People keep putting Beasley with Duncan, Boozer and those TRUE BIG PF's. He is not even close to being 6'8 Elton Brand. The biggest concern with Beasley is his size to play PF which is the reason why we would draft him. If he can't play PF then he is a SF. Do we draft a SF with the #1 pick?
If Beasley was 6'11 - 7'0 or even 6'9 but a hefty 250lbs with his same skills, we wouldn't even talk about Derrick Rose. I have big concerns about Beasley's size to play PF. If he can't play down low with the big bodies, then what is the point? He becomes a perimeter player.
Maybe Beasley will grow, get bigger and be able to bang with the bigger bodies like Duncan, Boozer etc in the future but you can't deny that it is a huge concern.
If Beasley doesn't develop his body, then we have a duplicate on our roster at SF with Marion and still HUGE holes at PG and PF/C. Rose basically covers one of those holes (and probably the most important) for years.
I am not even discussing potential or talent anymore because both sides have very valid points but as far as risks, you can't deny that drafting Beasley is a bigger risk than Rose.

David West is the same size and weight as Beasley and he is an all-star PF..currently outplaying Tim Duncan.
Guys like Millsap, Landry, Powe, Haslem, Bass are even shorter and were drafted in the 2nd round and even undrafted cause of their size..and theyre productive players..these guys just have a nose for the ball...just like Beasley does.

This Rose vs. Beasley argument reminds me a lot of those Posey vs. Wright arguments last season.
The majority wanted Wright, visualizing this team running fast break like the Suns and Wade/Wright hooking up for alley oops..the athleticism and size was the biggest draw just like Rose.
While some didnt want Posey because of his problems with Riley and because of that picture on the net. He would be a "distraction" to the team. same concerns shown for Beasley.
The majority wanted Wright, visualizing this team running fast break like the Suns and Wade/Wright hooking up for alley oops..the athleticism and size was the biggest draw just like Rose.

Driving me crazy. It's as though you all know exactly how well your "champion" will do - which is fantastic and how badly the other guy will do.
You've stated the same things over and over and over again. Please shut up now. If beasley is as good as the Beasley cheerleaders say then we will be fantastic, if Rose is as good as the rose cheerleaders say - we will be fantastic.
Of course if either player is as average as the opposition's cheerleaders say we may as well up Ricky D.

Please, this is beyond ridiculous. Posey was way less of headcase than the reported accounts of Dorell Wright that he is beyond immature outside the court. Just like Beasley, their is reports Beasley attention span is worst than a 2 year old.CB4MiamiHeat wrote:This Rose vs. Beasley argument reminds me a lot of those Posey vs. Wright arguments last season.

I was one of the persons that favored Posey over Wright. I was one of the few people that had enough sense to know Ricky Davis trade wasn't as good as most Heat fans thought, when everyone was falling head over heels over it.
There is a reason a guy like Pat Riley reportedly wants Rose. Their is reason why know he has become the favorite to become the number one pick. By most people that are following the draft.

Everything else around him just failed. -- Not his fault.
He'd still be a nice 6th man for any team....

Comparing Rose to the player in your scenario who was a bust doesn't mean Rose will be a bust as well. If anything Beasley is the more uncertain "potential" guy because he could be a tweener or a franchise player, while Rose is probably more of a "sure thing" but perhaps not providing as much if both meet their potential.

We won a title with Walker. We made the Playoffs twice with Walker. We had the worst year ever with Ricky ever.Sideshow Bob wrote:I'd take Ricky Davis and his expiring contract over Antoine Walker 100 out of 100 times.
And we added a worst contract with Blount, dumped a 31st pick. Yeah, I would do it over and over again(sarcasm)

Wiretap says the T'Wolves might be shopping their second round pick (#31) for a 2nd rounder next year.
We own the Sixers 2nd round pick in 2009 from the DQ for Jason Smith deal.
Why not if your Riley try and swap picks? Players like Ryan Anderson, Mario Chalmers, DeVon Hardin, possibly Jason Thompson.

I think you have it backwards.. a guy thats biggest strength is size, athleticism, and potential where the offense in college was predicated on playing 1 on 1 is probably more of a risk than a guy that put up 26-12 on a much beter conference with bad teammates and double teams.
You would think a Heat fan wouldnt buy this tweener stuff..remember D-Wade? He was too short for SG? Not even close his wingspan was huge ad he proved he could play the SG position.
I honestly think wingspan or standing reach is a better way to judge than height...Beasley has a huge wingspan.

Beasley concern is his maturity, attitude, and whether he's quick enough to guard SFs and big enough to guard PFs.

the maturity and attitude was a question mark at the beginning of the season..havent heard nothing about it since....its all overblown and pranks..just like Rose getting in a fight for a girl is stuff that just happens.
Rose also has question marks about his decision making in the half court and turnovers..hes never really played the traditional PG position.
Beasley also tends to force shots over double teams...it could be cause of his bad teammates or lack of court vision..well see.

He has good wingspan, but not freakish. He has 7 foot wingspan, a guy like Tracy McGrady has 7 3, Shaq has over 7 6, Duncan around 75, a guy like Kevin Durant has 7 5. He has a good wingspan, but nothing outlandishly freakish.CB4MiamiHeat wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

I read a report Dwight Howard has a 7 8 wingspan.
The tweener arguement, might not work to the Miami Heat fans. But to many scouts and Pat Riley, it seems to have an effect on. I go with the scouts and Riley instead of the Heat fans that thought we had a shot at a title before the season started.

Why in the world would you want a PF guarding SF?
Because Beasley is so athletically talented he can play sf part time but there is no question he is a PF.
The funny thing is knowing Pat he says one thing then does the opposite to get the max value in anything he does. If word out of the Heat organization says Rose then Beasley will be the pick and visa versa. Remember how word out of the Heat organization was we were going to pick Kaman, then picked Wade instead
