I honestly don't want to see another player wearing 6 for the Heat. These last four years have been a blast and his jersey being retired would be a nice homage to that.

POLL: Should LeBron's # Be Retired?

Post#402 » by Heat_team02 » Mon Aug 4, 2014 11:53 am

Great Player X becomes a free agent but insists on playing with his number.

The Heat are retiring too many numbers including #23 which was never worn by a Heat player.

In this situation you guys are acting like girls, got your feelings hurt? Now don´t want to retire the player who gave you 4 finals appearances & 2 chips? You see Joe Johnson getting retired in Atlanta because he persevered? Haha because he was there during the good & bad times? Get the **** out its all about the rings.

Shaq was a vagabond disrespecting everyone and being the second option when u won the ring, comparing him to Lebron in his prime is well at best naive and at worst (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Cherish the good times and keep it rolling, recognise what he did for your franchise albeit as short as it was by hanging the **** jersey in the rafters.

The heat will eventually retire the mans jersey. I wouldn't but I'm not the owner. But to make a case for one extreme while completely dismissing the fact that perseverance and longevity plays a huge role if not a greater role is just as (Please use more appropriate word) if not more than what you're stating.

No, the original poster just pretended as if those in here who are against retiring LeBron's number are for retiring Jordan's number because it's hanging up in the rafters. digg211 just clarified that just because it's hanging up there it doesn't mean anybody approves of it. That was actually pretty easy to understand.

This thread is still going? I see a lot of outsiders are voting yes. Given revelations of the last few weeks, you still want to retire the jersey of the man who played defense against us when he left? No hard feelings at all, but out of respect to the team, hell no. Jerseys aren't retired for transients, and that's what Bron will end up being for us. On top of that, I don't think Pat and Micky are too fond of the idea either. They sure aren't fond of him leaving.

What should anyone care of the opinion of outsiders? You're essentially saying, "LOL. I know why someone should important to you more than you do." Maybe your team should retire his number.

LeBron should ABSOLUTELY have his jersey retired by the Heat.

Shaq on the other hand, should not.

I know Shaq played a huge role in the 2006 team winning the whole thing, but I still feel the Heat trading for him was a mistake and they should have kept Butler and Odom.

Shaq ran out Van Gundy (One of the best coaches in the NBA), missed 41 games in 2006/2007, quit on the team the following year by refusing to play, forced his way out, pushed for the disastrous Ricky Davis trade, bad-mouthed Wade behind his back, and then trashed everyone from Riley/Quinn/Davis/Medical staff on his way out.

He also has trashed Pat Riley several times since he's left.

Odom gave more to the Lakers than Shaq gave the Heat and he and Butler were good guys for team-chemistry...something Shaq destroyed.

Micky Arison said a few months ago that trading them was very difficult because of how much the organization loved them.

No.

Retiring players' numbers, imo, is a stupid tradition. Remember the name and the game, not the number. However, since this stupid tradition will be carried on...

LeBron was a piece to the puzzle, but I don't reference him with Miami. Yes he played for Miami, yes he accomplished a lot in that time span; however he will always be associated with Cleveland, no matter what. His championships in Miami will always be a footnote in his career, regardless of if he wins a championship in Cleveland or not. And if he does win one in Cleveland, it'll be the one he cherishes the most and will say means the most to him because he loves that city. Everything he has done off the court has been for Cleveland.

It's a similar situation with Shaq (ommiting the community service stuff), although he did not play in Miami during his prime. When you think of Shaq, you think of the Lakers. (No, his number should not be retired in Miami either.)

The only players who belong up there are Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning, and eventually Dwyane Wade, who has been THE key component to Shaq coming (and winning) and LeBron and Bosh coming (and winning).

If Miami had any sense, they'd take down Jordan's number (if you put his up because of his 'contributions to the game,' you absolutely have to put Magic and Bird's numbers there, too). The whole point is to commemorate guys who [i]played for the franchise[\i]. Let the league deal with honoring players globally.

Pat Riley is obsessed with trying to add Miami as one of the NBA's storied franchises, but dangling a bunch of banners isn't going to do that. The championship banners speak well enough for the era of the Big 3.

We dont win that first ring without Shaq. Also Shaq was more than instrumental in getting an experienced elite coach to take over. Pat can motivate, Pat will fight for calls, Pat gets the respect. Stan is not in the same level. I respect Shaq for doing what had to be done in order to win. Shaq brought the attention and relevance to this organization which was only topped by Lebron. Yes things didnt end well with Shaq but im grateful for the ring we got.

There's no logical case for his number not to be retired but I wouldn't do it if I was the front office. People love to bring up longevity to compare players. For me, that should also apply to retiring players numbers based on how many years they were on the same team. That's just me.

I am sick and tired of this "He brought you 4 finals appearances and 2 rings" type of talk.

IT WAS A BIG 3 COLLECTIVE EFFORT. The Big 3 brought us 4 finals and 2 rings. Not 1 person.
