No its not, Haslem did nothing special to shut down Dirk. In fact saying you 'shut down' someone that averaged 23/11/3 is ridiculous for starters, he may have shot a poor %, but he also shot a lot of FT's.

Get off this board for sheer blasphemy. That is an outright lie.

Posey was the best player we had defending Dirk, let's not rewrite history :D

Its so sad because even in the time that I have come out of lurking and begun to post on the board, I already know that whenever a certain, recently traded ex-Heat player comes up, there will always be a certain 3 members who say whatever bad they need to say about other Heat players to defend him.

Anyway, my answer is Haslem. If Beasley could at least rebound well I might put emotional reasons aside and pick him over UD.

I know what I saw and I saw Haslem play defense as good as anybody in the league could on Dirk. Posey did a good job too, but to say Haslem just fouled Dirk is absurd.

But if you want to base everything off the stats since you didn't actually WATCH the finals, Dirk had numbers very similar to his regular season numbers (with the exception of his much lower FG%), but much lower than what he was getting against the Grizzlies, Spurs, and Suns. Dirk had 20 or less points in 3 games of the finals, and did not once exceed 30 points. For a team to lock down another team's star player to those mortal numbers is amazing, especially because Tim Duncan, one of the league's best defensive players even today couldn't.

I'm not saying Posey didn't do a good job, I'm saying that Haslem didn't just foul Dirk and send him to the line.

No doubt Haslem, Beasley can barely keep it together while playing with Wade. He'd get a mental breakdown in the reg season and deep in the playoffs when no mistakes are allowed. Imagine Lebron barking at him after he's made a turnover or a silly mistake. Haslem has the right mentality a championship mentality. Plus we don't need "potential" now we need stability and consistency.

Exactly, it's all about the champion mentality. Beasley gets better stats, but Haslem won us a championship. Beasley has yet to demonstrate he can step up in a playoff atmosphere, Haslem has shown he can with 17 points Game 6 against the Mavs.

Maybe Beasley someday can show he has the ability to step it up, but why take the risk? Go with what you know.

u gotta be kiddin' me

this is a no contest. beasley needs to go to a bad team and be the #1 option and put up numbers. then on his next contract he can maybe go to a better team and learn how to be a championship player. haslem will accept the (limited) role available to him and do well with it. the rebounding and defense alone makes this worth it

There is no basis for this statement. The kid has been traded, no need for all this baseless drivel.

Absurdity, Wade won us a championship. Haslem wasn't even one of the best 5 players on our team then. I fail to see how riding Wade's coattails to one championship makes him a winner and 'championship player', especially when he was the staple of a 15 win team. His playoff performances haven't exactly been stellar either.

And stop saying i didn't watch the series, because i did, and have many times.

Then what's the point of the thread? Why do people get so butthurt when anything negative is said about Beasley?

In almost any other circumstance I would chose Beasley, but with Mike Miller and Lebron James already signed on for a championship run, I choose Haslem.

It would have been interesting to watch Beasley grow on this team but Im not sure it would have been for the best. I doubt he would relish coming off the bench for spot minutes; we already know Haslem can and will do that and give you good spot minutes anytime his number is called. And for that reason, I choose Haslem who knows his role and leaves it all on the court.
