Not sure if this is possible, have to play with the cap spreadsheet to look at it

Don't think it is unless you're factoring in a MASSIVE discount for at least one (and probably more like two) of Wade/Deng/Gasol. And even then, Morrow is still out.

Assuming Wade takes a sane discount ($12 million starting salary), we're at about $41 in committed salary with 8 open roster slots. So that's $18 million in space, minus Bird's hold. So I think $17-ish. Assuming Deng costs $10 (which is on the low end), that's $7 million for Gasol, who just turned down 2/$20+ from the Lakers. And again, that's assuming the low end on Wade and Deng, and excluding Morrow, and putting Granger into the Room Mid-Level.

I don't see why Gasol would come here, though. We're not a real contender without him. You'd think he'd want to go to a team that's ready-made, not one where he'll be a necessity.

I thought Gasol turned down $5M/year, 2 years, 10M total. No?

That's how championship-caliber organizations go about their business. Always asking, "OK, what's next?"

Love to see the same mentality from our fanbase.

Yeah, it's not like LeBron left and we are left with Mo Williams and Andreson Vaerjo or whatever side-show Bob lookalike was. We're good. 8-)

He's a good player, but paying that dude $10 million to play over Ennis and Granger seems like a bad allocation of resources given our holes at PG and C.

We need someone to guard the other teams best wingman cause Wade definitely can't. With the deals out there Deng at 10 mil wouldn't be bad.

It's not that Deng @ $10 is a bad deal, it's that it's a bad deal for us.

I agree that we need a guy to defend the other team's best wing, but I just don't think that's worth $10 million. Tony Allen is making $5 million, and that's on a team that's operating above the cap. $10 million in cap room is serious money. That's a shade away from a max offer for a player in their mid-20s.

Would way rather throw a max offer at Eric Bledsoe or Greg Monroe, although I think Detroit would for sure match and Phoenix probably would.

From The Don:

Pat Riley Statement

While I am disappointed by LeBron's decision to leave Miami, no one can fault another person for wanting to return home. The last four years have been an incredible run for South Florida, HEAT fans, our organization and for all of the players who were a part of it. LeBron is a fantastic leader, athlete, teammate and person, and we are all sorry to see him go.

Over the last 19yrs, since Micky and I teamed together, The Miami HEAT has always been a championship organization; we’ve won multiple championships and competed for many others. Micky, Erik and I remain committed to doing whatever it takes to win and compete for championships for many years to come. We’ve proven that we can do it and we’ll do it again.

This is such a pipe dream. We couldn't get one of those guys when it seemed like Lebron was here. Pau turned down 2/10 from the Lakers. If we do get Gasol/Ariza, I think we actually are a very strong team.

Yeah, when Lebron was here and we could only offer 5.4 million dollars. Now we can offer Deng 11M and still have 7M left over for Gasol and still give Wade a deal starting at 12M per

If we can get Gasol for 7m on a team that is likely not contending when he just turned down 10m, I'd be amazed. That being said It'd be a good team.

Edit: Sorry I see I messed up and told you it was 2/10 when I meant 2/20 or ten per year.

Damn he turned down 10M per, not total. Missed that. Hmmm.

Or is that because he wants to compete, not play with Swaggy P?

Does this mean we can grab Pau Gasol now?

I WOULD BE VERY happy if that happened. As a fellow Spaniard, I would go out and buy his jersey ASAP.

Funny how the Heat were on the verge of being the laughingstock of the nba to being congratulated due to everyone's dislike of Morey and how overrated he is.
