A lot of posters here have a bit of a Jay Bilas complex and can't deal with Herro's T-Rex arms, hence all the love for KZ.
In all seriousness, I think there is a mix of fear Herro won't end up being a star and a fear that not trading him for a proven vet will prove to have been a mistake. In other words, lots of FOMO and YOLO.
To a point I get it, but Herro has turned out to be better than advertised. He's WAY better than Winslow, Okpala, or Yurt, but you'd never know it reading this forum sometimes. I don't know if Herro will become an all-star or a perennial All-NBA guy -- honestly, I doubt it -- but 21-5-4 on 45-40-87 is outstanding and on par with Darius Garland, Jordan Poole, or Cj McCollum. Herro is as good of a prospect as you could possibly ask for at 22 years old.

Looks like Butler's out there recruiting a PF. (from Butler's instagram stories which won't post correctly here)

The last thing I expected to see is Jimmy Butler having dinner with Kelly Olynyk.

Would be totally fine with a KO reunion. As frustrating a player as he is, has always been a good fit with Bam. Wouldn’t cost much either - Duncan and change. I know MWP has been advocating this one for a while.

Herro is not a kid and Alonzo should mind his business. Athletes are not kids and we need to stop treating them like that. Unless that posts was explicitly about the team, than I don't see why Alonzo or the Heat should be freaked out about it. Lebron posts cryptic tweets all the time and the team ain't calling him about. And so do many players and celebrities. Social media is part of the life, and the oldheads just need to accept it. As far as I'm concerned players can't post what they want if its not racist or its obviously targeted at the team/coach or a team mate
Herro's has been involved lately in a lot of immature s hit, we are not talking about if he is allowed to post or not, but a certain level of professionalism is required as a professional sports player, as for him airing his personal life is totally up to him, but it doesnt take from the fact it makes him look like an immature person. Are you really using Lebron as an example of how a player should act? Dont get me started the B itch move he made on us waiting until the end to announce he wasnt coming back and the Heat were left hanging without options. As well as airing his political views, not saying they are right or wrong but you should know those opinions will generate conflict, its a total lack of commom sence to say the least.
There's something weird about fans and how we see players compared to other celebrities. We want to cap what they can earn, we want them to play for our college teams without pay, we want them to entertain and keep their mouths shut about anything else.
They are people with their own views, lives and opinions. So if players have political views and air them, what do fans care ? You don't have to listen to them. I'm not gonna take my political cues from any celebrity or pretty much any advice from any celebrity. But I don't care if they air them.
And what did Herro do that was so immature that team related and not his personal business ? Post on insta. Please. Only thing I care about is, he putting work in the offseason. Is he adding weight. Is he working on his handles. Is he work on his finishing. The rest is pointless when it comes to the game. Unless his trashing his teammates or coach, he can post whatever quotes he wants however cringe they are.
The only point you have on the Lebron thing is how he left. For a team and FO and Fans that stood by him when everyone hated him and belittled him, he should have shown better good will and given that advance. But Riley has played players like that and GMs do it all the time. Its just this team Lebron turned the tables and the players were the ones doing it. It just for what that team went through its a little sad how things fell apart in the end and its just largely been forgotten
i dont really care about the money he makes or if he wants to run with 10 women a night, but as soon as he starts posting cryptic garbage about the organization or he get paid money he is not worth and caps our possibility to get other players then of course i will have a problem with it, of course on this i will have to blame the Heat for overpaying a player that is not worth the amount we have seen rumored. I guess i am used to the Alonzo Mourning and Ray Allen types, and not the Herro's and Waiters of this team.

Also it’s not like he will get paid crazy money, 30 mil is what Lowry is making. The Heat felt Lowry at what 36 years old, over weight and under sized is worth 30 million, using that logic, Herro for 30 mil at 22 years old is a bargain.

He literally just won 6MOY last year. The playoffs were underwhelming, but I would say the same about every other player on this team not named Jimmy Butler.

This could end up being a situation like Atlanta had with John Collins. I think the issue is not just the total amount of dollars, but also avoiding a sticky label that says Herro is a max player. As I said, Herro's numbers are comparable to Garland's (5-year, $195M), CJ McCollum (2 years, $70M), and Jordan Poole (no extension yet), but I don't think the Heat are comfortable paying Herro ~$35-$40M a season; I think Miami wants to keep it at around $30M a season.
Miami has never been shy about paying players. There are only two times I can remember Miami really squabbling about money when it came to a core player: Tim Hardaway and Dwayne Wade (when he went to Chicago). That said, Miami forked out money for an aging Shaq, Antoine Walker, and now is going to pay Jimmy Butler $52M when he is 36.
The answer, I think will be in giving Herro a base salary that is closer to Miami's preferred range with incentives that would take Herro's salary closer to his preferred range. Either that or allow him to become a RFA and let the market decide. That has its risks, but it is an option.

Heat wanted it to keep it around 25 mill per. Herro agent is pushing it to 30 mill per. That is where the negotiations were early on.SA37 wrote:Flash4thewin wrote:Spoiler:

Lowry isn't a 30-million-dollar value, it was the cost to sign what available upgrade there was that summer since this franchise held back signing longer extensions (which cost them talent) for multiple years for the 2021 plan to get Giannis (which they were never going to get).
Unless Herro is giving up money to stay in Miami, LET THE MARKET DICTATE HIS PRICE BY LETTING HIM HIT RESTRICTED FREE AGENCY, if he does better next season cool, pay him, if he doesn't then that's something to think about without being locked in long term. It's actually quite possible nobody offers him a large amount with how much interest there was with him this season trying to get draft picks to acquire Mitchell or KD. Miami can match any offer Herro accepts, and the minimum length offer has to be 3 years so at the minimum Miami can have Herro 4 more season if they want without extending him early.

It’s this simple. You don’t ruin the possibility of trading for a star at the deadline and you get a hyper motivated Herro. The pros outweigh the cons easily.
