Wouldn't be able to bring myself to trade for a maxed out, incredibly injury prone player like Kristaps.

At what price?
For the same price I'd rather have Hield on this team due to Robinson being so one dimensional. Hield probably has some baggage, but we can't be too picky when we're in the position we're in. Also, there's simply no way I'm paying Robinson $22 million next season.

Porzingis is only 25 and serves as a perfect fit for Bam and Butler to play off of.
Normally I'd fight this because Porzingis' weaknesses can be seen in his injury history ... and his body ... and his soft ass attitude.
But there's no way that I'm trading anything more than expiring contracts to help the Mavs get out of that deal. No way!
I prefer not to overpay for my predictable train wrecks.

Sorry but I don't think any of the realistic moves we have been talking about help us at all going up against them next year. Keep in mind, this is KD's first year back from the Achilles injury. He'll have a whole year under his belt and be even better next year![]()
If we are somehow able to swing getting Beal and Lowry without giving up Bam and Jimmy while keeping Oladipo its a start. We'd match up well provided everyone healthy. We'd still need reasonable role & bench players though. But otherwise, no chance against a healthy KD led Nets.
Lowry/??
Beal/Oladipo
Butler/??
Bam/??
Dedmon/??
And this is assuming Oladipo isn't basically done. Which is a big if.
Nobody could beat the Warriors either, but there's a banner hanging in Toronto. You never know how things are going to play out. We just need to get better. Significantly better.
That's my point. The realistic trades we are more likely to be able to make this off season are not going to put us in contention. But we can get better. This is why despite people crying about criticism about Riley, its valid. Its been valid for many years and many of us were not fooled by the bubble run.
Had we gotten better and made valuable changes during last year's off season, this year we probably could make a move or two that would put us back into contention. Or hell, at least make us attractive to FAs.

Saudades.

if we decline options to Gogi, Iggy, and renounce Nunn (while waiting on duncan) how much cap would we have?

Not 100% sure HB, but my gut says it's something close to around $30m.

23 million with Nunn and Robinson. 27.7 w/o Nunn. The cap holds for Nunn and Robinson are both 4.7 mil a piece.

Pardon my ignorance, but does that mean if we pay D Rob 17M a season we still have 27.7 to spend anyway? (Assuming we renounce Nunn)

It depends on when we sign him. We’d need to come to an agreement with an external FA, a verbal agreement with Duncan, and then sign the external FA first then go over the cap to sign Duncan.
That’s my understanding anyway. The timing and order of signings is important.

If you wrote he was 30 I would of believed you.
Didn't realize he is still really young.
That would be a decent risk reward to ponder on

The timing is the key. The issue is our RA don’t care since their goal is to get paid first which is reality. We are a business not a family. So expect Ducan and Nunn to have signed offers day one putting us on the clock.

How is getting Beal realistic with the assets we have? It’s like walking into a car dealership wanting to but a car only to open one’s pockets and lint falls out. We don’t have draft picks and to make matters worse we played like looser. We had no injuries and showed no fight and rightfully got swept. If us fans where disgusted by the teams effort imagine what others players think.

Re: MIAMI HEAT Offseason Thread 2021
If we can retain Duncan and sign FAs using 27.7 that would be huge. Surely Pat and Andy can word him up to hold out until we’ve signed our other dudes.
My eyes would be on Dinwiddie and Richaun Holmes.
We won’t go anywhere until Bam takes 3s so just get Holmes and make Bam and Jimmy take 3 3s each a game.
At least we’d be beasts defensively

Jimmy signed with this team after they missed the playoffs. You’re overplaying this whole make us more attractive to FAs narrative. For better or worse, Jimmy and Bam is the draw. It doesnt matter how the season ended, if guys want to come and play with them, they’re going to do it.

Re: MIAMI HEAT Offseason Thread 2021
We will have 3 days to match any deal Duncan signs. We’ll probably be looking for F/A commitments the moment the clock allows us to in order to maximize our cap space. Right now i have Lowry as the quick commitment favorite because of the Butler connection. Dinwiddie will probably be going on F/A tour between the Knicks, Bulls, and other PG needy teams with cap space. We could probably sign Lowry and McConnell with cap space and go big man shopping with the mid level.

Does that include the $5.2 million for Ryan Anderson left from stretching and waiving his contract and the minimum salary holds for all the empty roster spots?

I believe what was reported was 23 million if we held onto the holds of Nunn and Robinson so assuming that includes Anderson. I got Nunn and Robinson’s cap hold figure from here https://www.spotrac.com/nba/miami-heat/cap/2021/

Re: MIAMI HEAT Offseason Thread 2021
I really don’t believe we will renounce the rights to Nunn.
We either S&T or we’ll use him as Lowry’s backup with a future trade in mind. I think Lowry will be on board to work with us with an earmarked 23 mil in cap space for him. I don’t think the free agency spending will be crazy this year.

I don't think so either. It makes no sense to not extend qualifying offers to both Robinson and Nunn at $4.7 mil each. That's peanuts for rotation players. We're really handcuffed any way we turn though. We're almost locked into not really making any gains.
Lowry is obviously a better player still, but he's 35 years old and on his last legs and will obviously want a multi-year deal. Signing him will likely cost us either Dragic or Nunn or both. So he'd be a modest short term upgrade that will likely weaken our depth even further and tie up our cap for multiple seasons.
I just don't see how we're a much better team next season. We're essentially dumpster diving looking for food that is still edible, but is questionable and not very appetizing.

That would seem to be our conservative 10 before you start adding a few dumpster dive vet minimums. Not sure how much we can give Dipo to rehab. Hope he takes a vet minimum or we can squeeze him into an exception.
