Am not agaisnt trading to get better.

But I think a Wade, Marion, Beasley

Is better than Wade, Magette, Brand.

I think Maggette is solid player, but reminds me to much of D Wade, and I don't think he will mesh that well. with Wade, just to similar of playing styles.

Brands defense is better than Beasley's though, but Marion is a flexible player in that end, so it might not be outright greater to make such a trade.

If we can get Brand, get rid of Blount. I might.

Listen i do prefer young players if that young player is the most talented player in the draft and can team up with wade for the next DECADE (not a 2-3 year window). I understand mortgaging the future if you are getting back a guarantee hall of fame talent who immediately makes u one of the conference favorites like the Shaq from 4 years ago or Garnett this past year. In my opinion i don't think brand is that kind of player so i don't want to give up Beasley to get him. He missed all but 8 games last year, and he hasn't proved he can play and entire year healthy. U want to put all of our future hopes on 2 players coming off season ending injuries? Now trade Marion, Haslem, i don't care but keep the wade/beasley combo together, again that's my opinion. This was started because somebody brought up trading beasley to get brand, and i am against making that trade.

"It preserves options to make the team better," Falk said. "Clearly, if Elton decided he wanted to simply max out the dollars, he would have stayed in the deal, had a monster year and a lot more teams will have cap room next year."

Wow, fail.

That pretty much means he opted out so they can sign Baron Davis AND re-sign Brand (yes its actualyl possible if they let Maggette walk). Guess that's what he was talking about when his agent mentioned the finals and wanting a team with another star.

EDIT: Plus with them not extending Livingston.

I think you missed the part where I said "I'd lean toward keeping Beasely myself."

I'm pretty excited to see what Wade-Marion-Beasley can do this year, and I love the possibility of a 20/10 stud with crazy skills on my team for the next 15 years.

The Wade/Maggette/Brand thing is something I posted because I think RILEY might try it given his penchant for such moves, and yes I think it could actually work the way he would envision it. But if it's up to me (and it's NOT) I'd have a BIG problem with letting go of Beasley.

I think you and I are in the same camp there - I just don't share your dissing of Brand and Maggette.

elton wont sign with the 76ers, the heat I think have a legit chance to get him. It would have to be through sign and trade though. I dont know the heat have anything the clippers want since the heat wont give up beasley

ok I read your post again (maybe i should do that more often before replying :D ) and i think we are on the same page. Maybe i came off a bit tough on brand, i think he is a very good player but not the player shaq was 4 years ago when we traded for him or garnett was this past year (not worth mortgaging our future). I would love to get brand ( i do have some reservations about the contract length he wants but i can live with it) if we can keep beasley, i am not for trading beasley to get brand.

In honor of the bulls board who want to get brand and maggette offering hinrich, gooden, hughes, and a future 1st  I counter the offer with marion, blount, banks, and not one but TWO second round picks (our own and cleveland's). If that's not a better offer i don't know what is :D

Get Brand, don't give up Beasley.

Wade, Marion and Brand would be mighty fun though, and would also match-up very well with Boston.

Actually I am torn.

Reilly, just get us out of this crap and make us relevant again. How you do it doesn't worry me, just make it happen.

Last time we "mortgaged our future" we brought home a title. Perhaps we go there again.

I do like the idea of Beasley as a stud for years to come though. Oh stuff it, it is too hard. I don't have what it takes to be a GM today, maybe tomorrow.

Noo, we need to keep Beasley. I'm all for the S&T for Marion and fillers but we must keep Beasley at all costs. He and Wade should be untouchables now, especially as Wade-Maggette/Marion-Brand is not a better trio than Ray-Pierce-KG.

Its possible both Brand and Baron will play on one team, maybe the Warriors.

I'm thinking of this scenario, that if Clipper signed one of their local guy Baron DAvis a contract, Miami should trade Marion to GS Warriors for a future pick to have a cap space to sign Brand. I think the Warriors will agree to it considering I've seen a lot of Marion trade proposal in their own board and at the trade board.

Guys, this is where the leverage game comes into play, just like it did back with Eddie Jones and Brian Grant.

EJ wanted to go to Miami, but we didn't have the cap space. He instead used Chicago as leverage, saying if the Hornets didn't work out a sign and trade with us, he'd go there leaving them with nothing.

Grant told Portland that he'd sign for the MLE if we didn't work out a sign and trade.

In both cases, the team in question chose to get something for a prime asset, rather than let them walk for nothing.

If Brand wants Miami, he's going to have to be prepared to take one of those avenues. In this case, the only thing we should be willing to give is Shawn Marion IMO...

Bypassing Brand to wait for fool's gold in 2010 is probably the worst idea I have heard in a long time.

If we want to have DWade leave that yr, wasting the next 2 seasons is a perfect way to go...

But I too agree that by no means give up Beasley for Brand. We ought to be able to do it w/out adding a cheap future star...

Scuttle-but out of L.A. is that they renounce all their free agents but Brand, and make a run at both Brand and the newly opted out Baron Davis:

Pg: Davis / Knight
Sg: Gordon / Mobley
Sf: Thornton / Tim Thomas
Pf: Brand /
Cc: Kaman / Jordan

Now, I don't care who you are, that's a nice team.

If Riley lands Brand without giving up Beasley I'll crap my pants and eat it all and send a picture to Riley and post it here as well. Ok...I'm excited but not that bad...no turd eating here.

No matter who the Clips say they want, they are still the Clips and any player claiming to want to "win now" will have a hard time selling that if he signs with the Clips.

Clipps will need to sign Brand first to a deal ~12.5 mill, then sign Baron to a similar deal. Brand put out the statement (or his agent did) about opting out, not for more money but to build a better team. That's enough for Davis to opt out and join the Clippers.

I agree, that's a nice team. Is Thornton a SF? I haven't gotten to see him play. He's a bit of a tweener I thought.
