I don't think Oden should join Miami, as there is too much pressure and spotlight, not to mention he is also injur prone and the Heat could easily waste money by signing him. Plus, didn't Oden also have some alcohol issues when he was in the NBA? If that's the case then Miami's nightlife would not suit well for him.

For his sake, he should pick the Pelicans but I do think Miami will probably end up signing him.

Your execution of the rarely attempted anti-jinx/reverse psychology combo platter was simply masterful. You, sir, are an artist.

Gonna have to wait another week, people. Decision part 2...lets go. Someone call ESPN

Dude.. At least with bron, 50 of the 60 mins was about his career accomplishments up until that point.

For oden.. I don't think they have enough material for even a 2 min commercial. Lol

They could get to 3 minutes with some highlights of dunks, rebounds in traffic power blocks, and dick pics.

NBA free-agent center Greg Oden will decide next week where to sign, a league source told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.

Oden, 25, has received varying contract offers from the Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks, a source said. All deals are pending Oden passing a physical.

Oden worked out and rehabbed in front of the Kings, Pelicans and Heat in his hometown of Indianapolis on Tuesday. The 90-minute session included drill work, post play and running.

"He's coming along," said one scout who attended the workout. "Good to see him out there working.”

ESPN: "No offers yet."

Yahoo: "Received offers."

Im trying to figure out something, Oden is not gonna get a long term guaranteed deal here, so whichever team he signs with, w/e contract it is. Hes playing for the NEXT contract. So lets look at his perspective. Sure, playing for the Pelicans could lessen the pressure, the spotlight wont be on him. But question, what will get him the biggest contract after this one? Playing for the Pelicans, on a team that will never make the playoffs, or playing for the heat, possibly making an impact on a title team. Playing in the finals.

U could argue both ways, it ends up depending on Oden, if hes scared of the pressure, scared of the spotlight. Then sign with NO. But if he REALLY wants a big payday after this short term one. Playing out of the spotlight isnt exactly beneficial. And actually, its not like the heat will ask him to contribute right away, get u 20 and 10 a night. We're asking for limited minutes, and offering him time to get back into game shape. Obviously, if he never plays, then hes not gonna showcase anything. But i dont think hes Eddy Curry. I think he WILL make some kind of impact. Maybe birdmanesque, and that will get him a big long term team with some team.

Hes injury prone, well obviously. But that has to be the risk the heat are willing to take. I mean u look at it this way, at this point in free agency. Who else out there are u willing to give money to that will help us? I cant even name 3. Gary Neal has popped up and i wouldnt mind him but we need SIZE. U gotta take this risk, if ur the heat. It might pan out, it might not. But u have to.

Playing in the spotlight or not has no barring on his next contract. Being healthy and his production will determine his market value especially at the position he plays. Other teams don't care if he played on a contending team or not. If he is healthy and productive teams will be banging on his door. Al Jefferson has been getting big contract after big contract, and played on some of the least televised teams in the nba.

I guess ur right, but tell that to Tyson Chandler, who wouldnt have gotten that big of a deal with the knicks if he wasnt a key piece of the mavericks championship run. He got a max contract, and now we all see what hes REALLY worth. Dont think he wouldve gotten that deal playing on a bottom feeder team

You cant get minute by minute ticker on players negotiations accurate. You going to lose your mind doing that. It was funny reading people reactions to the media toying with fans by giving minute by minute updates on whats going on in his head before he sign. Just wait until he signs a contract, that's the only truthful report that really means anything.

The championship did not get him that big contract. He would of gotten that regardless, there are so many over paid centers in league history that played in purgatory. Chris Kaman, Andrew Bogut, Andris Biedrins, and even Kwame Brown who every fan clown on.

So far, surprised yes. But ESPN has been more reliable. Yahoo had reported that Oden was only working out for the Pelicans and Kings. And ESPN included the heat. If im not mistaken, he worked out for all 3 teams. Not sure which one is correct right now tho....smfh

Hmm I don't think chandler would have gotten that same contract had it not been for his best season (with the mavs). The dude kept getting traded thanks to the silly contract the bulls handed him in 05.

Poor bulls expected a chandler-eddy curry duo lol

He's basically getting the same amount of money now that he was getting in his previous contract or at least in that same range.

Btw do you guys remember when the thunder almost traded for him??? Thank god that trade didnt happen or else they would have had chandler, durant, westy and wouldn't need to trade green for Perkins.

Talk about a butterfly effect lol

So this is what it's come to. A bunch of you pissed off and calling the offseason coming off our 2nd title in a row a "failure" if we don't sign a center who hasn't played a minute of basketball in three years. Get a life people.

I don't think we will land Oden... unless we are offering him the MMLE. He is looking for the most money as possible because of all his injuries. But I wouldn't even give him the vet min, using the MMLE would be risky.

Man we'll see.

well i would call this offseason a failure. Not because we didnt sign Oden, (if we dont) but because we did absolutely nothing in terms of additions. We just amnestied mike miller. Thats is, with the problems we have in terms of size, thats a failure, doing NOTHING, The pacers pushed us to 7, the spurs were 5 seconds from winning it in 6. We were dead last in rebounding last year.

I ALSO wouldnt call it a success even if we DO sign Oden. Because nobody knows what he will do. But its better than doing nothing...

I'll tell you one thing - IF we get Oden, and IF he doesn't break again - this is the biggest move we made since getting the big 3 togther.

A healthy Oden will make us the big 4, literally.

Yeah but you're right, soooooooooooo much IF. I think it's hard to imagine why we'd stand pat given how closely we were played. Indiana will improve and they were murdering us from the inside. Perhaps Riley is banking on Wade being healthy next time, but that's not exactly the best gamble given the recent history. I hope we do something to get better.

a healthy Oden is the only big(we can acquire) that Spo would look at and say..how can I make it work with this guy. That's why we didn't expend energy on old ass Dalembert and Camby. They're just Dampier all over again. To modify what we're currently doing will require an impact player.

With summer league over now, I just want us to finish signing free agents so I can fully focus on Dolphins football already.

Oden will never be healthy...Realistically if he does sign with Miami our best hope is that he's able to stay on the floor when absolutely needed. Oden's knees are shot. Young guy, but he's had some devastating injuries. His body is not "built" for heavy minutes or this league long term, unfortunately. I don't expect him to ever be "dominant" but a "serviceable" Oden just might be enough to put Miami over the edge.

Return to Miami Heat
