Re: POLL: Should LeBron's # Be Retired?
He was the best player during the franchises best run, but he left in the midst of the run, didn't stay all that long, and upon leaving, didn't thank the fans. Who are we retiring the jersey for, the player who no longer lives or plays here, or the fans who still love the team?
I'd let Bosh, Wade and Haslem have the ultimate say. They know best if he belongs among them. He's going to have his number retired in Cleveland. We don't need to be a me too franchise. Let his number hang in a rafter devoid of championship banners.

If the Heat ever retire that piece of **** 's jersey, I will stop watching Heat basketball.
I would not be able to root for a team with such low self-respect. We didn't retire Snaq's, and we shouldn't retire the snake's either.
Good post here!! I don't agree, but think your post here is spot on for an unbiased opinion.

GHF, why did you And1 this joker? I know he will say he's not anti-Heat anymore because LeBron left but he was/is the one of the biggest anti-LeBron/Heat trolls on the entire site.
Ease up on the hyperbole, bro. We don't have to deal with that decision for another 10 years or so. By then hopefully we have another couple of titles and you aren't going to be this angry.

I lived in Florida and was there when the Heat won in 2006 and was the biggest Wade supporter around. So how would you know if I was an anti Heat?

Now that he will wear 23 with Cleveland we should retire his number with us. might have historical sig if he never wins another one, esp with that number.

Whatever, I couldn't care less. You were the biggest Heat/LeBron (not only LeBron but Heat also) troll over the past season and before that. Save your trolling for the PC or your own Bulls board, not the Heat board.
All I ask is keep on giving us sig worthy quotes, man.

In fairness to JB, he's right, he did used to be fairly pro Heat. Then again, its not as if there wasn't an agenda behind it, this was back in the days of Kobe being compared to MJ, and throwing Wade against Kobe silenced those talks, with Wade never really being much compared to Jordan himself.
But also, JB has never called out other posters or really been rude in general so I don't mind him, even though his silly logic is comical at times.

That's exactly it. I wasn't around during the 08-10 Lakers run but I have heard it was much of the same from JB trying to downplay Kobe especially when the Lakers won in 10 and Kobe had 5. Also, somebody linked me to a thread for the LeBron Orlando series in 09 and that was the year LeBron won his first MVP and basically since then he has been trolling LeBron and then us in the last few years as we won our chips.
I don't mind him either, he's quite a comical (troll) poster and his posts make for fantastic sigs, just ask Iggiecc
Frankly, JB is never in a position to call out posters with his always shaky/non-existent logic and agenda driven posts (MJ GOAT!!!!!!!). He's not exactly like you or mopper, two high quality posters with sound logic who can occasionally call people out if they are not making sense.

He will. Every high profile athlete does it these days. He'll likely wait until the season is rolling around and then he'll pay for some full page ad in the paper or make a youtube video thanking the Heat and the fans.

To me it's more about quality than quantity.
But I'm more of a business minded individual.. So there's that.
Obviously I'm not saying he is equal to a wade, Zo, or ud but this isn't a loyal thing.
I absolutely agree that he goes up after wade and ud go up, but to say he shouldn't go up when he's literally on the top 10 on 90% of our franchise's stats is incredible. No denying that.
Sorry.
I don't think UD ever goes up. He's on the other end of the spectrum ... a lifer and loyal, but not a good enough player to merit the honor. IMO retiring a jersey should be reserved for high quality performance over an extended period of time. Retiring a number should be reserved for players who define a franchise. I love Tim Hardaway, but I think retiring his number was going overboard. He was here less than 5 1/2 seasons. I suppose if that is going to be the standard, then Lebron will get his number retired, but I won't like it.
He's the heart and soul of our Franchise. And based on how he got to the nba, and the amount of money he refused to STAY HERE (Done it 3 times now). IMO we should.
Besides, What is Miami if Mr. 305 isn't up?
I know everyone will disagree but I wouldn't retire Haslem's jersey. He has been very loyal to the Heat but to me there is a certain caliber of play that you need to reach to have your jersey in the rafters.

What? The Heat reached the NBA Finals. Just because the Spurs beat us, does not mean the run is over.
The Spurs lost in 2013 Finals, and they came back strong.
We could have done the same thing. The snake robbed our fans and our team of that chance. You cannot make the claim that a team that was just in the NBA finals 4 years in a row, was "over". It was not over, and you can't convince me of that in a million years
The piece of **** abandoned Wade, Riley, Arison, the fans, and the team in the middle of our run for his personal gain.
The Spurs actually outscored us the year we won and were up 3-2 and were one wild shot away from winning. We had probably the most embarassing finals performance of all time capped with a bunch of blowouts. It was clear which team was more likely to return and turn the tables on the other. You really can't compare the two situations at anything other than a superficial level of "both teams lost in the finals"
I've also ditched jobs for my own personal preference. How the hell do you pick jobs?

Who are you talking to? Nobody on this board is in the Heat front office or made the decision to retire Jordan's number themselves.
Btw, this has been said dozens of times on here before but they unretired it almost right afterwards, it hangs in a dark spot of the stadium now but the number itself isn't retired.

Re: POLL: Should LeBron's # Be Retired?
I just don't see it happening. Four years just isn't enough time to be a retired number. It's not all about rings, it's persevering through everything. Not just being here when the going is good and quitting when it gets tough, Pat made that very clear in his exit interview. Zo is a perfect example of why. As is Wade. Shaq is a perfect example of why not. Leave LBJ to CLE. He'll get his jersey retired there.
Had he tried (just try) to at least throw us a bone; sign and trade for rights to Wiggins...or at least sign and trade for our pick back, yeah, hang his jersey. He just wants to go home, but not at the expense of us in the meantime. Not at the expense of his "best friend" who took less so all of this could happen. Not at the expense of the team that did just about everything to put him in positions to win the titles he's won. Not at the expense of the owner who didn't write a nasty letter that all but cursed the ground he stood on. Not at the expense of the fans who didn't burn his jersey and mocked him with harsh adjectives to the likes of quitting and cowardice. But that didn't happen. He didn't try to help us out when he left. He didn't say a peep about the fans. Made up some bull **** story about being an example to kids in Ohio as if no kids exist in South FL. He poisoned the well. He deliberately **** us over. He held us in limbo so we couldn't sign any other FAs. He could have made his intentions very clear from the get go so we could have made necessary moves to put us in a better position than we are right now. We probably would not have traded up to draft Shabazz Napier and just went with BPA when our turn came along. We probably wouldn't have had to give Bosh a supermax out of desperation either because the FO wouldn't have been so blindsided. Should the FO been better prepared? Yeah. But it's hard to do that when no one moves because everyone is waiting for one player to announce a decision he's made years ago.
So happy that Wade took less again for us to afford Deng. Bosh for deciding that extra $40 million might be a bit more important than playing out west for a couple of ball hoggin crybabies. And for Riley for still being able to make something out of a really bleak situation, again. We could have ended up being a lottery team that quickly. While we're not absolute contenders any more, we're still a playoff team that's capable of making some nasty upsets. This could have been really bad seeing how season ticket holders have ticket contracts for two more seasons. Imagine that; forced to pay for two more season tickets to a lottery team. **** will hit the fan if/when he wins in CLE because he WILL say that it's sweeter than any of the ones he won down here in Miami or it means more, or something to that extent. Every single one of you short-sighted heat fans that currently want his number retired will be singing a different tune...It's like watching a predictable movie.
I don't hate LBJ or wish anything bad against him either. I just don't want his number retired here is all.

Q: LeBron's number should be retired. There won't be another Heat player in the next twenty years who is a two-time regular season MVP as well as Finals MVP. -- Winston, Auckland, New Zealand.
A: Actually, I think LeBron switching back to No. 23 with the Cavaliers will make it easier for the Heat. When No. 6 is raised to the rafters at AmericanAirlines Arena, it would be for what happened with the Heat, and only the Heat. Besides, No. 23 already has been retired by the Heat.Fair point lol
