Wait...110 over 3 years in Miami and he may get moved as an expiring the 3rd year or he doesn't get traded, takes the 52 million dollar option (sent wherever Miami sends him) then he has to find a 2 year contract to make 60 million over the next 2 years (age 37 & 38) to just match Miami's offer or worst case scenario, take the MLE (non tax player) for 2 years (total of ~32 million v 60 Miami wanted to give him) and almost go to whatever team he wants to go to that isn't in the tax (only 6 mil a year for MLE for taxpaying teams).

BTW, the money is going to get crazy very soon.

2025-2026 - 154 million
2026-2027 170 million
2027-2028 187 million
....
2032-2033 ~300 million - (30% of the cap max 100 million)

8 years away from 100 million dollar per year players.

That's wasting resources, you then are down a shooter and an expiring contract next year which are assets if you don't cut him... which is my point of giving up assets.

Miami could cut/stretch Butler next year, but I doubt they'd do that, it would slightly mess with the summer of 2027 (which this whole situation is about).

Thanks, this is a pretty interesting stat especially seeing Bam on there so high on the list! I'd have expected more PG's on it high up, especially the ones that get to play with big man lob threats/

I'm assuming a good percentage of the assists come on DHO plays, screening off 3s for Duncan & Herro, which they shoot around a 37% & 40% clip respectively. So what that tells my untrained eye is that they make a significantly higher percentage of their shots when Bam is involved in the action than when taking 3s as iso plays or in other action (not involving Bam)

Been saying this brother!! Even when he’s struggling to score he’s still 90% of the defense, a top rebounder in the league, and one of the best playmaking bigs as the hub of our offense. He does so many little things that go unnoticed, either the Jazz or blazers game (maybe both) was a master class of the little things that don’t show on the stat sheet in the 4th.

Does it hurt us moving forward with other mercs? Maybe, thats another reason I say build thru the draft. You cultivate the right type of player and culture.

Perhaps Erny should consider the side of logic where Miami doing this (as he infers) can only mean they have nothing to lose. If they thought they could influence a better return, then they wouldn't, so this really shows that there is already nothing out there, and any nuclear option makes no difference.

Miami does have something to lose. If Butler were to just opt in for next year Miami may have to get rid of some assets to get out of the tax. Once July 1st comes around, Miami can't just move Butler for expiring contracts to get under the tax, they'll have to lose in trades or flat out give up assets to send contracts out to get under the tax.

If he opts in the heat will just go into negotiations for a contract buyout. We have no moves to make this upcoming offseason due to our cap. Its all about 2026 offseason when the omly players under contract will be Bam, Ware, JJJ and Herro.

Maybe someone trades a bunch of expirings and a second for a year rental.. who knows.. but we arent doing **** this coming offseason, and we are not taking in any salary beyond butlers option.

Right now, Miami can have around 45 million in expirings, that plus some assets like a young player or 2, maybe a draft pick can possibly get you something big... next season, as in one of the 2026 FA class before they hit FA so you can have bird rights and a lower cap hold while you go out and get a 2nd good player.
