I can't believe that's our plan.

I can’t believe it’s the plan either - we rarely know the full plan until after it’s come to fruition.

I’m expecting something to come out of left field at draft time, and then our path will be clearer.

I'm sure our guys know the particulars of our financial situation. Let them chase Kawhi for a day or two, then move on.

A draft move would certainly be a surprise. I'm still in shock we trade a bunch of 2nd rounders for KZ.

They have no FRP's in this years draft, Markkanan as a RFA and LaVine and Young on the final year of their deals and could also flip Vucevic who has 2yrs left on his deal. I can see them targeting Houston or possibly Goldenstate to make a deal for their picks.
It would be really dumb to trade LaVine after they committed to start building around him 4 months ago.

I didn't realize we had that much. I think a deal starting at 20 - 24 mil a year, is more than fair. If he's coming here, he's gotta be willing to play ball. It would be a huge win if we can sign him without giving up any assets.
I can guarantee one of Dame, Beal and Lavine asks out. If we still have Duncan, Precious and Herro we can put a decent offer for a trade if the one of them asks to come to the Heat specifically. Lavine and Beal are on their last years, so if they ask out to just the Heat, we could pull something off.

Having to sign Lowry with cap space handcuffs our spending ability and puts a lot more pressure on the internal development of the youngsters.

Keeping bird rights for Dipo/Nunn/Robinson is important. Given BYC status, we’re not getting anything decent in a S&T - unless someone is desperate enough to give up a rookie contract. So resigning them now and trading them later is a better use of them as assets than just letting them walk. I know many here aren’t happy with paying Nunn $10m+, but that type of deal will be very movable, once we know Dipo is back and reliable.

That's 24 mill while retaining the rights to Nunn/Robinson. You would have renounce rights to Dragic, Iggy and Vic. The Heat would be stupid if they gave assets for him when they can get him for free. Sorry but a broken down Vic ain't worth handing Precious to Raps

Exactly. This is why i put out all our cards to allow us to debate. Is it really worth giving up a young asset for a S&T Lowry? The benefit is access to the MLE and BA but if we are pressed up against the apron we might not be able to use them anyway.

Just happy that I'm not the one who has to navigate these cap rules. Chit is more convoluted than the IRS tax code

Saw a trade rumor between Miami and Orlando. It's a click bait article....so not really link worthy.

Tyler and Precious go to Orlando for Ross and the 8th pick.

Good? Bad? Meh?

I personally wouldn't trade Herro for anything outside a top four pick in this draft, so I'm not too keen on it myself. I wouldn't give up on our two most recent draftees for Ross and the potential of the 8th pick. I don't think there's someone with greater potential than Precious there tbh.

I don't think Riley has any interest in that unless that 8th pick is getting sent out for an impact player they really want. He's not taking on any young talent in this draft unless it's backend developmental roster type players . This organization is doing anything it can to compete for a chip in the next two year window.

absolutely makes no sense. Why are we trading two draft picks for an 8th pick? Does the 8the pick have a can't miss prospect?

This makes perfect sense if we are trying to go for a whale. To say Herro had a bad playoff or 2nd year would be an understatement. Say Portland or the Wizards see Herro as trash (as an example), to them a high draft pick holds more value. To get people to bite you need bait. Say the Cavs want to move up in the draft, other high draft picks will help them do that, Herro honestly might not. So as part of a deal to get Sexton we give the # 8 draft pick and our trash expiring players and a future first round pick for Sexton and Love.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. Add in the 5th pick in a 4 man draft...yikes.

I don't see anyone there that I'm willing to give up our two guys for. The 8th pick has different value each year. This year's project 8th pick doesn't do much for me. I like Moses Moody, but not enough to part with Herro and Precious.

Yes. We all have to align our perspectives to account for Rileys plan. He may have mentioned getting a couple draft picks this year, but I'd expect that to be 2nd rounders. We are going to need the cheap depth when we reshape our roster for win now, expensive players.

This is a co-host of LockedOnCavs.

And this also with a video talking with Sam Amico.

Does mention a Dallas trade of something like... Porzingis for Sexton/Love, says a pick may have to be included, mentions Brunson possibly in there also.

Sexton, Kawhi and Kristaps would be a pretty atomic offseason.

yeah you want second rounders who do not have guarantee contracts. Also they will likely be looking for mature players that will hopefully be more now ready. Late first could possibly be a target even thou the contracts are guaranteed but very low.ImageImage

Was looking at nbadraft.net, and they have Juzang and Mann going late first. I think we should try to get in that range. A good player could be had.

I like several guys, per usual. Teams want to rip you a new one though in return. The value of first rounders has gone through the roof, inexplicably. Rarely do the players pan out as many teams are just poorly run or have bad developmental programs.

Return to Miami Heat
