What is everyone's feelings if Bron only signs a two year deal with an opt out next summer? Honestly, if that's what he does...I'd prefer we let him walk...we can't be held hostage not can we have the franchise go through such volatility year in and year out.
I have similar feelings about a flat two year deal... We need long term commitments...we need continuity.

mopper8 wrote:I've had a thought kicking around my head the last 24 hours or so that's kinda coalescing. A lot of us reacted to the McBob signing or the Granger signing or both with concern that this wasn't enough talent to entice Lebron back. And he did say at the end of the season that we need to get better at every position, and he's not wrong. (So far, with Napier, Ennis, Granger, and McRoberts we are arguably on our way to that goal, while getting younger and more athletic too). But between those comments and Riley potentially looking to "top 2010" or whatever, there was a lot of speculation that what was needed was some really splashy signings. And in order for that to happen, we'd need guys to opt out and take pay cuts and what not.
Here's the thing: I'm not convinced the above narrative is entirely correct. it's also been reported that Lebron was miffed about amnestying Mike Miller, and questioning Micky's commitment to winning over dollars. We can debate whether that is fair or not, but honestly that's neither here nor there, the question is whether or not those concerns are real. Because if they are, then maybe Miami lowballing Wade & Bosh is not the best strategy for wooing Lebron. Maybe when he thought we needed to get better, he wasn't talking big names, he was thinking depth, role players, etc.
Spoiler:
LeBron James is spending the Miami Heat's money for them.
Longtime Heat superstar Dwyane Wade is eligible to hit unrestricted free agency this summer, at which point it's assumed he'll stay in Miami. His destination far from a mystery, only one question remains: How much money will he command?
Overpaying aging players with a history of knee problems is normally frowned upon, but the Los Angeles Lakers recently handed the 35-year-old Kobe Bryant a two-year extension worth $48.5 million, setting the market for 30-something shooting guards insanely high.
Naturally, Wade was asked what he planned to do this summer. Would he demand a "Kobe-style" deal, or would he take the Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan route by accepting a substantial pay cut to preserve Miami's cap flexibility?
"D-Wade is getting that Kobe deal," LeBron interjected before Wade could answer, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
At the very least, Riley has tangible evidence to show James when they meet in the next couple of days to discuss the future. He is letting him know the Heat will spend what is required, including top dollar on Bosh, to win another title after two in four years together.
In the big picture, the Granger and McRoberts agreements give Riley room to present James with a couple of different spending options, including the ability to give Bosh a big contract, too.
Riley said he didn't anticipate presenting a plan in which James, Wade and Bosh would take huge pay cuts should they opt out of contracts. He would be open to any ideas they had and suggested that it was the three players who hatched the plan in 2010 to take slightly less money than allowed on maximum deals to create salary space to add Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem.
Lebron is apparently seeking the max, talking about Wade getting a generous deal, is a very pro-player/pro-union figure in the league. Dude definitely wants to win titles but I'm not convinced there aren't other angles to this whole thing. I dunno, just a thought. These are his friends, and the players are basically in a fraternity that pits them against management in a very real way. It's possible that he also wants everybody to get paid, not just himself. Which would explain the opt out but take big deals approach--it gives Miami the full MLE but also allows the Heat to basically reward all the returning players with fair deals.
Yeah, I have maintained that LeBron has been trying to protect his fellow NBA players best interests. If the best player in basketball is NOT getting a max deal, it will undoubtedly set a bad standard for the rest of the league and owners will be smiling all over the place.
Sometimes, we need to step back and realize that LeBron represents the whole NBA not just his team.

I think your selection process has to be based off of one of many factors (ex) :
Idiocy Consistency of idiocy Frequency of posting- make sure that fairy doesnt ditch Length of posts- I can withstand a stupid idea summed in a sentence, but making me read for 2 minutes only to realize your a fool. Different story.
Anyways, lets make it a democracy. I vote LBJ-Italy
If he signs a max two year deal with Heat, the max in 16' will be outta this world because of new tv money.
That's why I think going back to Cleveland NOW is a bad idea, I don't think he'd want to sig a two year deal with the Cavs just to become a FA again. He'd be ran out of town.

I'm OK with him signing a 2 year deal because of a strike and a new CBA looming so, is understandable, but no bs opt out for next summer. ..

in order to retain the rights to all our free agents, we have to carry cap holds for them that are supposed to estimate the amount we will sign them for. So we don't have any salary committed to Lebron, but we do have a 20.2 million cap hold for him. Same with Bosh. Different players have different numbers. Our total is well north of $90M. The way we could clear cap space would be by some combination of actually signing guys to their reduced deals (lowering their cap #) and/or renouncing the rights to certain players (eliminating their cap holds altogether). The downside of renouncing rights, though, is that you cannot then exceed the cap to resign guys, so once you hit the salary cap again, you're stuck offering them only the vet minimum. So that's limiting.
