Yes, the only smart option is to resign Whiteside. You can ask him to take a discount, but he shouldn't. If you don't pay him, good luck in free agency finding anyone of comparable value. We have the inside track on a very good player, but there is no charity. Players expect to be compensated fairly and Whiteside will have other offers on the table.

Got our played tonight by a scrub. I will chalk it up to his knee. I say rest him vs the Sons and play him vs Utah.

Although he should just man the F up an play. But that's the kinda league it is now

Rough night for Hassan. Looked lethargic out there.

Value of Andre Drummond? Isn't he a traditional center who can't shoot free throws? A dinosaur in a guard's league?

http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1421211#start_here

I guess he's worth a lot. Suppose Whiteside's value (after being signed) is half. It's still a lot.

Pistons fans are very high on Drummond, I've seen some say that they think he'll eventually be a better player than Anthony Davis and if that is the case he really is untouchable to them.

Currently he's the best rebounder in the league, IDK what else he really does that is above average though, he's not a particularly good defender either.

Assuredly Drummond is younger than Whiteside, but it's hard to say who is better because defining "better" in the context of playing on different teams is impossible. It is likely that Drummond would face the same challenges as Whiteside were he a Heat player. One thing they have in common though... Drummond's also on the last year of his rookie deal, but he's about to get paid. How much? Wait for it... Max salary: $20,956,974. He's a restricted free agent and if you think he gets one penny less book yourself a flight to 2000.

Ironically there is nothing wrong with what he said.

Heat type players
Deng which we are trying to ship out
UD which is only here out of loyalty
Zo retired
Eddie Jones
Chris Quinn

Non Heat type players

Wade
Lebron
Shaq
JWill
Payton
antoine walker

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you are a Heat type player or not, its the talent that matters.

so you just going to highlight one phrase from the article to say there is nothing wrong with what he said? What about Hassan's style of play is not "Miami Heat"? Is this not the kind of the big Riley would've craved for?

Posting this for Posterity:

I was listening to Skolnick's show for a little bit tonight and he was saying that the team views Hassan like Beasley. That they hold him to a different standard. (shorter leash). He said they will have about 37 million to spend unless they can get rid of Mcbob. He said they want to use that money on Whiteside, Wade and another player. He thinks they'd be worried about giving him too much money, and thinks they will offer him 15, and if someone offers him the max, then goodbye and goodluck.

I listened to that segment too. It was interesting -- especially the part about Bosh/Wade critiquing Whiteside to the media.

Ethan really made it sound like the team/organization are not as hot about Hassan as the fanbase is.

Very strange to compare Hassan's situation to that bust. Beasley isn't even in the same stratosphere as Whiteside. I guess in terms of love from the fans? Aside from that, I see no real comparison being made. Hassan already proved and is already in the record books for the Heat franchise as a hold in such short period of time. I'd be very disappointed if they let him walk over the issue of money when especially the cap is rising regardless.

Well this explains the trade rumors. Offering 15 mil is like trying to sell Mcbob and Granger to Lebron all over again. If there is any truth to this you need to trade him. The better question is who can we target via a trade. Since trading Whiteside does not come with birdrights i wonder what his value would actually be?

Ethan is a hack and terrible beat writer. IMO, he offers no real insight and his agenda is obvious. He clearly has a problem with Hassan, most of his posts on twitter show Hassan asa negative, he RARELY posts positive Whiteside news. Wasn't he a Cavs fan/writer last season? Oh yeah. I called him out on his BS on twitterand have yet to get a response. I stated facts, and used "stats" and he still wont respond. He's an idiot.

I've been saying I don't think we give Hassan the max. Will wait for another team or see how the market dictates it.

Pat will definitely look for some sort of discount, a "we gave you this opportunity" type discount. It won't be a lot, but maybe around the area Skolnick said.

However I don't think Hassan will take it and take the max of whatever team gives it to him, and who can blame him? I think we'd all take the full amount if we suddenly got an 80mil+ plus offer after what he has been through.

Regarding "trade" rumors though, that is definitely B.S. His salary is too small for us to get what we'd want back unless we packaged McBob, Birdman, Deng or something... but for who? That person would also be a rental. That type of deal will only go down if we went on some 10 game losing streak and it looked like this team was in turmoil.

Doubt the team we wanted anything from would benefit from a Whiteside rental as well, and Hassan wouldn't just stay with any team. So it makes no sense.

Hassan isn't on the trade block, but people like Bird, McBob, Deng are.
