Don't know too much about the cap, but wouldn't us cutting Duncan next year before his money is guaranteed get us out of the tax in an extreme situation?

Yes. 9.8 million is guaranteed with a dead cap hit of 10 million. Would put us below lux tax around 5-6 million with the assumption of 52 million Butler opt in. This would allow us to perform any type of S&T if needed but also drops an expiring asset for nothing while wasting dead cap money.

Sounds perfect, wasting assets for nothing more than saving Mickys pockets is our speciality

I was thinking as a last resort where Jimmy opts in but we can't get out of the money because everyone wants to give us longer bad money or they try to rake us over the coals asking for a 1st to pick up Duncan or Terry. If we're going to try to make sure we're not in the repeater tax and are going to lose something in the process I'd rather loose Duncan than a 1st. Being that next year is the last year of his contract his money would only be dead money in our books for that season

I get they are a desperate buyer because they are now on the KD timeline, but that doesn't make their assets any more appealing.
I'd rather just extend Jimmy for another 2/3 years and see him through then take on the remaining 2/3 years of Beal's deal.
Miami doesn't have to do a trade with just Phoenix, they could send Beal to a 3rd team that he's ok with and that needs shooting.
That’s severely limited due to the no trade clause. Why would he want to leave his current situation for anything other then a chip team? Stat pad? Give me a break he’s already paid
Sometimes people have some pride in their work and I would think being a 3rd wheel when you should be at least a 2nd wheel isn't very fulfilling. He's got his contract, he does understand he can't do it by himself which is why he got a no-trade clause to make sure he didn't go anywhere he didn't want to go and Phoenix was a way better situation than Washington ALTHOUGH his first choice was to go to play in Miami who he called and they basically didn't get back to him until he called again. This FO seems to have an issue with giving or taking away respect from some high level players. Riley got LeBron but he basically ran him off by calling him out, Wade left for money after the blood and sweat he gave the franchise and now Butler was called out by Riley and seems to want out. Maybe Riley sometimes pushes it a bit too far? Riley's had an incredible, historic career but that doesn't mean he doesn't have some faults.
On Beal having a no trade clause, I know that, that's why I wrote to a 3rd team that he's ok with. For example... Kuzma and Brogdon as the main players for a trade by Washington.

I do wonder if someone comes out of nowhere to offer players they no longer want but Miami could use to trade for Butler just to get draft assets in a S&T in the summer.
Like I mentioned earlier in this thread... an example like Kuzma and Brogdon as the main players for a trade by Washington. They're probably looking for a 1st and maybe a 2nd and expiring contract for those 2 combined which might not happen, if they can turn them into Butler, they might be able to get more for him in a S&T this next summer working with Butler on that.

He should be sent to the Skyforce and learn to stop shooting like Winslow.

The problem is the front office probably still values him as a lottery pick in trade instead of as an attachment to Rozier or Duncan. This is why we’ll be stuck with run it back till Riley’s 100.

They’ll refuse to trade him for Fox or AD or something this summer
