I'll pass on both.

I was thinking the same thing. When you put names next to the picks ie (Beasley+Marion for Brand+Westbrook/Lopez/Love etc), I think a Beasley Marion combination is better. Even if Bayless falls to 7, you go from 3 star players (yes Beasley is a star in the making) to 2 star players and 1 player who might take longer to develop.

They can't trade Maggette, and I agree that Marion/#2 for Brand/#7 isn't the best deal for us. That is why in my original post I said that we should try to keep Marion and Haslem in any deal for Brand. I'm not advocating it, I just said that is probably their counter to our insistance on them taking back Blount/Banks/#2.

If I had to guess, I would predict the most likely version of the trade would be Blount/Haslem/#2 for Brand/#7 - and I'm not even sure I would do that.

As far as the Marion/#2 for Brand/#7, I don't think thats a good deal for us either, but I wouldn't be overly disappointed. To salvage it, I would try to deal Haslem for a sweet-shooting SF (Miller) and grab Bayless at 7

This how I want the draft to go.

1. Bulls-Rose
2. Heat-Beasley
3. Wolves- Mayo
4. Sonics- Lopez
5. Memphis- Love
6. Knicks- Bayless
7. Clippers- Whoever

If Riley likes Bayless as much as he says and he isn't there for the Clippers pick, I don't see how making that trade to get Brand. If Mayo is taken 3rd I also don't see him trading with Seattle because he would want Mayo, not Lopez.

To me, it would be pretty dumb to make a "win-now" move by trading for Brand, while at the same time depending on a 19-year-old we draft at #7 to come in and the 3rd option on a "contending" team.

Those two concepts don't add up. We either have to go all in on winning now, or all in on rebuilding.

Like when the Celts traded for Ray Allen last year to go with their young core, pretty dumb move. Pierce, Allen and some young dudes were not gonna win a title. But then they went all in with the KG trade, and it made sense. Pierce/Allen/KG could indeed win a title.

So if it is Marion/2 for Brand/7 ... I'd like to see #7 repackaged to get us an impact veteran who can help Wade/Brand win a title in the small window they would have together.

In other words, either catapult us to true contender status with a Big 3 centered around Wade/Brand, or just take Beasley and look to add another lottery talent to insure our future. No half-measures Riley!

So according to this guy, the Heat are asking too much from the Clips for #2 as of yesterday. Good! I would expect nothing less of Riley.

The thing is.. This team doesn't have a championship level PG or a C that can defend. It doesn't have depth either. It doesn't make sense to go after Brand right now, but yet next off-season. Take your pick, whether it be Beasley or Mayo (trade down with Minnesota), and sign one of Boozer or Brand next off-season. That fills the roster out much better then trading the #2 for them this year.

And I can't believe you would trade Haslem+ Beasley + Blount for Mayo. Beasley has much more value then Mayo alone, so why throw Haslem in there as well? Makes absolutely no sense at all.

I think trading your best 2 assets in one move to just get Brand is not smart. Like someone else said, someone like Maggette would need to be involved as well although he can't be traded now. IMO a move back to #4 while ridding ourselves of Blount AND Banks would be the best move if Mayo is there.

We then could sign Brand or Boozer next year and STILL give Marion a decent extension, have our #1 option (Wade) and a potential star player who can contribute immediately in Mayo. That is "four" players. Add a center for the MLE and a LLE backup and we have contender.

Two quick responses to HeatSince88's above comments:

First, I agree we should move #7 for a third star if we end up trading for Brand. We also have an attractive trading chip in Haslem to deal around.

Second, the fact that the Heat want a lot for #2 hopefully means we are asking them to take back Blount and Banks.

Something I thought yesterday...any chance of offering the full MLE to Josh Childress?

Uggh

I am not a big TMac fan and Battier is not worth giving up Beasley AND Marion, not to mention we would have to S&T JWill to Houston.

I don't like it since it doesn't fix any of our needs.

Yeah but trading for Brand now allows us to use our MLE and LLE to fill out the roster, not to mention trading Haslem and possibly the #7. We do have options to fill out our team by making that deal now, and if you look at Boston's model, they had lots of FAs sign with them for cheap once their Big 3 was in tact. I would expect we would have the same opportunity in FA, if we could get a guy like Kurt Thomas to think he could get a ring with us.

Uh...duh!

Hobo off the Streets/Haslem/Battier/T-Mac/Wade

You kidding me? I'd do that any day!
T-Mac is a choker and he'd be a great 2nd star in this team and BAttier is awesome, besides he won't mess up Wade's shoulder either!

That would kill our cap space next season. I think we need more than a Josh Childress.

That's just as bad. Tmac is constantly hurt and the #2 has more value then Tmac. Battier<<<Marion.

I would be incredibly pissed off if Riley goes and trades Marion and #2 for Brand. He would of lost his mind. Wade-Brand wins absolutely nothing next year with no assets around them except Haslem.

Hopefully that means we're offering 2+Blount+Banks for Brand+7.

too much for TMac & Shane, but maybe T-Mac is the name that had Donnie Walsh's eyes popping out even further than his normally fishy face already does

Return to Miami Heat
