jrich, and he seems (should be) the clear choice to start at the 1 (nevermind the Riley rhetoric - he's blusterin').

But in hindsight LA Clippers needed that pick to get the Kawhi/PG deals done so we didn't need to lock up all of our future picks in one trade that only provided us cap room. Riley got played on that deal.

Wiltside wrote:dean456 wrote:This deal OKC are proposing makes absolutely no sense for us. Teams can only trade future picks from the next 7 seasons at any point in time which means we can only trade picks up until 2026. If we only get one of our picks back it doesn't help us at all. Right now we can't trade any picks because they are tied up in the 2023 pick protections extending all the way until 2026. But if OKC were to take any of those picks back in return for the 2023 we still wouldn't be able to trade any of those picks because we'd have,
2022(can't trade because of 2021 at OKC), 2023 (tradable), 2024(not tradable with 2023 moving), 2025 and 2026(both not tradable if OKC take either back in trade). If we only get the 2021 pick back we can only trade the 2020 or the 2021 because the 2023 will still have the protections until 2026.
Only way this trade helps us is with both our picks coming back to us. If its either one of the 2021 or 2023 we can still only trade a single pick in a deal for Beal because we can't trade 2 picks in consecutive years.
If we got both 2021 and 2023 back we could then potentially trade,
2020, 2022, 2024 and 2026 picks
or
2021, 2023 and 2025 picks
Basically if we make a deal for Paul for only one pick we are royally screwed with no picks and no cap space. So to me it's safe to say the deal is dead if OKC don't budge with a second pick. I could see a scenario where we'd be willing to trade a 2026 unprotected pick for both the 2021 and 2023 picks in return because then we could then still trade 2020/2022/2024 or 2021 and 2023 in a Beal trade.
DoM just went full Tommen Lannister at the thought of us trading all picks

It's the cost of doing business. We don't do that, we don't get Butler.
As it turns out, swings and roundabouts. The pick may come full circle if CP3 ends up here.

He wasnt going to give a pick but the Mavs backed out of the Dragic trade. So he had to find another team to help. Clippers had no reason to help us without a sweetener. And tbh I don’t think our ‘23 protected pick was the difference maker for PG13. If the clippers don’t have it that deal still gets done. It was just icing on the cake.

That's an actual argument unlike Fiorentino's which was basically that Spo is a hard worker. Every coach in the NBA is assumed to be a hard worker.
Yeah, that's not at all fair to Fiorentino, someone that everyone respects. In the Heat saying you are a hard worker is like saying you would crush your enemies and gnash them in your teeth. It's just dialect.
I'm admittedly not a fan of Fiorentino. For years he frustrated me with his platitudes that he would pass off as insights in his tv commentary. And I just found him to be cringy at times with his "D-Wade, Baby! Number one in excitement!" lines in the context of discussing numbers and percentages.
Quite frankly, I don't know anyone who liked his commentary and found anything he said to be illuminating. Not my cup of tea.
In terms of the his twitter spat, I stand by what I said. His argument was not an argument.

Fun fact: Beal is younger than Buddy Hield.
